Vampires + Old West = Solid Shooter

Things You'll Like

Darkwatch has a good story. You are Jericho Cross, famous train robber in Old West Arizona who robs the wrong train, unleashes the son of Satan, Lazarus, and then is bitten by Lazarus therefore becoming a Vampire. You then discover the secret society, Darkwatch, whose job it is to protect the world from Lazarus. Now you have to help them get Lazarus back.

You can choose to be Good or Evil in the game. Although this karma system is not as nuanced as in some RPGs, by choosing good or evil you'll receive different powers and at the end, fight a different boss. The differences are very slight, for example, the Good Power, Vindicator, kills everybody on the screen with lightning. The Evil Power, Soul Stealer, kills everybody on the screen by taking their souls. One is blue, one is red.

The cutscenes/movies are very well done and help to further the story line rather than being simple eye candy.

Enemies are well made and fun to kill. Ranging from Banshees, to huge globs of fat called, Oozers, to the common lynch monsters, Reapers.

As opposed to many other shooters, the melee attack is rather useless. Not so in Darkwatch. Every weapon has a built-in blade and you can go through much of this game using melee attacks, a very satisfying way to get through the game, I might add.

Weapons are what you'd expect but are nonetheless fun: rifles, dual pistols, rocket launchers, dynamite, etc.

You can replay missions in "Gunslinger" mode to earn special features.

A few missions have driveable vehicles (similar to the Warthog in Halo).

Things You Won't Like

Darkwatch could have been longer.

The game could have used more missions with the vehicle, Coyote.

Multiplayer is lacking, although it is there, you may as well stick to online games you already like playing.

When crouching, you have to hold down the L-Stick, rather than having it toggle. This became annoying.

Even after adjusting the turn sensitivity many times I couldn't come up with a satisfactory sensitivity. I would either be turnign too quickly or too slowly. Aiming was sometimes difficult.
