Head forward and slow time with Mist. Slash back the purple cannon balls at each of the two cannons to destroy them.

Go through the doors and you'll see a Lockjaw. You can't do anything with it right now, so head right along the path, cross the icy part quickly as it'll crumble and then melt the ice boulder blocking the door on the right. Go through the door.

You'll be in a large room with a large set of scales. On the right side of the scales are two ice boulders. Use the torches to draw a line to them to melt them. The scales will rise up on the right and a platform will raise on the left wall.

Locate the two saplings at the end of the path (two are saplings and one is bloomed into a snow tree). "Bite" and carry the two saplings onto the right side of the scales. Once they're on it, Bloom them. The saplings will grow into snow trees and the scales will be balanced. This will result in the platform on the left wall being complete.

Use Galestorm on the huge ice ball to roll it along the left platform so that it comes to rest on top of the floor switch, thus opening the doors for you.

Go through the doors to find an Exorcism Arrow. You know what to do. Grab it and take it back to the Lockjaw to open it. Head through the now open gate and melt the ice boulder. A power spring is created! Draw a line up and ride the power spring.

2F

Jump off to the ice platform and run around the path to the other side. Here you'll find a cat statue (up and to the right). Draw a curvy line from it, down the wall, so that you can climb up the wall and then jump left to the next pathway.

3F

Egad! More cannons and some spinning gears! This area is very annoying because if you fall, you'll have to go back down to the spring and start again (bomb the cracked wall to get back down to the spring). If all goes well, you'll simply need to slow time, use the spinning gear platforms, and keep an eye out for purple projectiles heading your way. Be patient with the spinning platforms. You'll want to slow time just as they're coming level. Also keep in mind that you can use Mist to slow time again, so that you use it consecutively.

4F

When you get to the top, step on the floor switch to permanently stop the spinning gears behind you. Head along the path and through the Golden Gate. Save at the Origin Mirror.

Go through the door to the left of the origin mirror. You'll end up outside on a snowy path. Head up the path, use Mist to get by the two flaming platform spiders and then continue up the ledge and then back down.

3F

Technically, you'll be back on 3F here. You'll encounter and will have to fight the Great Tengu. Just use Mist to slow time and attack him. Once he's defeated, go forward and you'll find the Blizzard Machine. To figure out how to stop it, bomb the cracked wall on the right. Enter the cavern it reveals, deal with the cursed tree, and then use Galestorm to blow away the leaves covering the markings on the ground.

You'll get a good look at those markings and note that the markings on the circles go: Up, Right, Left.

Go back to the Blizzard Machine and note that it operates like a slot machine. The little lever on the left can be Slashed, which will stop the circles. Also note that the "eye" on each of the spinning circles correlates to the marking on the stone drawing inside the cavern. With all of that in mind, slow time and wait for the first circle's "eye" to be pointed up (at the top of the circle). When it is, slash the lever to make it stop there. Repeat this for the other two circles, making sure that the second "eye" points right, and that the third "eye" points left.

With the three aligned properly, the "heart" of the blizzard machine will fly out to the sky, thus revealing a constellation. Paint in the five missing stars and you'll meet Itegami, the bull god, and god of ice. He grants you the Blizzard Brush Stroke (yay! all 13) and gives you the Solar Flare weapon.

To use Blizzard, simply draw a line from an ice pillar (ice stalagmite) to whatever you want to freeze. Doing this, you can freeze the flaming spider platforms. Do so to get out of this area and then backtrack all the way to the origin mirror.

4F

Back out at the origin mirror, fight the wheel and then head north to the flaming spider platforms. Freeze it so you can jump up to the bridge.

5F

Cross over the bridge and follow the path, using the spider platform to clear the small gap. You'll soon see a large gap between you and a cat statue. Use the torch to melt the ice boulder next to the cat statue. This reveals a Blossom; use it to get over to the cat statue. Draw a line up and climb the wall to the next platform up. Use Blizzard on the spider and jump to it. Use Blizzard on the next highest spider, knowing that you can use the current frozen platform as your source of ice. Jump from that second spider the platform on the wall.

Head up one more level using yet another spider and then go through the door.

6F

You'll end up in room with lots of spinning gears. Use Mist to slow time several times in a row so that you can get to the platform with the treasure chest containing the Wawku Shrine Map. Before leaving this platform, melt the ice boulder on the door that you're heading to using the torch that is near you. Jump one more gear and go through the door.

