Gathering Dumbledore's Army (the DA)
Before embarking on your next journey, you'll learn a new spell, "Protego". "Protego" will protect you from attacks from enemy wands. Once you've mastered it, approach the Noticeboards and give it a look. When this is complete, select the Marauder's Map and move to the "Character" screen. Wow. That's one massive list of tasks.
Included among the tasks are the DA Members you are to round up AND various teacher Mini-Quests. The tasks involving the DA Members can be done in any order. The tasks involving the teachers can also be done in any order. However, if you don't get the teacher tasks done before gathering all of the members, you'll have to come back to them at a later part in the game, as a teacher or two may be sent away. For this reason we have tossed the teacher tasks in with those of the DA.
Also, we're going to move through the tasks based on proximity to current location (roughly). Move down the list in the order you desire. Again, order does not matter except for a couple of hiccups concerning the teacher tasks, which you can easily come back to later.
Ginny Weasley
Open your map and find the "Ginny Weasley" task. Mark it.
Follow the footprints to Ginny Weasley, who is waiting in the Gryffindor Common Room. Ginny asks you to retrieve your invisibility cloak, which is in the boys' dormitory.
Move up the stairs that are behind Ginny and go through the right door at the top. Light the furnace and examine the various baggage for DP. When that's complete, move toward the trunk and hit "Action" to put on your invisibility cloak. Next, highlight "Dolores Umbridge" on your map, and follow the footsteps to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom (take 3rd floor exit and move straight ahead to the classroom).
Once you reach the classroom, you'll find two students (Prefects?) guarding the short staircase leading to Umbridge's private office. To get them out of the way, approach either of the two vases on the left side and break them. When the students repair the vases, head up the stairs and into the office. Move past Umbridge and into the room to the right. Here you will automatically pick up the bottles in question.
Exit out of Umbridge's office and the classroom to be taken back to the boys' dormitory. Approach the trunk and remove the invisibility cloak. Return to the Common Room and speak to Ginny. With that, Ginny will head to the Room of Requirement, bring the total to 5. (Harry, Ron, Hermione, Neville, and Ginny).
Open up your map and take a look at the list of tasks. Notice that Ginny's name still appears. This is because she has another task for you. Highlight her name and make your way back to the Room of Requirement.
Ginny wants to learn Reducto
Let the footprints guide you back to the Room of Requirement. Once inside, approach Ginny and the group will learn a new spell, "Reducto", which breaks object. Follow the onscreen instructions to perform it, and cast it on the three targets. It's that easy.
Check your task list and highlight "Anthony Goldstein".
Anthony Goldstein
Simply follow the footprints all of the way to Anthony, who is in the 5th floor corridor, close to the Clock Tower. There's nothing tricky about reaching him. When you spot him, speak to him.
Anthony will mention two other DAers...Terry and Michael. Look at the Marauder's Map and see that their names are now highlighted. Go for Terry first, as he's fairly close.
Terry Boot
Follow the footprints to the Clock Tower then continue downstairs and out to the Clock Tower Courtyard. In this Courtyard you will find Terry. However, before approaching him, speak to one of the two kids playing "Gobstones". It looks just like marbles. Agree to play a game (if you want).
| Minigame: Gobstones 1 (Jack Stone Rules) First take note of the onscreen instructions on how to place your camera then shoot the Gobstone. (Wii gamers move the camera by holding "C", the camera button, and moving the control stick. Shoot a Marble by holding "B" then flicking the Wii-mote up. Release "B" at the top of your flick.). There are a few different versions of Gobstones as you find the circles throughout Hogwarts. The goal of Gobstones 1 is simply to have one of your Gobstones be closer to the white Gobstone at the end of four turns than that of one of you opponent's Gobstones. The Gobstone with the green glow eminating from it is the one closest to the white one. Note, you must win three times to technically defeat the Champion. |
Once you have completed your first Gobstone experience, find Terry, who is stading near the structure in the middle of the Courtyard. When he's crossed off your list, select "Michael Corner".
Michael Corner
Follow the footprints to Michael Corner, who is on the Stone Bridge on the 1st Floor. Speaking to him will complete the task. Next, select either of the Patil twins.
Patil Twins
Follow the footprints through the door and you'll find the twins. Speak to either one. When the conversation is complete, select either name again from the task list to find where you are suppose to meet the ladies (Divination Class).
