The Shores of Attica
Per usual, this God of War game starts you out in the middle of battle. Run at your enemies and hit any button to get your button commands:
Press "Square" for Light Attacks.
Press "Triangle" for Heavy Attacks.
Press "Circle" for Grab.
Use any of these attacks to eliminate those on the rooftop with you.
Upon clearing the first group you'll be shown a ballista. It is your goal to shoot it...but, first, you must fight off the second wave of enemies. As you fight, you'll get a few new commands:
Hold "Triangle" to Launch enemies (hit them while in the air for combos).
Hold "L" to block.
Approach the glowing point of the ballista and hit "Circle" to interact with it. Follow the on-screen prompts to shoot it (slide back your control stick). Fall into the resulting pit.

Red Orbs: As each enemy falls he'll release Red Orbs to fill your Power Up Meter. As you move through the game you'll be able to upgrade Kratos' Weapons and Magic with the Red Orbs in your Power Up Meter.
You will be alerted when this option first becomes available to you. When this happens, hit "Start", then hold "X" to give up your Red Orbs and earn your power up. After doing this once, it's up to you to go into that "Start" menu and give up your Red Orbs without being prompted. Earn more Red Orbs by taking out enemies with combos. Also, Red Orbs can be found inside items, such as crates and barrels, giving you even more incentive to DESTROY EVERYTHING! |
Fight the three foes, then stand in front of the Health Chest and hold "Circle" to pop it open. Next, approach the twinking bar at the base of the door, then hit "Circle" to grab it. Tap repeatedly to lift it...or not.
Boss Fight: Basilisk, Round 1

When the Basilisk appears you'll immediately be given a new command:
Hold "L" + "R" and move the control stick to evade.
You'll have to use this evasion technique almost immediately to avoid being burned by the Basilisk's fire breath. The Basilisk will always give you warning of his fire attack, as a bit of flame will leak out of his mouth moments before the big blow.
Between fire attacks, move in and hit the Basilisk's teeth with several Light Attacks. This will both do damage and release Green Orbs (health) for you. Continue to watch out for fire attacks, and even his "chomp attack" (he'll wind back a bit before chomping at you), as you slash away.
Repeat this process and, eventually, you'll be told of "Mini-games".
| Mini-games: Mini-games are encountered when fighting bosses or, occasionally, tougher enemies. You can enter a mini-game when you see the "Circle" prompt appear above your enemy's head. As soon as you see it, approach the enemy and hit "Circle" to initiate. Next, hit the remaining buttons as they are shown to you. Successfully hit all of the buttons in the mini-game to do damage. Fail, and you'll have to wait for another mini-game to present itself to try again. |
In this battle you must successfully complete the mini-game to move forward with the battle. Do so, then pick up the glowing pillar to temporarily finish the big guy off.
Carefully make your way along the beach (smash the barriers for orbs), to the log ram. Hold "Circle" to grab the ram, then pull it to the door. Once in position, step away from the ram and step into the light to the left. Save.
Continue left, jump up on the platform, and open the chest to reveal a Gorgon Eye.
| Gorgon Eyes: For every five Gorgon Eyes you collect, your health meter will automatically increase. |
Jump down, then head right to collect from the Red Chest. When all has been collected, use the ram to break down the door.
It should come as no surprise that enemies are waiting on the other side of the door. Fight them off as you make your way up the stairs.
Hop into the water and swim to the opposite side. Eliminate the warriors here (don't forget to block to avoid damage by the Archers), collect from the Green Chest, then turn the Crank.
Turn the Crank all of the way to raise the door on the opposite side (and release a few enemies). Take out the enemies (all three waves), then refocus on the crank. When it's as far as it can go, rush to the open door and slip under it. Note, if you're having trouble just running, try using the "Evade" move to slip under it.
Fall into the large pit and fight the enemies. When all is clear, destroy the wooden structure in the far right corner to access a couple of hidden Red Chests. Next, break open the central structure and climb the ladder. Jump off the ladder (hit "X") on the second level to collect another Gorgon Eye, then continue your way to the top.

Boss Fight: The Persian King
The Persian King isn't too hard to battle. Think of him merely as a larger warrior, and simply hit him with your Blades as you would any other enemy. Look out for his blade and fire attacks (simply roll out of the way with "Evade" when you see them coming), kill others as they come at you, and continue to hack away at the big guy.
Eventually you'll come to a mini-game. Be aware, you'll probably be asked to tap a button here. Complete the mini-game to enter a quick cutscene, then finish off the royal leader. As a reward, you'll receive many Orbs and The Efreet.