Here you'll find some spinning platforms and some flaming spinning platorms. Slow time for the first two and the freeze the third platform to get by. In the next room, you'll see some sparkling ice crystals floating up in the passageway. Use the ice pillar at the far end to freeze the ice particles. You can sort of paint them in, as if you were painting a bridge...just make sure you start your drawing at an ice pillar. Crossover the platforms which you created.

You'll end up outside. Again, paint in the ice crystals to clear the gap. Deal with or run past the cursed trees as you make your way up the path. Go through the door at the top.

In this passageway are a bunch of flame jets coming up from the floor. Use Galestorm to blow them out and be aware that there is a cannon hanging from the ceiling near the end. Deal with it as well.

Head through the next transistion room and in the next passageway, you'll have to deal with ice floors, falling icicles, and a cannon at the end. Run forward to the stone section of floor and deal with the cannon. Proceed on and go through the Golden Gate. Save at the Origin Mirror. Open the two ice chests and proceed forward through the gate.

Boss Fight - Nechku - Silver Mechanical Owl

What the? Shiranui is now here, in the present? Somebody call Marty McFly!

Shiranui will fight along side of you, but she just does her own thing. What you need to do is Slash back the purple orbs and the icicles that Nechku throws at you. After a few of these parries, Nechku will become stunned. Run up to him and attack away (I was equipped with Resurrection Beads and Thunder Edge as my secondary...I just don't like Solar Flare very much). I also used a few bombs while he was stunned to do a little extra damage. You should be able to take about half of his health down.

Repeat this process and the battle will soon be over, most likely more quickly than you thought because Shiranui will do some major damage to him as well.

After the battle, watch the long cutscene with Oki. When play resumes, talk to Oki and he mentions a piece of the owl that flew off during the battle. It's a small gear that's on the side of the battle area. Go over and grab it. Bring it back to Oki. Talk to him and the entire battle area will drop down...it's an elevator of sorts.

4F

Cross the bridge and you should recognize where you are...near the good ol' Origin Mirror that you used earlier. The door in front of you, the one that has the circle indentation, is now able to be opened due to the little gear that you picked up. Go through the door and through the Golden Gate.

Go through the next door and you'll be outside. There are four cannons (that you can use) on your side, a chasm, and then five enemy cannons on the other side. Time for some artillery! Two of the four cannons are stationary and two are rotating. Use the torches to fire the two stationary cannons first. Next, fire the two rotating cannons by lighting them when they are 1/4 of a turn away from shooting across the chasm. If you did it right, the cannon will no longer rotate and will become stationary.

With all four cannons fired, you'll notice that there is still one enemy cannon that needs to be dealt with. Head to the edge of the chasm and use Blizzard to create ice platforms across the chasm (just draw a straight line from the ice pillar on the other side to you). Jump out onto the first platform you created and then slow time with Mist. Wait to see a projectile coming your way and then Slash it back at the cannon.

Destroying this final cannon will break the seal on the door. Jump across the rest of the chasm (you may need to paint in a few more ice platforms) and fight the Great Tengu. When he's defeated, locate the ice boulder to the left of the door. Melt it and it'll turn into an ice ball. Use Galestorm to roll the ball through the door and into the room with the red hot gears.

You can use this ice ball as your source of ice for Blizzard to temporarily freeze the red hot gears. Go ahead and do so, but don't head for the door (it's sealed by a Lockjaw). Instead head for the platform in the NW of the room. When you reach it, bomb the crack in the floor of the platform to find an Exorcism Arrow. Grab it and then freeze gears again so that you can get through the Lockjaw door. (You may also want to go to the flaming treasure chest in the SE of the room for some Tassels.)

In this next room you'll find a merchnat, a couple of frozen chests, and a Golden Gate. Be sure to stock up on Holy Bones (I have 40 Holy Bone S) via the merchant and if you have the Fireburst secret brush stroke, use it to melt the chests (nothing great in them).

When you're all geared up, head through the Golden Gate and up the stairs. Talk to Oki and tell him that you'll fight with him. The elevator will rise up.

Boss Fight - Nechku and Lechku - Silver and Gold Mechanical Owls

These two owls will be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at you. Lucky for you, you have a lot of elements available to you: Lightning, Fire (on the wall) and Ice (on the wall).

