Up to this point the storied Bond franchise, which began with the classic GoldenEye on the N64, has been a first person experience. EON is played in the third person in the vein of Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid 2. Although there is some sentimental longing due to this fact, the game is all the better for being third person.

A large part of the "Bond experience" is seeing the slick and suave James in action. This game allows that to happen. In this sense it does feel like a playable movie, as some other reviewers have suggested, but don't let that taint your view of this game. It is a game, not some attempt to simply plop you in a stock storyline and have you shoot your way through an easy level just so you can get another long movie sequence explaining some other plot point (Max Payne, I'm looking in your dark direction).
About seventy-five percent of this game consists of on-foot missions. One will have you infiltrate a heavily guarded ancient ruin in Peru while another is set in Moscow and has you disarm a bomb under Red Square. You view Bond from behind (although you can turn around) and have a great selection of weapons and gadgets with which to accomplish your objectives. Movement for on-foot missions is enhanced by Bond's ability to rappel up walls. This vertical element to the game makes it all the more fun.
Another interesting game play aspect that is a first in EON is "Bond Sense." Bond sense allows you to go into a slow motion freeze. You can look around the area you are in and notice certain targets that you'd otherwise miss. For instance, you'd see that you could shoot a chandelier above some enemies to earn you a Bond Moment (a reward for doing something Bond-esque). Bond Sense added a nice second layer to the game forcing you to look a little harder without it getting annoying.
The other twenty-five percent or so of the game is vehicle based. Over the course of your EON experience, you'll drive a Triumph Motorcycle, a Porsche Cayenne Turbo, a Helicopter, a Rally Car, a tank and, of course, the Nano Tank. All of these missions are very well done and it is obvious that there is a solid, if not perfect, racing engine behind these levels. It goes without saying that your vehicles have a variety of Q gadgets and weaponry including missiles, machine guns, smoke screen, flame throwers, and acid slick.
EA put together one of the most famous and best voice acting casts for EON. Stars include: Pierce Brosnan, Willem Dafoe, Heidi Klum, Mya, Shannon Elizabeth among others. The authenticity that is imparted to a game when your villain is Willem Dafoe, much less the rest of the cast, makes this game unique in its ability to draw you in.
EON also has some of the best facial graphics to date and a solid core of environmental and special effects graphics. Explosions are fun to watch, but don't blow you away (ahhhh! a pun!), character movement was good, urban/city areas were very nice, both driving and on foot, and lighting was great.
The replay value of the game is very high due to harder difficulty levels and the Platinum Medal challenges. The multi-player, both co-op and normal, are also great fun. The game itself consists of twenty-seven missions, each varying in length from a few minutes to a half-hour (or however long it takes you).
James Bond: EON is a must buy for any average gamer looking for a nice, but not overwhelming, challenge. It's also great for more dedicated gamers who like going after platinum medals, ala the Star Wars Rogue Squadron series. Add in the fact that this great game is a Bond game, and you have yourself a winner.
