"LEGO Batman" Game Guide

HERO: EPISODE 1 - THE RIDDLER'S REVENGE

1. You Can Bank on Batman

You start out with a tutorial. You can grab enemies with "Z" and punch them with "B" or by flicking your Wii Remote. After defeating four enemies, continue to the right. Locate the grapple point marked by the white circle. Step into it and hit "Z" to grapple up to the upper pathway. Head right and cross the tightrope.

As you approach the corner, you'll be told how to use your Batarang. Hold "B" to enter into Batarang Mode. Anything that you can hit will be highlighted. To toss the Batarang, release "B". Also note that when holding "B" you'll get a small Batman symbol (or an "R" if using Robin) on the screen (on Wii, point the Wii Remote at the screen). Use this to aim at a particular object or enemy. Doing so will cause a small yellow box to appear around the object or enemy, meaning you're locked on.

Continue around the corner and drop down. Defeat the enemies.

Head right, toward the theatre entrance, and you'll be told about the suit swapper. Different suits grant you different abilities. To get up there, go left and use the grapple point to get back up to the upper path. Near one of the metal towers are some pieces. Assemble them into a tightrope and use it to cross over to the suit swapper. Defeat the enemy and then hop into the suit swapper.

You'll end up wearing the Demolition Suit. With this suit on, you can lay bombs with "Z". They detonate after a set period of time, or, if you want to manually detonate them, hold "Z". Note that you can lay as many bombs as you want, say four or five, and then detonate them all at once.

Bombs are able to destroy silver lego pieces. There are several in the area, all containing studs. Go ahead and blast them to get the idea.

If you want to learn how to drive a vehicle, head over to the left, to the car next to the truck spilling toxic waste. Punch the car and then assemble the bricks to form the front of the car. You can get into a vehicle by pressing "C".

When you're done messing around, head right, through the crater in the road and use a bomb to blow up the cement mixing truck in your way.

Continue right, defeat the enemies that drop in, and then bomb the tractor trailer so that its cargo blows up. Jump over the tractor trailer to a new area.

Head right and go up the ramp. You'll soon reach a small town square with trees. Defeat the enemies and then destroy the trees. Assemble the bricks on the left side of the town square (switch to Robin to assemble the pieces) to form a suit swapper, this one for Robin.

Hop in and you'll be wearing the Technology Suit. This allows Robin to operate green tech panels.

Head to the top of the screen to find such a panel, marked by a white circle. Step into the circle and hit "Z". You'll now be in control of a small remote control car. Drive it to the right and then onto the green and yellow striped panel on the ground, in front of the window. Drive it under the window and into the hidden room making sure to run into each of the three switches on the wall, turning them from red to green. When all three switches are activated, the blue doors will open. Press "C" to revert back to Robin.

As Batman, head through the blue doors and bomb the blue gate blocking your progress. Continue into the next area.

Boss Fight: Clayface

Run up to and punch Clayface until two hearts are gone, at which point he'll retreat into the caged area at the top of the screen.

Go up to the left side of the caged area (Clayface is on the other side of the cage from you), and place a bomb. It'll do one heart of damage to him and cause him to go to the right side. Lay another bomb on the right side to do another heart of damage to him, and to blow open the cage.

Clayface is not standing atop a caged vault. Above him are three red targets. Use your Batarang (remember to aim using the small Batman symbol on the screen) to hit each of the three targets which will cause Clayface to be gassed and will end the level.

2. An Icy Reception

While fighting enemies, break the boxes and crates on either side of the room, near the bottom of the screen. Assemble the pieces and you'll form two cannons. Jump onto the platform near a cannon, wait for it to lower under your weight, and it'll cause a pink cotton candy cannon ball to form in the cannon. Jump on it again to fire the pink cotton candy cannon ball. Repeat for the other cannon in order to destroy each of the two trucks, which will cause enemies to stop coming.

Head to the upper left of the area and smash the crates and boxes. Assemble the pieces into a Robin suit swapper, Magnet Suit. This allows Robin to climb on magnetic walls. Jump into the suit swapper so that Robin is wearing the Magnet Suit.