The owls will attack you by throwing various things at you. All you need to do is counter them. Slash the purple orbs, the icicles, and the brown buds that pops out of their heads. If you see a bomb over an owl's head or being thrown at you, use Inferno to draw line of fire to it. If you see a sword raised up out of their heads, use lighting on it. All of these actions will help to stun them. If you see a Bud, Bloom it.

Once you have one of them stunned, Oki will come over to you and tell you to shoot him at the stunned owl. He'll turn into a bow and arrow. Hold down the "Bite" button to pull him back and release it to fire him. He'll end up on the owl. Note that the owl is now black and white. I recommend that you Slash the owl, which will do a small chunk of damage, and will also cause him to crash to the ground. Slash him again while he's on the ground. This is all you can get in on him at any point. He'll regain his composure and you can then repeat the process. Keep this up for both owls until they are defeated.

Note, you may find it to your advantage to use an Infinity Stone. Also, if you see either owl start to spin, it's about ready to swoop down and attack you. Simply double jump randomly around to avoid that attack.

You'll earn a Sun Fragment.

Ark of Yamato

Main Story Walkthrough

Head up the rainbow leading to the Ark (it's in Ezofuji in case you forgot). After a loooong cutscene involving Issun and Waka, you'll finally be inside the ark.

Talk to Marco, who serves a merchant. He's there on the left when you enter. Stock up on Vengeance Slips and/or Holy Bones. If you haven't yet, and want them, you can purchase the Tundra Beads, the most powerful bead weapon. Also, if you have enough Demon Fangs, buy Gold Pot (if you haven't already), which, when equipped, makes your ink fill up very quickly. If you don't have enough Fangs, buy lots of Infinity Stones (about 20).

Head up the path and save at the Origin Mirror.

Note, if you didn't collect everything you wanted to in the main game, keep a recent saved game file of a time before you entered the ark. That way, if you do want to go back and collect everything, you can just load up that save and then redo the follow boss fights.

This area has five paths. Each one leads to a boss whom you've already fought. I'll give the quick summary for each one, just to remind you, but if you're having trouble, go back in the walkthrough and find the detailed description of the first time you fought that boss.

Ninetails - Avoid attacks until sword is raised. Draw line from lighting to sword. Attack each of the little sections of tail (little imps) that break off. Using Slash is very effective on the little imps (three slashes per imp). When all nine tails (imps) are defeated, use Mist to slow time when the Fox charges. Attack from the side and the back. If the sword is raised, use lighting on it again.

Crimson Helm - Attack until his armor pops off. Use Galestorm to blow out the fire. Attack him now that he's vulnerable. Use Slash as your main attack and you can quickly defeat him.

Bandit Spider - Attach three vines to hooks on spider's rear end. It'll open up revealing eyeballs. Slash away at the eyeballs.

Orochi - Seriously? Orochi again. If you need a reminder of how to fight him you may need your memory to be checked by a medical professional.

Blight - Anytime he grunts, use Mist to slow time. Attack him as he goes by. Get enough attacks in and the blue sword will go flying and stick in the ground. Attack it. Also, if spinning swords are coming at you. Slash back the blue sword, and then attack the sword when it sticks in the ground.

After all five of those reruns are defated, the center platform will become active and you'll have to face off with the Final Boss, Yami.

If you don't have at least 40 Holy Bones S, 10 Vengeance Slips, and at least 5 Exorcism Slips L (in order of importance), then I recommend you visit Marco the merchant if you can afford these things.

When you're ready, go up the central platform to face off with Yami.

Boss Fight - Yami

At the start of the battle, Yami will steal all of your Brush Strokes. What a jerk!

Part 1

You are kickin' it old skool! You have no weapons and no brush strokes. Jump to avoid any attacks and then attack the ball by kicking it (feel free to jump and kick it). You know you're doing damage when you see if flash red. After a good many attacks, you'll regain Rejuvenation, and with it, your weapons.

The ball will bounce and cause some damage to the battle arena's floor. Use Rejuvenation to fix the floor as you see fit. Otherwise, simply attack until you get Power Slash back.

The ball will start out stunned. Slash it. It will then fire missiles. Slash the missiles to send them back at the ball. Repeat until it is stunned again. Slash it. Keep this up until you get Greenspout back.

The ball will start out with a red circle on it. Bloom it to make it open up. Jump up to it and attack the small crystal orb using whatever weapon you please (a weapon does more damage than Slash here). If you don't drain its health meter while it's open, simply Slash missiles back at it once it closes back up. Either way, it'll morph into a green ball and have a new health meter.