The Efreet: This is the first of your Magic abilities. To pull it off, hold down "R", then press "Triangle". Doing so will release the "Demon Fury", an extremely damaging attack.
Note, as with all Magic attacks, you'll need enough Magic in your meter (the blue one) to pull it off, and, you can upgrade via the Red Orbs. |
Try out your new move on the enemies who appear in the room. When all have been eliminated, the doors will open. Enter the room to the right for an M-rated mini-game (you're rewarded with many Red Orbs), and the door to the left for a Save.
Fallen Stronghold
Raise the gate and fight off the soldiers. Knock down their ladder by hitting "Circle". Once you've temporarily cleared the area move over to the ballista, turn it so it faces the Basilisk, then fire. Fight your way right and move through the next door.
Pass the circular lever and climb the ladder. Collect from the Red Chest, then the Stone Chest (where you'll find your first Phoenix Feather).

Return to the lever and turn it until you reach the lower level.
Run forward and you'll find yourself pitted against a Cyclops. Fight the Cyclops as you would any other character. Use your Light and Heavy Blade attacks, mix it up with your magic attacks, and evade his attacks (he'll slam his arms down in front of him). Eventually a "Circle" will appear over the one-eyed monster. Enter into the mini-game and finish him off.
Collect from the various Chests and move through the door. Fight off the archers, Save, collect from the Red Chest and the Stone Chest (Gorgon Eye), then climb the ladder.
Move up the wall (use "X" while moving the control stick to quickly jump). At the top, fight off the numerous enemies (kick down the ladders to aid in this task), avoid those shooting at you from afar, and use your blades to knock down the wooden planks to the right. Pull the lever and ride the lift down.
Move up the stairs and through the door for a quick Basilisk cutscene. Note the body he drops to the ground. Next, take out the Archers and take note of the circular pressure plate and closed gate near them. Clear out the area to the right and locate both the body and a large crate. Grab the large crate and push it over to the aforementioned pressure plate, thus raising the gate (Note, while holding the crate you can kick it by holding "R" then releasing). When this is done, grab the body, carry it through the open door, and place it on the next pressure plate. Move through the next door, then down the hall and Save.
Continue down the hall, grab the Phoenix Feather, and exit outside.
Boss Fight: Basilisk, Round 2
Fight the Basilisk as you did the first time. Hit him with your blades and evade his fire and chomping attacks (if you get caught in a chomp, alternately tap between "L" and "R" to save yourself). Don't forget, you have magic this time around, so be sure to use it. Not only is it damaging, but, while active, it makes you impervious to the Basilisk's fire attack.
It's also possible that you've earned your first blade power up by this point (by collecting enough orbs). If that's the case, feel free to use your new Cyclones of Chaos on him, as they work wonders.
After taking enough of a beating, the big guy will retreat and expose a "Circle". Run up to it and play his mini-game. Note, when you're told to move your control stick in cirlces, do so faster than what you're shown on-screen.
Repeat this process one more time and the Basilisk will return for one more short battle. Fight until you spot the "Circle" above the Basilisk's head, then complete the final mini-game to eliminate the beast once and for all.
The City of Marathon

Break through the wooden planks, then face the Undead Knight (simply block a lot and hit him with your blades). Bust through the next set of planks for a couple of chests, then return to the previous room and move down the narrow passage to the left.
Move forward through the town, eliminating Undead Knights (they hate the Efreet magic) and checking outside buildings for chests as you go. After the quick cutscene, run up to the glowing crate and push it forward through the fog. Guide it to the gate, the lift the gate and enter the next area.
Collect the Goron Eye from the chest behind the rubble to your left, then head forward and battle your first Siren.
You'll have to do some blocking and evading when dealing with Sirens, as they have a strong tail they like to whip around. Their strongest attack, however, is that of their scream. If you find yourself stunned by a scream, simply follow the on-screen prompt and alternately hit "L" and "R" to fall out of it.
The best attack on the Siren is the Cyclone of Chaos ("L" + "Square", if you've earned it). Once you've done enough damage, a mini-game prompt will appear above the lady's head. Engage to take her out.
The Sirens will continue to regenerate. In order to stop them from reaching you, turn the circular lever to close the gate. Once this is done, continue down the path to the right and eliminate the Archers to clear the area of all enemies.
Backtrack past the lever and Siren and move up the stairs to the armored knight. Remove from him his torch and carry it down the path where you battled the Archers. Place the torch in the wagon, then push it through the fog. Watch out for the Archer to your left, then your right (grab the Phoenix Feather here). Eventually the fog will lift and you'll have to do battle with a new enemy, the Sabertooth Tiger.
The Sabertooth's main attack is that of an icy breath that can damage you a bit. Simply block to avoid it, and do battle with the animal as you would any other enemy, then finish him off with the mini-game (I used the Efreet on him 4 or 5 times, then the Cyclone of Chaos).
Head right and destroy the fallen rocks to open up the path. Take out the Archers, then collect from the chests. Climb the building (use the wall opposite the Red Chest) and Save.
Read the tablet next to the Save point to learn about the Shrine of the Fire Steeds. Next, read the inscription in the circle to discover Boreas, The North Wind, is buried beneath. Finally, note the three levers, which you can turn, but automatically return to position. Move down the path.