Next, all you must do is locate the Ladies up on the 7th Floor, outside of Divination Class, speak to them, then listen to the conversation behind the door. You can do that now if you want. However, it is my suggestion that you go speak with Prof. Pomona Sprout first.
Pomona Sprout: Sprout Teacher Mini-Quest
Highlight "Pomona Sprout" on the task list, then follow the footprints to the Herbology Greenhouse. Prof. Sprout is inside the Greenhouse, to the left of the entrance. Speak with her and Prof. Sprout gives you a task that can only be deciphered by Neville. Neville is in the Room of Requirements.

Since neither the Room of Requirements nor Neville can be marked on your map, highlight either of the Patil twins, OR the Divination Classroom.
Follow the footprints to the 7th floor and move along the corridor. As soon as you see an open hall to your right, turn down it (thus breaking from the footprints). Move until you spot the open archway to the left, but don't go through it. Instead, move to the wall across the way and watch as the door turns to the Room of Requirement. Enter and speak to Neville.
Neville will tell you to go to the boys' dormitory to collect his book. If you haven't completed the Patil Twin task, do so now and meet the ladies outside the door to Divination. Speak to them, then listen to the conversation behind the door. This will send the twins down to the Room of Requirement, bringing the total to 10/28.
Once that is complete, make your way through the Gryffindor Common room and into the boys' dormitory. Neville's book is on the dresser to the left of the open door. Grab it and return to Prof. Sprout with your essays. She will allow you into the Herbology Classroom. If you care to take your O.W.L. now, follow Sprout and speak to her.
| To pass the Herbology O.W.L.s, all you must do is carry the Mandrakes from their broken pots to the new pots. Do so with "Wingardium Leviosa", and try to do it fast. After three rounds you'll get your grade. If you do not achieve an "Outstanding", try again, but move faster. |
Let's continue with teacher quests, as Prof. McGonagall is nearby.
Minerva McGonagall: McGonagall Teacher Mini-Quest
Highlight "Minerva McGonagall" and make your way to her spot along the Transfiguration Courtyard perimeter. McGonagall will tell you to collect a few first-years from the Divination Tower. Highlight "Divination" on your map and head out. Speak to the first-years once you reach them, and they will return to McGonagall. Follow them there.
Speak to Prof. McGonagall again to complete the objective and open up the Transfiguration Classroom. There is no O.W.L. to be taken here.
Let's break from teacher quests and return to the DA list, shall we? Select "Dean Thomas" from the task list.
Dean Thomas
Follow the footprints to Dean, who is a few feet away, in the middle of the Transfiguration Courtyard. Dean will ask that you find the 5 Talking Gargoyles (they look like flying pig statues).
This certainly isn't the easiest of tasks, as the Gargoyles are spread throughout Hogwarts and most are off the beaten path. But, what's a good video game without a bit of a challege?
Below is a list of the Gargoyle locations. When you find one, stand next to it and let the speak to you. To make the process move faster, be sure to take advantage of any secret passages that you've opened behind the Portraits.
1. In the Transfiguration Courtyard with you. Along the side, in the shadow of the building and/or large tree.
2. Along the Viaduct.
3. In the Paved Courtyard, use Reparo to fix the staircase, then move up it. Move along the path to the end (again using "Reparo"), where you'll find the Gargoyle.
4. From Grand Staircase move through the 4th Floor and run down the corridor. Move up the stairs, then step through the archway to your left. Here you will find the Gargoyle.
5. On the staircase that leads to the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom.
Once you've spoken to each of the Gargoyles, return to Dean and let him know. He'll leave for the Room of Requirements.
The closest person to you at this point is Severus Snape, meaning another teacher quest is next on the agenda.
Severus Snape: Snape Teacher Mini-Quest
Select "Severus Snape" from the task list and follow the footprints to the Dungeon, where you will find Snape standing outside the Potions Classroom. Speak to him, then mark your map and follow the footprints to the Library. Upon entering the Library, make your way to the Restricted Section (back area), then to the back left bookshelf. Examine the book here and return to Snape.
Snape will find the essay acceptable and allow you into Potions Class. If you care to take your Potions O.W.L., enter and speak to Snape inside. He will test you in Potions.
| To pass the Potions O.W.L. the goal is to match potion color with cauldron color. Do so by lifting the potion that matches the color of the cauldron with "Wingardium Leviosa" and releasing it over the cauldron. Make as few mistakes as possible to earn your "O" for "Outstanding". |
Since there's only one teacher quest left, let's go ahead and clear it off the list. Select "Filius Flitwick".