Go to the middle of the room and use your Batarang to target each of the four yellow clasps on the gate (two on each side). Release the Batarang to hit all four clasps (you don't need to hit them all at once, although you should get good at targeting multiple targets). The gate will fall and more enemies will stream out.

Take out the enemies and then use Robin to climb the magnetic wall on the left. Pull the lever at the top as Batman pulls the lever at the bottom (on ground level). If playing solo, you may have to try this several times as Batman needs to pull his lever at the same time as Robin pulls his.

The gate at the base of the large snowman will open. Go up the stairs and go through the opening.

You'll end up in an ice factory. You can't go very far at the beginning, as you are confined to the small catwalk platform. Break every crate/box in the area and then assemble the paddle switch (the name for the large rotating switch) and the Batman suit swapper, Glide Suit.

As Batman, hop into the suit swapper to don the Glide Suit. Go up the paddle switch and push against the green part of it to rotate it, thus lowering the ice sprayer. You can now glide across the gap (toward the top of the screen) by jumping and hitting "A" to glide. Note, you'll want to hold down "A" for a longer glide.

Go ahead and glide across the gap, defeat the enemies, and then assemble the gears on the ground to form a bridge for Robin to cross. Head right a bit and locate the two ice blocks hanging by chains. Target each of the chains (where the chain meets the ice block) with your Batarang and let it loose to cut down each ice block. Assemble the remnants of the ice blocks into a stairway so that you can access the two wheel switches.

Jump onto either wheel switch and your partner will jump onto the other one. This will turn off the ice sprays blocking your path to the right.

Continue right by gliding across the pink goo (or you'll slide off the path) and the purple goo. Fight the enemies and then wait for Robin to catch up to you near the magnetic wall. Switch to Robin (who should still be wearing the Magnet Suit) and climb the wall. Assemble the pieces at the top of the wall to form a grapple point for Batman.

Head right, jumping over the fan, and defeat the enemies (toss your Batarang at the enemy on the upper area at the top of the screen). Head down the stairs on the right and you'll see a curvy magnetic pipe leading up. Use Robin to climb to the top, break the objects and then assemble the bricks to form a crate. Note that this crate is on a checkered floor. You can push objects that are on checkered floors. Do so, pushing the crate off the ledge.

The crate will smash open revealing a few pieces. Assemble them to form a moving blue platform. Hop onto it and ride it across (down) to another small area with a round magnetic archway. Use Robin to climb to the top of the arch and pull the lever there to open the circular door below. Go through.

In this new area, the pink goo mixing part of the factory, defeat the enemies and move right. Glide across the gap and you'll automatically grab onto the gray shimmy bar. Jump up and then locate the paddle switch at the bottom of this area. Push it so that the grapple point on the rail moves over to Robin, still stuck back to the left. Wait for him to grapple onto it and then push the paddle switch back the opposite direction in order to bring Robin to you.

To the right is an orange ramp that you can't get up. Near the ramp is a silver wheel switch. Jump onto it to cause the ramp to turn into stairs, thus allowing Robin to make it up. At the top, Robin will automatically jump onto the wheel switch there so that you can also get up.

Now back together, head right, jumping across the blue platter platforms. Take out the enemies and then slide down the orange ramp to the right. Defeat the enemies and then use "C" to hop into the ice spraying gun. Hold the "Punch Button" to spray ice causing the plugs on both pink goo spigots to break. The vats below will fill with pink goo and will freeze. Continue to spray the now filled vats so that the pink goo freezes.

Get off the ice spraying machine and head right then up. Jump to each pink goo vat in order to continue to the top of the screen. Once there, have Robin climb the magnetic wall and pull the lever to raise the grapple point. As Batman, grapple up and hop up to this upper area and wait for Robin to join you.

On the right are two platform switches. Jump onto either one and wait for your partner to do the same. When they both lower, the ice spray blocking the circular doorway will turn off. Proceed through the doorway.

Boss Fight: Mr. Freeze

Attack the enemies first, and then attempt to get behind Mr. Freeze to punch him. If your having trouble with this, while you're being attacked by him, quickly switch to your other character and punch his back. If you get frozen, simply move your control stick until you bust out. After hitting him in the back two times, thus doing two hearts of damage, he'll retreat to the upper balcony and turn on a fan.

