Introduction

Welcome to Lunabean's The Da Vinci Code: The Game Walkthrough and Strategy Guide. This guide will walk you through all nine levels of the storyline portion of the game. For a list of all secrets and extra puzzle solutions please look to our PDF guide options.

The Da Vinci Code really only has two components to it, combat and investigation. Let's start with combat.

Combat

If an opponent spots you, you will automatically go into combat mode. This means you will be given two options: Attack or Run. If you run, you need to note that you won't be able to pass through any doors until your opponent loses or forgets about you. With that being said, it's almost always a better option to engage in battle.

Once in attack mode, you must try to land the first punch. If you do, you'll get the opportunity to continue hitting the enemy. However, if the enemy lands the first punch, you'll be put in defensive mode. In defensive mode you will have to hit the buttons as they appear on the screen. The enemy will continue to put you on the defensive until you complete a combination with no mistakes. Once you do successfully complete a defensive combo (or once you've landed the first punch), you'll get the chance to put the enemy on the defensive. When this happens you'll be presented with three options: Attack, push or throw. Nine times out of ten I went with "Attack", as, for me, it was the easiest way to take down the opponent.

Like "Defense", "Attack" will provide you with a combination. Hit all of the buttons to do damage to the opponent. A complete combo will keep you in control of the fight, allowing you to perform another attack combo (most opponents go down with 2 - 3 successful combos). A missed combo will force you to lose control of the fight.

Opt to "Push" the enemy if there's a nearby obstacle, like a table, railing, or even a wall. Push them by following the indicated prompt on your screen (consoles will tell you to push the left control stick in the direction you want to push the enemy). If you successfully push the enemy into an object, you'll get single button prompts which can do a lot of damage.

Finally you can opt to "Throw" your opponent. When you take this option, tap the indicated button fast. If you overpower your opponent you can break free from the entanglement. I'm not a fan of this option, as it really only provides you with a chance to run away.

Keep in mind, the best way to take out an enemy is to do so without the enemy being aware of your presence. To do this, go into "Stealth" mode and sneak up behind the enemy. Follow the on screen instructions for a "Stealth" attack. If you have an object in your hand, or, if you hit the enemy straight on, you'll likely take him down with one hit. Even if he survives the blow to the head, he'll be heavily damaged and will go down easily.

Investigation

Investigating objects is fairly obvious, as objects that can be investigated will bring an "Investigate" or "Examine" prompt to the bottom of the screen when approached. When you do investigate or examine an object, you'll, most likely, be brought into an investigation screen. This allows you to look at the item more closely, pan across the item, and, sometimes, highlight other items. These other items can be objects you must pick up. If that's the case, highlight them and hit the indicated button to pick them up. It's that easy.

The trick to investigating items comes into play when you want to "insert" an item from you inventory into a highlighted object. This, actually, isn't difficult at all, once you understand the trick. Here's an example: Often, when you're investigating things, you'll spot a "Hole". You highlight and "examine" that hole to learn more about it. You learn the hole has a Fleur-de-Lys symbol in it. This tends to mean you can insert the Priory Ring into the hole. However, if you go into your inventory and try to "Use" the Ring on the hole, nothing will happen. This simply means you need to zoom out of the hole's screen and try again. Go back to where you were examining the larger object and simply hover over the hole so the screen reads "Hole" at the top. It is at this point where you must select the object to insert into it. Keep this in mind if you're having trouble inserting objects into other objects.

Visual Database

Your Visual Database is the place where all clues, notes, and histories are kept. If you're stuck on a puzzle, look through the Visual Database. Chances are you'll find a key to the solution inside.

Saving, Health

Your health meter will appear at the top of the screen as you do battle, and is always visible in your inventory. Run out of health meter juice and you'll die. There are many Large and Small Bandages to be found throughout the game, along with the occasional First-Aid Kit. Use these (select from your inventory) when your health is low to keep from dying. If you do die, you'll restart at the last checkpoint (automatically marked by the game).

If you want to save your game, simply go into the Pause Menu and hit "Save". Next time you turn the game back on, hit "Resume" and the game will reload at the last checkpoint.