Filius Flitwick: Flitwick Teacher Mini-Quest
Follow the footprints to Flickwick, who is next to the library. Speak to him, and, again, you will be put on a mission to find a book. This one can be found in the Great Hall. Mark your map and follow the footprints.
Once in the Great Hall you'll be shown the student studying from the book. Speak to her, then return to Flitwick to complete the task. If you want to take the Charms O.W.L., follow Flitwick into Charms Class, and he will test you on your casting skills.
| To pass the Charms O.W.L. you are to perform the spells as they are called out. This, in and of itself, is not difficult. However, what can be tricky is knowing on what to cast the spells. So, here's the breakdown: Begin by performing "Wingardium Leviosa" on the bench. Next, use "Reducto" on the tree stump. Use "Reparo" on the shattered item on the table. Use "Accio" on the fireplace switch. Use "Depulso" on the chair. Use "Accio" on the fireplace swich again. Use "Incendio" in the wizard plaque. Use "Reducto" again on the tree stump, "Reparo" again on the shattered item, and "Wingardium Leviosa" again on the bench. If you don't earn your "O", try again and cast faster. That's all of the teachers, so let's finish up the DA list. |
Highlight "Zacharias Smith", who is just in the Library, and be on your way.
Zacharias Smith: Helping with Homework
Zacharias won't leave the library until his homework is done, which means you must find the Monster Book of Monsters. No problem. Move into the next room and collect the Monster Book from the last bookshelf on the right side. Bring it to Zacharias.
Next, Zacharias asks for Wiggneweld Potion from the Hospital Wing. Oy. This kid is trouble. Mark the "Hospital Wing" on your map and make your way there.
Upon entering the Hospital Wing you'll be shown the Pink Bottled Potion. Collect it.
Backtrack to Zacharias and speak to him again. He has one last task for you, and that's to find out when Nearly Headless Nick died. Luckily, Nearly Headless Nick appears to immediately give you the answer. Speak to Zach again, and he'll head up to the DA Meeting.
Zacharias Wants to Learn Richtusempra
Make your way up to the Room of Requirements and speak to Zacharias again to learn "Richtusempra" (if you need help getting there, highlight Zacharias again, as his name will remain on the task list until he learns the spell).
Follow the onscreen instructions to perform your newest duelling spell. (Wii gamers, select your opponent, point to Wii-mote up, then flick it so it ends up pointing straight at the TV.)

Angelina Johnson: Trophy Room Trap
Next up, select "Angelina Johnson". Follow the footprints all of the way down the Grand Staircase and down to the Great Hall. Continue to follow the footprints to the chair at the far end (light the candle at the front of the room for a good amount of DP as you go).
Once you reach that chair, you'll find that it's blocking the path to Angelina, who is in the Trophy Room. Use "Wingardium Leviosa" to move the chair (you'll need your friends to help you, so make sure you're not blocking them). Once the chair is out of the way, slip through the door and make your way to Angelina.
Angelina will explain that the statues in the room need to be placed in the correct showcases. The gold statues go in the cases with gold squares at the bases, whereas the silver statues go in the cases with silver squares at the bases. Use "Wingardium Leviosa" to place the statues correctly. Once places, use "Reparo" on the showcases to put them back in order.
Once this is complete, Angelina will join the gang in the Room of Requirement.
Next, select "Hannah Abbott" from the Character List.
Hannah Abbott
Follow the footprints up the stairs, through the Grand Hall, and down the Grand Staircase to Hannah. Hannah is going to require a secret passage to the 7th Floor to get her to the Room of Requirement. You must find that passage.
On the ground floor there are two sets of stairs going up. One is close to the Dungeon door, the other is not. Climb the stairs far from the Dungeon door to the first landing and speak to the astronomer portrait. Once this is done, return to Hannah and speak with her, thus sending her up to the Room of Requirement.
Next, select "Susan Bones".
Susan Bones: Rescue from the Slytherins
Follow the footprints up the stairs, through the Entrance Hall, and outside to the Entrance Courtyard. Continue forward to Susan, who is being harassed by Crabbe and Goyle. These Slytherins need a dewanding. To do this, point your wand at either Slytherin and hit "Action" to get the battle going.
