LEGO Star Wars is shaping up to be the sleeper hit of 2005. I don't know why, seeing as it combines two of the best selling products in the past 30 years. Still, for some reason, it has gone under the radar of many people. LEGO Star Wars is just that, a video game that combines LEGO characters, environments, and vehicles with all the lore of Star Wars. It is a perfect game for kids and adults. In fact, since it has one of the easiest multiplayer features, a second player can jump in or out of the game at any point, it is the perfect game for parents and kids to play together.
In the game you'll play many different Star Wars characters from the first three Episodes. You'll visit many classic planets and play through many classic battles at such locales as Theed Palace, Geonosis, Kamino, etc. At any one time you have at least two characters on the screen: you and a computer or you and a partner. You can switch between these characters at any time by "Tagging" them. You need to occasionally do this as certain characters have certain skills that you'll need to utilize. On some levels you'll have up to six characters in your party and can switch between any of them that you choose.
The game is fairly basic, having you follow paths, solving puzzles, and collecting Studs (money) and hidden LEGO Canisters. The brilliance of this game shines through in the amazing graphics and the wonderful way in which Eidos made the LEGO characters come to life. I can't tell you how much enjoyment I got out of seeing two of my favorite things being merged so well. Seeing LEGO Jango Fett, LEGO Jar-Jar, LEGO Obi-Wan, LEGO Amidala, and especially, LEGO Chewy, made me smile all day long.
There is something magical about this game and even though it may lack on length it fully makes up for it by being one of the best games for kids (and adults) in some time!
