All of the gameplay elements, like health, active reload, taking cover, etc. are detailed below in "Ashes - 14 Years After E-Day".
You can play through the campaign in two-player co-op mode. This can be done in your home using two controllers in split screen mode. Or, you can host or join a co-op game via Xbox Live or system link. If you would like to switch from single player to co-op in the middle of your campaign, hit the Guide button (Xbox button in the middle of your controller), and invite the friend you'd like to join. If the friend accepts, you'll seamlessly enter into co-op mode.
There are two thing that are only available in multiplayer: the Curb Stomp and Smoke Grenades. The curb stomp is a devastating finishing move. When a player is down and bleeding out, but not quite dead, go up to him and press "X". This will finish him off and, depending on the game type, may give you a bonus. Smoke grenades are used in the same way as regular grenades. They are useful for obscuring your movements and making getaways.
There are three different types of multiplayer games:
This is a good old team vs. team. One team is human, one is locust. The first team to kill the other team wins.
This is essentially a twist on Warzone. Instead of dying when shot, you can revive yourself by rapidly tapping "A". If an opposing player gets to you while you're bleeding out, he can do a finishing move on you. This is the only way to kill a player in this mode. Essentially, it requires a bit more face-to-face time with your opponents and make for a little more of a chaotic battle.
This mode is a little more complicated. Each team has a leader, either Colonel Hoffman or Raam. The goal is to kill the enemy leader. If you kill the leader, you will become leader of your team in the next round. The highest scoring player on the losing team becomes leader of his team for the next round.
In this mode, only the leader can pick up the longshot (sniper rifle) or torque bow. However, once the leader picks up said weapon, he can drop it for his teammates. There is a good deal of strategy involved in this mode and it is quite fun.