From the beginning, you may care to immediately cast "Protego" to protect yourself from any immediate attacks. From here, point your wand at your victim and cast "Stupefy" followed by "Expelliarmus" (and some more "Expelliarmus"). Repeat until both boys are knocked off their knees.
Note, if you haven't been collecting Discovery Points, your magic may be a bit weak and it may take you a few rounds to knock the boys out. Still, it's an easy battle and it shouldn't be that difficult.
Once you defeat the Slytherins, Ms. Bones will make her way up to the Room of Requirement and join the remaining DA members.
Before selecting your next target, go ahead and approach the students playing Gobstones here and accept their challenge for a game.

The goal is Gobstones is to shoot the most stones out of the circle. However, there is a little more game (or skill) involved than it sounds. If your Gobstone also happens to roll out of the circle during a turn where you shot another stone out of the circle, your opponent will get credit for the stone your shot out. So, be in control of your shots. If no stones are shot out of the circle but you roll out, then no harm, no foul. You'll just start outside the circle on the next turn. Finally, no matter what happens, you and your opponent take turns. Note, you must win three times to technically defeat the Champion. |
Colin Creevey
Select "Colin Creevey" from the Character List and follow the footprints away from the Entrance Courtyard to the Paved Courtyard, where you'll find another version of Gobstones being played. Play for DP, if you so desire.

(Wii gamers move the camera by holding "C", the camera button, and moving the control stick. Shoot a Marble by holding "B" then flicking the Wii-mote up. Release "B" at the top of your flick.). The goal Snake Pit Gobstones is to shoot your Gobstone so its closer to the pit of your competitor. You have four tries. Personally, I had the best luck when I focused on knocking the opponent in the pit. Note, you must win three times to technically defeat the Champion. |
Continue following the footprints to Colin, who is in the corner of the Paved Courtyard. Colin will tell you the Slytherins placed his camera on a high ledge above. It's up to you to get it.
Begin by using "Wingardium Leviosa" to place one of the benches next to the decorative wall extention (or wall shelf) to the left (to the left of the tree growing from beneath the window). Make sure it's completely pressed against the extention, then climb onto the bench (press forward to climb). Next, press yourself against the extension and pull yourself up. From this position, take aim at the tree and cast "Incendio". Your friends will help you. Continue to cast until the tree disappears.
Shimmy along the ledge behind where the tree was, then grab the pipe and climb it to the above ledge. Shimmy across it to the left (collecting one of Fred and George's Hidden Parcel as you go), then climb the next pipe. Step onto the ledge, use "Reparo" on the pipe to the right, then climb it to the next ledge. Shimmy right until you reach the tiny platform, then use "Reparo" to fix the next tiny platform. Shimmy to it, then point your wand at the camera across the way and cast "Wingardium Leviosa" to send it down to your friends ("Accio" works, too).
Backtrack down to the ground and Colin will make his way to the Room of Requirement.
Note, Colin's name will remain on the list, as he wants to learn a new spell. You'll take care of that next time you visit the Room of Requirement.
Lee Jordan (Fred and George Weasley, too)
Highlight Lee's name on the list, then follow the footprints outside and down the path to the boathouse (be sure to light the torches for DP and collect Fred and George's Hidden Parcel along the way).
Run through the Boathouse and out the other side to meet up with Lee and the twins. Speak to any one of them and you'll be given a task.
Return to the Boathouse and climb any of the mini ladders along the sides. Once at the top, use "Wingardium Leviosa" on each of the two boat covers to lift them off of the boats. Once this is complete, the boys will begin to send boxes your way. Use your "Wand/Change Target" button to select a box, then use Wingardium Leviosa to place the box in either of the two boats. Place three boxes in each boat, then replace the covers. When this is complete, return to the ground.
Do as Fred and George say and cast either "Incendio" or "Reducto" on the red box in front of you for a preview of Fred and George's little prank. Lovely.
Go ahead and examine the Boathouse (light the torches, examine the chains in the corner back right corner, free a Seagull, and check out the sleeping Portrait), then move up the large staircase to the Entrance Courtyard, lighting the many torches as you go.
Colin Creevey Wants to Learn Petrificus Totalis
Enter Hogwarts and select "Colin Creevey" again from the list. This time, ignore the footprints and make your way down the stairs to the Astronomer's Portait you opened up for Hannah Abbott. Go through the Portrait for a shortcut to the 7th floor. From here, follow the footprints to the Room of Requirement and speak with Colin inside.
