Speaking of codes, people are reporting a few code differences between games. If a code provided in this strategy guide isn't working for you, then look at how the code was acquired, and find the right code for your game. It's more fun that way anyway, right?
Pearl collecting and species documentation are very important to the game. Pearls buy you hovercraft add-on's at Mammago's Garage (which are vital to get through the game) and species documentation provides you with credits to buy necessary items. Because of this, it is important that you buy the Pearl and Animal Detectors early on from Ming-Tzu's Shop in the Pedestrian District. If you have these equipped and look at your map, you'll see any and all unobtained Pearls or Animals in the area. Note, however, that it will not detect Pearls or Animals that you left behind in "dungeons" if you are looking at the overall Hillys Map. If you get to the end of the game and you are missing a few of these items and there are no indicators on the Hillys Map (excluding the one over the Black Isle), then go back to the Black Isle, the Factory and the Slaughterhouse and use the detectors here.
Since this walkthrough was written for all versions of the game, the actions are all defined by the action, instead of by the button. It is also very important that you always keep an eye on the icons on the top of your screen. They will tell you what buttons need pressing and they'll often provide clues if you're stuck in an area.
That's all that really needs to be said as the walkthrough is very detailed and should answer any other question you have.