Doing this will make the bricks in the middle of the area able to be assembled. Do so to make a cannon. Jump on the platform switch to create the pink cannon ball (you may have to jump on it twice), and then jump on it again to shoot the cannon ball, thus destroying the fan. You'll also note that each of the pink goo vats on either side of the room have filled up and revealed a green platform.

Use Robin to climb the magnetic wall up to either vat, jump across using the green platform, and then pull the lever. Repeat for the other vat. (If you don't have the Magnet Suit on, use the suit swapper at the bottom left of this area.)

This will create two piles of brown bricks, on each of the two checkered floors. Assemble the pieces into wheeled carts and first push the left cart and then the right cart forward. This will cause an ice block to drop onto Mr. Freeze, doing two hearts of damage, and will also make him jump back down to the ground level.

Punch him in the back two more times, just as you did at the beginning of this fight, to defeat Mr. Freeze and end the level.

3. Two-Face Chase

You'll be in the Batmobile in a fairly confined space. You can shoot with your "Punch Button" and you can fire your tow cable with your "Assemble Button". You can drive around on Robin's motorcycle if you wish.

Chase after the green armored car pictured at the top of the screen. Shoot it until it flips over. At that point, it'll have blue arrows on it meaning that you need to use your tow cable on it. Your tow cable fires from the back of the Batmobile, so position it with that in mind.

Once you have it attached, drag it to the top of the screen and into the Bat Signal on the ground. A helicopter will take it away.

A new area will be open to your right. Head that way and you'll be tasked with chasing down three armored cars, each going in a different direction. To get to the Bat Signal where you need to drag each of these armored cars, go to the end of the road at the top of the screen and then go right, jumping the ramp of the bridge. You'll soon see it. There is nothing new here, just hunt down each of the three armored cars and drab them to the Bat Signal.

When you've towed all three armored cars to the Bat Signal, head right again and this time, you'll need to chase down Two-Face's armored car. Due to its maneuverability, I recommend that you use Robin's motorcycle to shoot the armored car and then the Batmobile to drag it. The Bat signal is all the way to the right of this area and you'll need to shoot him and drag him three times to defeat him.

4. A Poisonous Appointment

Destroy all of the plants in the lower middle garden and assemble the bricks into a bulldozer. Hop into the bull dozer and raze everything in the area (you can also build another bulldozer by destroying the plants in the upper garden, to the right of the pool, and then assembling the pieces onto the nearby broken bulldozer). Make sure that you run over and destroy the fountain to the right. Underneath, assemble the pieces into a suit swapper, Sonic Suit.

The Sonic Suit allows you to shatter glass. How convenient. Head right and use your Sonic Suit (hold the "Assemble Button") to break through the glass door. Go through.

Now inside, head right and locate the three green glowing tubes feeding the plants blocking your path. Destroy each of the glass containers on the wall to kill the plants and proceed right.

You'll soon see three more green glowing tubes, one of which leads into a greenhouse. Use the Sonic Suit to break through the greenhouse glass and then destroy the glass container on the wall. Locate the other two glass containers to the right and destroy them to lower the plants blocking the way to the small back area. Destroy everything in this small back area and assemble the pieces into a Robin suit swapper, Attract Suit.

The Attract Suit allows Robin to suck up yellow, red, and green pieces and then deposit them into an Attracto Canister to make a special, contextual item. These pieces are scattered about after you destroy plants and other objects. You can see how many pieces Robin has by looking at his back. To use it, press and hold the "Assemble Button" and then aim Robins symbol at what you want to suck up.

Continue right, breaking anything that you see and sucking up pieces. Once you have 25 pieces, locate the "Little Shop of Horrors" monster plant at the right of the area. Nearby is an Attracto Canister. Deposit your pieces to create a bomb which the monster plant will eat, thus destroying the plant and opening the door. Go through. (Note, there is another Attracto Canister in the area where you began the mission, but you can't access it right now due to some toxic green sludge.)

