1. Introduction and Multiplayer
Lunabean Rating: 8.3 |

Welcome to the Lunabean.com Brothers in Arms(TM): Road to Hill 30 Strategy Guide. The guide was written based on the "Difficult" difficulty level and was played on the Xbox, although it will work just as well for the PS2 and PC versions. Before you begin, watch the Tutorial. If you want a crosshair go into Options > Game and add a crosshair. If you want a more authentic experience, don't add the crosshair. You can also change the "Y" axis if it is bothering you.
Situational Awareness
This game features a mode called, "Situational Awareness". In this mode, you can get a bird's eye view of the battlefield including where your men are located, where enemies are located, objectives, and other important information. You can also zoom in on any position, which is especially helpful in locating enemy troops and finding out how many there are.
In this walkthrough I don't tell you when or how to use this feature. I assume that before and during battles you have the sense to pause and check out the Situational Awareness view so that you can see what I'm talking about.
Squad Command System
You can issue several commands to these Teams: Move, Fire, Assault, Fall In, and Fall Out/Take Cover. Get familiar with these commands. "Move" allows you to send a Team/Tank to a certain position where they'll automatically take cover (if there is any) or open fire on any enemies in the area. Do this by placing the "command ring" where you want them to go. "Fire" makes your Team/Tank fire on an enemy position of your choosing, thus suppressing them. Do this by aiming at the enemy until you see a Red Crosshair appear. "Assault" makes your Team/Tank charge the enemy. Do this by getting that Red Crosshair then hitting the "Assault" button which will make the target turn Yellow. Of these three commands you'll be using "Fire" the most in order to suppress enemies. There is also the "Fall In" command which makes your Team/Tank come to you and follow your movements or the "Fall Out" command which makes your Team/Tank take cover where they are.
When you are in control of two Teams at the same time you can switch between them and can use them independently of each other. You'll have two types of teams during the game: Fire Team and Assault Team. The Fire Team is better at long range suppression and the Assault Team is better at close range attacks. You can use either team for either purpose, but keep in mind you'll have more success if you use them correctly. In this Strategy Guide, it is rare that you issue "Assault" orders. Instead you'll more likely have both teams suppressing enemies. If that's the case, try to have your Fire Team fire on the further away enemies while your Assault Team fires on the closer enemies.
Also, you'll need to learn the symbols of these teams. The Fire Team is an upside down "T". The Assault Team is an arrow pointing up. The Tank is a sort of "insert" symbol that you'd use in grammar correction, or you could call it an unfinished triangle pointing up. You get the idea.
Suppression
Much of this game is based on the idea of suppressing enemies then flanking them. Watch the tutorial get to an idea of how this works. When you first see an enemy (or group of enemies) you'll see a red icon above the head of the group. This means that they are active and ready to fire on you. Upon firing on them, or telling one or both of your Teams to fire on them, you'll see the red icon turn to a gray icon. When the icon is gray, it means that the enemy is suppressed, therefore taking cover and much less likely to be firing on you. In other words, you have them pinned down. When your Teams have suppressed an enemy it gives you an opportunity to flank, or go to the side or behind, an enemy and easily pick them off. Often you'll have one team firing on an enemy team and your other team firing on another enemy team. This will give you a chance to move where you need. If you ever need to charge an enemy position, be sure that they are suppressed (gray) before you do so. This way you'll have a better chance of success.

Destroying Tanks
During the game you'll have to destroy enemy tanks from time to time. Sometimes you have the help of a Panzerfaust (German rocket launcher) or a Bazooka. Other times you'll have to do it the old fashioned way and run up behind the enemy tank and wait for an on-screen prompt to "Place explosives...". This is sometimes tricky as the game doesn't want to give you the on-screen prompt in all cases. If you're having this problem, try to get the prompt from the back of the tank first, then try both the back left and back right side of the tank to see if you get the prompt. Also, I had more success with this while the enemy tank wasn't moving, so try to do it when it's stationary. Of course, if you are in command of a Tank, you can simply have your Tank attack the enemy tank and usually your Tank will win.
Cheats and Unlockables
Upon completing each mission you'll unlock various goodies including cheats and extras like photos from D-day etc. To use any cheats you have earned, pause the game and look for the "Cheats" button.
There are three multiplayer modes for the Xbox: split screen (one Xbox), System Link (link up your Xboxes), and XboxLIVE. The PS2 and PC versions also feature the same Multiplayer. Multiplayer basically boils down to this: you are either attacking or defending a position OR you are either finding documents and then running to a certain location or you are defending said documents and preventing them from getting to their destination.

The details are a little trickier. First, get familiar with your HUD. The Timer in the upper left is how much time you have left in the mission. All missions are 10 minutes. The Mission Objectives are to the right of the Timer and show you what you have to blow up or what you are defending OR where you have to go once you obtain the documents. In some cases you may have multiple positions to defend, for example, two AA guns. Also, if you are in a map having both you and the enemy in search of documents, one Yellow Arrow is where you have to go with the documents and one is where the enemy has to go with them.
The Objective Items are things that you need to fulfill the mission, either explosives or documents. If you are attacking then you need to first find the explosives then go to the Mission Objective (an AA Gun or a bridge, etc). As long as you pick up one set of explosives (Objective Items) you have enough to use on multiple targets. In other words, if there are two sets of explosives on the map you only need to find one of them. If you are defending, you can try to prevent the enemy from picking up the explosives by finding the explosives and defending them. When it comes to documents, you first have to find the documents then get to the Yellow Arrow to succeed.
When you pick up explosives you'll see an icon appear on the explosives (Objective Items) noting that the attacker has found the explosives. When you place/set explosives you'll see a timer appear over the Mission Objective noting how long you have until the bomb blows. During that time the defender has a chance to "Disarm" the bomb. If that's the case you'll see the timer pause in the place where it was stopped. If you reset the bomb it will continue from this point on the timer meaning that you don't have to wait for an entire timer if you reset the bomb.
The compass is a bit more complicated than in single player. Yellow Arrows represent Mission Objectives. For example, the location of the two AA Guns you need to destroy or the location of the bridge you need to blow or the place you need to get to once you get the documents. If you have two Yellow Arrows (one will be filled in with black) then that means you have multiple targets (or in special cases, represents where you have to get with the documents and where the enemy has to get with the documents).
Gray arrows represent Objective Items (explosives/documents) that you haven't found. Follow any one (if you have multiple) of the Gray arrows to find what you need to complete the Mission Objectives. Orange Arrows indicate Objective Items that you have found, but then lost when you were killed. The explosives/documents will remain wherever you were killed. Therefore, don't get confused between Gray and Orange arrows...they're both Objective Items, just one is in the unfound state and one is where you last died.
Speaking of dying, you have a set number of Reinforcements. Think of these as extra lives with a special benefit. If you are in the field and you lose your team, you can call in reinforcements. To do this, issue a "Fall In" command, just like you would in the single player campaign. A group of soldiers will join you.