The green ball will set itself on fire. Avoid its attacks until it turns green again. When it's green, either Slash it or attack it until it breaks up into platforms that you can use to jump up to the small crystal orb on the middle platform. Attack that crystal orb. Keep this up until you get Cherry Bomb back.

It'll start out stunned. Run up to it and attack it. When it's back to being green, either attack it as normal, or better yet, if you can get a bomb to explode near it, it'll open up so that youc an attack the small crystal orb. Keep this up until you receive Waterspout.

Notice the fountains surrounding the battle arena? Anytime that it's on fire, put it out. Again, use bombs and/or normal attacks until you receive Crescent.

Continue bombing it and/or attacking it however you can to get it to open up. Keep attacking the small crystal orb until the health meter goes down to zero and a new form is spawned.

This next form is Yami as a blue ball. He also turns into a slot machine. Use Slash across all three slots to stop the machine. If you don't get three-in-a-row of the same thing, the machine will spit projectiles out at you. Simply Slash them back at him. Repeat this until you get three blue balls in a row. This will result in you getting a brush stroke back. Keep this up until you get Galestorm, Inferno, and Veil of Mist.

Once you have Veil of Mist, use it to slow time. Then, use Slash to get three blue balls in a row, noting that you can slash one slot at a time (you don't need to slash all three at once, you can be much more precise doing one at a time). Upon getting three blue balls in a row, the small crystal orb will drop out onto the ground in front of the slot machine. Slash at it until its health bar is gone. It'll morph.

The ball is now yellow and there are thunderclouds in the sky. Dodge the attacks (lightning whippy arms, red laser beam) and look for the crystal orb to appear, sticking out of the ball. Slash it anytime you see it. If missiles are fired at you, Slash them back. Keep this up until the ball is stunned and lays on the ground. Run up to the exposed crystal orb and attack it. Repeat this until you get Catwalk back.

You may use catwalk to climb the pillars surrounding the area if you want some some Steel Fist Sake and a Golden Peach, but I say leave well enough alone. Keep attacking him the same way, being conscious of your health situation (use Holy Bones or a Vengeance Slip or two), until you get Thunderstorm.

You know what to do with thunderstorm, right? When Yami raises its dual swords to the sky, draw lightning to them! This will cause the crystal orb to roll out onto the ground. Attack it. Repeat this procedure until you receive Blizzard.

Keep up the same routine of attacks (use Mist if the missiles are too much for you) until the ball explodes and you get a cutscene.

Part 2

After seeing almost every character in the game and enduring a prayer attack, you'll have to finish off Yami.

Yami is now a ball with a hand sticking out of him. In the palm of his hand is the crystal orb ("Pan's Labyrinth" anyone?).

Draw a sun in the sky to light things up. At this point, I recommend that you use your Vengeance Slips, Steel Fist Sakes, and Exorcism Slips at will to do him in. With the Vengeance Slips active, you are invincible to attack. The Steel Fist Sakes will up your attack damage and using some Exorcism Slips L will do some serious damage. When the sky goes dark again, during battle, simply paint another one in. Continue attacking him until he's defeated.

Congrats! You are finished with the game. You also get the 100th Stray Bead for finishing the game. It'll be shown to you in the "Treasures" part of the ending.

The End Game

After the closing scene you'll be rated on your performace. The rating is based on five categories and here is how I scored (all pink trees, which is the best!):

Deaths: 0
Enemies Defeated: 679
Money Gained: 5,262,261 Yen
Demon Fangs Found: 440
Praise Earned: 6442

Depending on your ratings and if you got all 100 Stray Beads (the 100th you got for finishing the game) you can earn the following:

Karmic Transformers 1-9
Karmic Returner
Stray Bead #100
String of Beads (if you got all 100 beads)
Secret Theater

Save your game, and if you want to replay the game, load it from that save. It's called, "Start from Beginning" save.

This allows you to play through the game with all of your goodies. This includes the String of Beads which gives you limitless Ink and Health and raises your attack power x 10 for whatever weapon you're using. It also includes all of the Karmic Transformations which allow you to take on the appearance of another dog.

In addition, you'll retain all of the Yen you earned from before and all of the health that you had from before, minus that health earned from Sun Fragments. In other words, you can play through the game and kick some rear end!

Finally, at the start menu screen you'll have a new option, "Presents from Issun," which is essentially portfolio of drawings and movies.

So that's it. Thanks for using this Lunabean Walkthrough!
