"Call of Juarez" Game Guide and Walkthrough

Episode I

The game sure doesn't waste any time here. You'll be thrown directly into battle, manning a mounted gattling gun. Aim with your Right Control Stick, fire with RT and zoom in with LT. Just keep shooting enemies until you get the cutscene beginning Episode I.

If the controls feel weird at this point, pause the game and go into "Options >> Controls". From there you can do things like invert the Y-axis.


You are now playing as Billy Candle, disgruntled step child. Take a look at your Compass in the upper right of the screen. Note the Red Dot on the outer rim of the compass. This is the direction you want to go. In this case, follow the path.

When you get to the cliff's edge, push forward to start going down it. However, if you go too fast, you'll lose control and will die at the bottom. When going down cliffs, pull back on the Left Control Stick to control your speed. In this manner, work you way down the hill to Jones' Cabin and enter the yard via the opening in the fence near the shrub.

To sneak by enemies, crouch and move past them. While crouching, you don't make any noise. Keep an eye on the lower right corner of your screen, the Sneak Meter, which at this point shows you as black. That means you are hiding in the shadows.


After the cutscene you'll be tasked with sneaking past Jones to the back of the barn. To do this, crouch (click down on the Left Control Stick) and head along the left side of the yard, keeping the shrubs and crates between you and Jones. The barn you need to get to is in front of you at this point. As you near it, keep an eye on Jones and work your way toward the wagon. Once at the wagon, head to the back of the barn.

At the back of the barn you'll see a flashing red outline of a crate. I wonder what you need to do? Grab the crate behind you with X and move it to the red outline. Drop the crate with either X or RT. Hop up onto the crate with A and then push against the barn wall and hold A. This will make you climb onto the roof. Once on the roof, head forward to the small box and open it for a gun and ammo.

To equip the gun push Up on the D-Pad. To holster the gun, push Down on the D-Pad. To reload your gun, hit Y. To fire your gun, pull RT or LT. To zoom in, click down on the Right Control Stick.


You'll be told that because you have a gun, Jones won't bother you. So, feel free to hop off the roof and make all the noise you want. Part of this noise which you may make includes shooting some bottles to prove your manliness or accuracy. Head past Jones to the barrels. On top of the stacked crates not too far past the barrels you'll see three bottles. Zoom in if you can't see them. Shoot each of the three bottles.

There's nothing left for you to do here, so you'll want to leave the area. To the left of Jones you'll find a narrow path bordered by parallel fences. Use this path to exit the yard and continue along the path.

Watch out! Wolf! Shoot him dead (sorry animal lovers) and then continue along the path until you get a cutscene.

After the cutscene, head forward until you meet up with the Sherrif on the bridge leading to town. You should give up your gun as he asks. To do so, equip your gun (Up on the D-Pad) and then hit the Back button to drop your weapon.

Continue into town, past the hombres and head to the Saloon on the right. Suzy will call down from the balcony. Enter the Saloon and go up the stairs. You'll be denied access to Suzy. Exit the Saloon and Suzy will suggest that you go to the back window. Sounds like a plan.

Head to the left side of the Saloon (if facing the Saloon) and Suzy will call down to you. To get up there, you'll need to locate a rope, or, perhaps, a whip. Head forward to the wagon next to the wall of the Saloon. In the back of that wagon you'll find the Whip. Grab it.

Next, climb up the crates on the wagon (remember to push against a crate and hold A to climb). You'll end up below Suzy's window. Look up to see three flashing red wooden beams. Equip your whip by pressing Up on the D-Pad. Aim at the middle wooden beam and you'll see a whip icon appear on the screen meaning you've aimed correctly. Now, press and hold RT to attach the whip to the beam. While holding RT, use LB to climb up (you'll have to hit it several times to climb). Then, push forward to enter the window.

You'll be presented with a timer and a task to find Suzy's gun. Go to the dresser to the left of her bed and open up the top right drawer. Here is the gun. Grab it.

After the suggestive cutscene, jump out the window. Head forward along the side of the Saloon and, after the guy yells at you from the balcony, take a right, going behind the barn/structure. You'll soon see a broken part of the fence. Jump over it and continue along the path. Note, at this point, you'll be following the red dot on your compass.

You'll soon realize that you are being chased and that you should be moving quickly along the path...no dilly dallying! When you get to the cliff/steep decline, remember to pull back on the Left Control Stick to ease your way down. When you get to the second cliff (this one really is a cliff), take a left and go along the cliff-side path.

You'll soon reach some ledges that you need to climb up (remember to hold A and push against the ledge to climb). You'll next get to a nasty little gap that you have to jump. After falling to my death numerous times, I realized that you have to jump at the last possible moment (you can also look down to see where your feet are to make sure you're at the edge of the gap).

After the jump, keep heading forward and you'll reach a gap and a branch. Aim your whip at the branch (the middle of it) and you'll see a whip icon (if you don't see it, move closer). Hold RT to attach your whip to the branch and then push forward to swing forward. At the end of the swing forward, hit A to jump and you'll land on a lower pathway.

From here on out, it's pretty self explanatory...head along the path, use the branches to cross gaps, jump and climb when you need to. You'll soon get a load point and will be above Crazy Franks' place. Head down to the house and go up to the door.

After he talks to you, try to go into the house and he'll force you to leave, setting you up above the house again. This time, watch his movements. When he's not looking at you, head down the path and crouch, using the shrubs on the right to sneak toward the house. When you're at the side of the house, wait for him to walk away from you. Sneak along the porch and enter the house.

Once inside the house, turn right and grab the ammo box on the crate near the window. Crazy Frank will catch you and you'll need to jump through the window to avoid being shot.

Head along the path to the left, following your compass. You'll soon reach a gap...cross it with your whip on the branch. Follow the compass through the wilderness and you'll soon come upon your home. The level will end.
