Welcome to the Lunabean Area 51 Walkthrough and Strategy Guide. This guide will get you through the PS2, Xbox, and PC versions of the game. It does not cover multiplayer. I played the game on both the Xbox and the PS2 and I have to say it is superior on the Xbox but holds its own on the PS2.
There isn't a whole lot to know before jumping in. You'll have to go through a training level which will teach you how to jump, crouch, shoot, etc. Pay attention to the help text that pops up the first time you do something. If you want to mess with your controls you can go into the Start Menu and choose "Profile Options" > "Controls". From this menu you can invert your Y-Axis, adjust your sensitivity, and do a few other things. I recommend that you turn "Crouch Toggle On" so that you don't have to hold down the "Crouch" button but can simply tap it to crouch and tap again to stand up. I also recommend you do not turn on "Auto-Switch Weapon". This feature kicks into play when you pick up a weapon. The game will decide if the new weapon is superior or not and will choose what you are currently armed with. I say that you should have control over this and there aren't too many weapons that it is overwhelming.

You'll pick up various weapons as you proceed through the game. As with most First Person Shooters, the Pistol is rarely used, the Shotgun is good for close encounters, the Assault Rifle is good in any situation, and you have a Sniper Rifle. There are some other Alien Weapons that you'll encounter later. There are also two types of grenades: Frag and JB (Jumping Bean). Frag grenades simply explode wherever you toss them. JB grenades take off and seek out the nearest enemy to where you have aimed. They are very useful. In general, I'll let you know about a weapon and its features as you get to it. I have bolded the weapon name the first time you encounter that weapon.
You are equipped with a Scanner. This Scanner is useful for finding documents and secrets, etc. These items go into your Databank or Secrets whereupon after the game is over, you can view the items in your Databank and watch videos in your Secrets for more background on the game, if you care to do that sort of thing. The Scanner is rarely important for the actual progression of the game and if it is, I'll tell you.
As you progress through the game you'll gain the ability to morph into a Mutant or a Human. It was rare that I used the Mutant form. I preferred the Human form and the guide is written as such. If you want to be the Mutant, go nuts. I describe using the Mutant and the various Mutant powers that you will gain. Other than some anecdotal evidence that I've read regarding the use of the Mutant in some of the Boss fights, which I tried and didn't like, I found no advantage to using the Mutant and had much better success with the Human form. As you turn into and then gain Mutant powers, I explain how to refill your Mutagen, etc., so simply look for that area in the walkthrough.
The Green Arrow is very handy in this game. Generally, you'll get a green arrow telling you where you need to go for your next objective and also, it tells you how far away it is. You'll learn to ignore this arrow, but remember, it can be very helpful if you're stuck. In addition, you can view your goal at any time by pressing the "Select" button (PS2) or the "Back" button (Xbox).
Okay, you're ready. Time to start playing!
