Introduction
You are Niko Bellic, and you just stepped off a ship from Europe, ready to jump-start your American Dream with your cousin Roman. Welcome to Liberty City.
How this Walkthrough is Organized
This walkthrough is organized by the name of the character whose mission your doing, meaning it's not chronological. To find a particular mission, simply find the name of the character whose mission your doing, like "V" for Vlad, and then locate that mission under his heading.
After the main walkthrough you'll find a checklist for 100% completion.
Following that list is a summary of extras in the game, like Brucie's car wanted list and various activities.
Finally, you'll find a comprehensive Pigeon Guide with detailed locations and pictures of all 200 pigeons and some Stunt Jump resources.
Enjoy!
Controls
To view and/or adjust your controls, simply go into your Start / Pause Menu and select, "Controls". If you're on foot, the controls will display for On Foot. If you're in a vehicle, the controls will display for In Vehicle.
General Gameplay Tips
Doing Missions
You can do any available mission to you at any given time, meaning if you have three different mission icons on the map, it doesn't matter which one you do first or last.
Safehouse
At first, you'll only have one safehouse, which is the house icon on your map. Throughout the game you'll earn other safehouses. Safehouses are the places where you can save (which will also heal you) and change your clothes.
Save and Save Often
There is nothing worse than having a game freeze or turning off your console without saving. Even if you have the autosave feature enabled, get into the habit of saving every couple of missions. Note that you cannot save while on a mission. Also be sure to save in different save slots.
Health
There are several ways to get health in the game. One is by saving. When you wake up, you'll have full health. You may eat hotdogs or nuts from carts, or drink a soda. There are also health packs (health kits) scattered throughout the game, and when on a mission, I have mentioned where they are located. Finally, you can call 911 and have an ambulance come and heal you, although it's very expensive (usually around $1000).
Getting Around
As much fun as it is to jack a car and drive recklessly through the city, the most efficient mode of transportation is the taxi. To get into a taxi as a passenger hold the "Car Jack" button (hold "Y" on the 360). Once inside, you can scroll through any available destinations and even go a waypoint that you set on the map. You can skip the actual drive so that, essentially, the taxi serves as a warp point device.
Navigation System
Your radar will plot for you the path to your objective and/or waypoint. Note that the navigation lines are the quickest "legal" route to your destination, meaning that you may be able to find a faster route, if you're interested.
Use the Start / Pause Menu
This is the repository of all information. From your map to your brief to stats to controls, if you are confused as to where you're going or what you should be doing, use the map and the various helpful items in the Start / Pause menu.
Cell Phone
Your cell phone is your main contact device in the game. Characters will call you to tell you about a mission, a side job, or just to hang out. It is also the repository of all of your text messages.
You can direct-dial on your cell phone, as well, by hitting up twice on the D-Pad. The most convenient feature is dialing 911 to have an ambulance come and heal you, although it'll be pretty expensive.
Wanted Level
You get a wanted level for everything from bumping into a cop car to murdering pedestrians. To get rid of your wanted level, you'll need to outrun the cops, which is represented by the blue/red flashing circle on your radar. In general, it's best to drive fast in one direction. When you've gotten outside of the cops' radar circle, make sure that there aren't any other cop cars coming your way (they are the little flashing dots on your radar). If there is one near you, stop, or go in a direction away from the backup cop car.
Weapons and Jacob
Not terribly far into the game you'll unlock Jacob Little missions. After doing some of them you'll become friends with Jacob and will have the ability to do jobs for him and hang out with him. Keep the "Jacob like" percent above about 75% and you can call him for cheap weapons. This isn't necessary as you'll have plenty of money during the game, but it is nice to know in case you want to use it.
Speaking of weapons, find the weapon that you like. For me, it was the carbine, which I call generically, the "assault rifle". My second favorite weapon was the sniper rifle. Whatever weapon you like to use, always make sure that you have a good deal of ammo for it.
Gearing Up for a Mission
In general, it's good to have full health, body armor, and plenty of ammo before starting a mission.