You'll end up in an underground cave with a tank of water blocking you from going right. Target the blue box above with your Batarang to lower a ladder and climb up the ledge. Cross to the right and hop down on the other side. Destroy the green containers and assemble the blocks to create a red shimmy bar and a new suit swapper, Heat Suit.

The Heat Suit allows you to go through flames and very hot places, like the area to the right. Before you go there, however, jump up the shimmy bars and grab the three blue studs in the alcove. Head right by jumping on the green platform when it's closed.

You'll now be on a vertical series of leaves. Note that they are bouncy leaves, that is, if you stand on the tip of them, you start to bounce. To jump high, hold down your "Jump Button" on these bouncy parts of the leaves. Use this to your advantage to get the studs above, and then jump on the next green platform when it's closed, jumping from it to the lower area to the right.

Continue right and you'll see a very hot steam platform, indicated by its redness. Assemble the pieces on this platform to create a tight rope. Use it to continue right and go through the door on the right.

You'll now be in Poison Ivy's greenhouse lab. Fight the enemies who jump in until things are quiet and then note the Attracto Canister in the back right. You'll need 25 blocks in order to operate it and unless you've been sucking up pieces with Robin along the way, you probably don't have them. Lucky for you, there are 25 blocks in the room. Go about smashing everything in the lab: shelves, microscopes, benches, cabinets, etc. Suck up the various pieces until you have 25 (note, the pieces left on the table and on the back shelves can't be sucked up...suck on those pieces on the ground).

Deposit your 25 pieces into the Attracto Canister which will create and then bust open the door on the right for you. Go through.

You'll end up in a room with a river of toxic green sludge. Break open all of the cabinets at the top of the pathway that you are on and assemble the blocks into three flowers. Each of these flowers is a platform switch. Jump onto each one to raise a platform in the green sludge. Jump across the platforms.

On the far side, destroy the two topiaries (ornamental trees) and assemble the pieces into a paddle switch. Rotate it to open the door. Go through.

Boss Fight: Poison Ivy

The first thing that you need to do is destroy the three monster plants. As you fight off enemies, wait for a plant to spit out some blocks. Assemble the blocks into a bomb and it'll blow up the left plant. Wait for another set of pieces to be spewed out and assemble them into a bomb to destroy the second plant. At this point, Poison Ivy comes out and fights you, however, there is nothing you can do with her, so switch characters (and let the other character fecklessly fight her), while you wait for yet another set of pieces to be spewed out by the final plant. Assemble them to destroy it.

After the three plants are destroyed, Poison Ivy becomes vulnerable and you'll see that she has four hearts of health. Punch her until you defeat her (remember to switch characters so that you can hit her from behind).

5. The Face-Off

You'll start out on a bridge. Head right and take out enemies. When you get to the security gate, destroy the large wooden box to the right of the gate. This will reveal many steel bars. Assemble them into the framework of a vehicle security scanner. Go to the left side of the gate and destroy the blue phone box. Assemble the blocks into a small wheeled cart (the bomb detector for the underside of the vehicle scanner). This will make both levers (on each side) active. Pull either one and wait for your partner to do the same, in order to lower the black/yellow security pylons.

Head left, back towards where you started and hop into the armored car. Drive it into the metal framework of the security scanner that you built. After the scan the gate will open. Drive through.

On the other side, hop back out of the vehicle, take out enemies and then destroy everything near the elevator in the upper right of the bridge. Assemble the pieces into a Glide Suit swapper and hop in.

Now wearing the Glide Suit, step onto the elevator/lift. Switch to Robin and rotate the paddle switch just to the left to raise the lift. At the top, switch back to Batman and glide across the gap to the right.

Here you'll find a lever guarded by a square laser fence. Above the laser fence is a red and yellow target. Target it with you Batarang and destroy it which will eliminate the lasers. Pull the now-accessible lever to raise a bridge for Robin, and more importantly, the armored car to cross.

Head back to the left and hop into the armored car. Drive it onto the large blue plate in front of the security gate. The plate will sink down and the gate will lower. Go through.