Colin will ask to learn, "Petrificus Totalis", which paralyzes the enemy. Follow the onscreen instructions (as provided by Hermione), and perform the new Duelling move (Wii gamers, point your Wii at the TV and shake the tip left and right). Repeat until the task is complete.
Next, select "Ernie MacMillan" from the list.
Ernie MacMillan
Follow the footprints all of the way out to the Clocktower Courtyard, across the Covered Bridge, past the Stone Circle, and down to Hagrid's Hut. Ernie will be waiting outside. Speak with him.
Ernie asks that you collect 5 Moly Plants and 1 Mandrake Root for Potions Class. No problem. Begin with the Moly Plants, since they are in the area.
Moly Plants:
1. In Hagrid's Pumpkin Patch.
2. At the bottom of the hill that's between Hagrid's Hut and the Stone Circle.
3. At the top of the same hill.
4. Inside the Stone Circle.
5. Move toward the Owlery from the Stone Circle. Look for the last plant near a tree on your right.
With all of the Moly Plants in hand, all you need now is the Mandrake Root, which is in the Herbology Greenhouse. Select "Herbology" from the Locations section of the Map, then follow the footprints there (be aware of any Portraits you can use for shortcuts).
Upon entering the Herbology Greenhouse head right. Move through the door at the end of the long room and the Mandrake Root will be pointed out. Approach it and it will scream. Earmuffs are certainly needed. Grab a pair from the hooks on the right and grab the Root. Finally.
Follow the footprints back to Ernie follow the footprints back to Ernie and he'll make his way to the Room of Requirement.

Luna Lovegood: The Thestrals
Select "Luna Lovegood" from the Character list. Follow the footprints behind Hagrid's to the path through the woods. You'll find Luna at the end.
Luna can't leave until the Thestrals are fed. To do this, you must get the food to the highest point in the clearing (in the dirt patch between stones at the top of the hill). However, this is easier said than done, as the hill is, well, a hill, and the food is packed in round form. This means you must use the various rocks between the clearing and you to function as blocks so the food doesn't roll back down the hill.
With that being said, pick up the food with "Wingarium Leviosa" and guide it above the first rock formation near the base of the hill. Drop the food and watch the rocks catch it. Meet the food and carry it to the next rock formation. Repeat. Continue to work your way up to the clearing at the top. Note, if you get near the top but can't quite get the food into position, you can fairly safely place the food high on the hill as it does flatten out at the top. Just quickly make your way to it and pick it up again before it begins to roll back.

Note, Wii gamers who may be having trouble with this simply focus on doing the "Wingarium Leviosa" maneuver anytime you are close to the food. Don't worry about highlighting it, just move the controls in the right direction and and the food will levitate, which is half the battle when trying to prevent it from rolling back down the hill.
All console gamers who continue having trouble with this, consider collecting more Discovery Points to upgrade your magic. The stronger your magic, the easier it's going to be for you to guide the food. |
From your map select "Cho Chang"

Cho is in the Owlery. Return to the Stone Circle, then continue up the hill to the left, all of the way to the Owlery. Enter and speak with Cho.
Cho's Owl won't come down from the window above. Approach the Owl and it will fly to the window up the stairs. Approach it again and it will fly again. Move up the stairs to the first landing, then follow the onscreen instructions to "Sidle" along the ledge. The Owl will move two more times. Sidle back left, move up the stairs and continue to follow the Owl up and around.
As Cho suggests, use "Reparo" to fix the ledge (stand next to it on the stairs), then Sidle along it to the right. Of course, the Owl will fly away. Continue to follow the Owl to the next level, then fix the pole beneath the Owl with "Reparo". Climb the pole...will that owl just stay in place?!?!?! Fix and climb the next pole, then the third pole. Finally, approach the Owl as he flies to the floor. This will complete the Cho objective.
Cho Wants to Learn Levicorpus
Next, walk over to Cho and speak to her. Doing so will bring forth a lesson on "Levicorpus", another duelling spell. Think of this one as "Wingarium Leviosa" for people. Follow the onscreen instructions to perform the spell. When this is complete, a cutscene will take over the game, thrusting you back into the the Gryffindor Common Room.
