"GoW: CoO" (PSP) Game Guide
Introduction
In
God of War: Chains of Chaos you play as the fallen God of War, Kratos, a full ten year before the original
God of War.
During the course of the game, you'll be doing a lot of fighting and puzzle solving (although a bit less than in other
GoW games). Thank goodness you have this Lunabean guide to get you through it!
Controls
Because God of War: Chains of Olympus is a PSP exclusive game, this guide uses specific
PS- buttons. For example, "press your 'Circle' button," or "Hold your
'Square' button". To get a list of your controls go to your "Select"
menu and choose "Options" > "Display Controls".
Upgrading your Health and Magic meter
The green bar is your Health and the blue bar your Magic. Every time you find five
Gorgon Eyes (scattered throughout the game in various Chests) your Health meter will increase. Every time you find five Phoenix Feathers your Magic will increase.
If you follow this guide you will max out both your health and your magic
meters. With that being said, sometimes I found a Phoenix Feather where you may find a Gorgon Eye, and vice versa. However, all such chests are pointed out, so you will max out both meters.
Red, Green, and Blue Orbs
Every time you kill an enemy, break a jar, or open
a treasure chest you'll receive either Red, Green or Blue Orbs. Red
Orbs can be spent on weapon and magic upgrades. Green Orbs refill
your health meter. Blue orbs refill your magic meter.
Treasure Chests
Treasure chests, or simply, Chests, contain either Orbs, Phoenix
Feathers, or Gorgon Eyes. Sometimes you'll see a chest which alternates
between Blue and Green. Open the chest when it's green to get Green
Orbs, when it's blue to get Blue Orbs.
Mini-games
When fighting certain enemies, you'll eventually spot a "Circle" icon appear above their heads. When this happens, get close to the enemy and press "Circle", thus activating a "Mini-game". The term "Mini-game" in God of War is not nearly as fun as it sounds, as all you must do is press a series of buttons as you are prompted to do so.
Although you can kill many of these enemies without going into a Mini-game, some enemies do require it. So, as a general rule, if you see a button sequence, just go
ahead and pull it off. At the very least, you'll be rewarded with more Orbs for doing so.
Weapons and Magic
God of War games are all very battle-intensive, and this one is no exception. There are many fighting styles and you need
to become comfortable performing attacks and combos that you find to
be effective. This guide contains recommendations and you can view
the "Enemies" section below to get a general idea of what works best
for what enemy. As you upgrade your weapons and magic be sure to
check out any new combos that have become availablen by entering your "Start" menu, then hitting "L" or "R" until you pull up your "Moves" menu. Select the weapon/magic of choice to view combos.
Weapons
Blades of Chaos - Your default weapon. Dual-wielded swords attached
to chains on your arms. Used for general purpose attacking.
As you upgrade you'll get more combos and more powerful attacks.
As soon as you earn the first upgrade you'll have access to the "Cyclones of Chaos", which is a great attack that this guide refers to often. So, get your fingers in the "L" + "Square" position, and get ready.
Gauntlet of Zeus - Packs a powerful punch. Generally, I preferred the Blades of Chaos, although the Gauntlet does have it's place. Charge it up and use it to break armor. It also comes in handy during your final, so don't ignore upgrading it.
Magic
The Efreet - A powerful attack that damages those near you. Upgrade to extend the attack.
The Light of Dawn - Allows you to attack enemies from a distance, which can occasionally be very useful. Note, the guide often refers to the "Solar Flare", which is the basic Light of Dawn move, involving the tossing of light balls at enemies.
Charon's Wrath - Earned quite late in the game, but worth the wait. Use it to paralyze and damage your enemy. To do double damage, move in while they are paralyzed and hit them with your weapon of choice.
Enemies
Undead - Your general all-purpose skeleton soldier. They get better,
stronger, and more aggressive as the game goes along. They also come in the forms of Archers, Swordsmen and good ol' skeletons. Use your charged Gauntlet on those with shields to break their shields, then finish them off as you wish.
Boars and Dogs - Kill them however you like.
Griffins and Ravens - In a few different parts of the game you'll be flying on a Griffin, a half-eagle, half-lion. You'll be battling other Griffins. You can use your Blades and your Bane of Typhon against enemy Griffins and Griffin Riders. When you see a "Circle", hit it to attack and rip off their wings. Ravens are flown by the elite riders. Sometimes you'll have to charge them with a dash attack while in the air, using "X".
Satyrs - Half-goat, half-man. Look out for their swords and finish them off as you wish.
Mega Minotaur - Half bull, half man. You'll get a "Circle" if you want to do a finishing sequence on them. Evade their heavy swords and take your time with simple Light and Heavy Attacks. Don't get caught up in a combo.
Cyclops - Just like the Mega Minotaur, you'll want to remain agile while fighting the Cyclops. This means you should avoid getting into combos (although magic is fine). Wait for the 1-2-3 attack, then move in with quick Light Attacks. Finish them off with a Mini-game.
Gorgons - Gorgons have the power to freeze
enemies. If you get frozen, alternate between hitting "L" and "R"
to break out of the stone. If you get hit while frozen, you'll
shatter and die. To avoid being frozen stay out of a Gorgon's gaze by
rolling or attacking. When prompted, do the button sequence to kill them.
Harpies - Annoying flying creatures. Use the Cyclones of Chaos on them to rack up combo points. Otherwise, then "Circle" grab move works beautifully.
Sirens - The singing Sirens will make you go crazy if you don't attack them quickly. If they do affect you, rapidly tap "L" and "R" alternately.