Fight the enemies in this area outside the "FB" bank, but don't try to go near the entrance of the bank or you'll be zapped by lasers. Instead, hop onto one of the motorcycles left behind by an enemy, and drive it onto the red and yellow "$" plate on the ground. This will destroy the grab box near it. Assemble the pieces into a Magnet Suit swapper. Hop in and put it on.

Head all the way to the left of this area and you'll see a magnetic wall. Climb up, pull the lever, and wait for Batman to join you. Switch to Batman and glide to the right, where you'll automatically grab onto the shimmy bar protruding from the wall. Shimmy around to the right side of the bar and then jump up, to grab the next higher bar. Again, work your way around to the right and then jump up to the bar attached to the ledge of the balcony. Jump up and over the railing of the balcony so that you land on this upper level.

Head to the top of the screen to find a levered platform with some gears (like a window washing platform). Destroy everything in front of it to reveal some blocks. Build the blocks into a tightrope so that Robin can join you. When he does, step onto the window washing platform and destroy the blocks on it. Assemble them into a lever. There are now two levers on the platform. Pull one while your partner pulls the other.

You'll be taken up and will see a red grate in the side of the building. Break through it (I tossed the Batarang at it, although I'm sure you could punch it) and hop through the opening.

Boss Fight: Two-Face

You'll now have to fight Two-Face in this toxic green sludge filled room.

Two-Face has ten hearts of health. Run up to him right at the start and punch him until two hearts are gone. He'll retreat to the back.

Head to the left and destroy the three purple-topped display cases. Assemble the pieces into an Attract Suit swapper. Jump into it as Robin. You need 25 pieces.

Jump to the right, to the island (looks like a security desk area), and destroy everything. Suck up any pieces left behind. Continue this process of punching everything you see and then sucking up any pieces left behind as you work your way right, from platform to platform. When you get near the Attracto Canister, be sure to destroy the desk near it for the final pieces you'll need.

Deposit your pieces and the Attracto Canister will build you an air boat. Hop into it as either character and drive it to the steps where Two-Face is shooting at you. Jump off and punch Two-Face until two more hearts comes off. He'll retreat again.

If your partner has yet to join you, you'll need to hop back into the air boat and drive around to find him. When you do, pull up next to him and he'll automatically hop in. Go back to where you were.

Assemble the blue and gray pieces to make three platforms for you to jump forward across. Do so and fight the enemies.

In this area, you'll see a vault door at the back and lever situated on either side. As Batman, head up the stairs on the right, past the first lever, and glide across to the left side lever. Pull it and wait for Robin to pull the right side switch. When both are pulled together, the vault door will open. Go through.

Holy laser tunnel, Batman! There are four blue panels in the floor and green lasers that come your way very quickly. You need to step onto all four blue panels, turning them to green, in order to open the door at the end. You can step on any part of the floor (the gray area), so just run around to each of the four panels and jump to avoid the lasers. Go through the door at the end.

You'll end up in a circular vault. Take out the enemies and punch Two-Face until he has no hearts left...or so you think. He actually has another set of gray hearts. He'll retreat again once his red hearts are gone.

Destroy the two gold bar containers (the two left most ones) by Batarang targeting or punching the red padlock on each case (one of these cases may already be exposed, so just destroy the gold bars). Assemble the pieces to create a sort of gold shield, which Two-Face will shoot, leaving behind red blocks. Assemble the pieces to form two more padlocks, one for each of the two remaining gold bar containers. Again assemble the pieces into a gold shield and Two-Face will shoot again. His shot will be deflected back at him and he'll be defeated (although he's still up on the left side of the balcony).

Boss Fight: The Riddler

However, you're fight is not yet complete. The Riddler decides to drop in.

He has nine hearts. Punch him normally to take off the first three. He'll retreat and you'll need to take out a wave of enemies, after which, he'll drop in again. Punch him repeatedly again until three more hearts are gone. He'll retreat and send out a new wave of enemies.

After you've defeated the enemies, The Riddler will take control of Two-Face and Two-Face will attack. Punch Two-Face to break the green electrical connection to The Riddler (try to attack him from the back by quickly switching characters), which will cause The Riddler to drop back in. Punch him to take off one more heart of health, he'll retreat and start the process over. Repeat two more times to defeat The Riddler.
