Pikmin Wii Game Guide

Day 1 - The Impact Site (Untimed) - 1 Part

After watching the quick introductory cutscene, you'll know your job: Locate and retrieve the parts to Captain Olimar's damaged ship, the Dolphin. You have 30 days to do it (don't worry, a day is only 15 minutes), so get moving!

Use the Wii control stick to move Captain Olimar down the hill to the left. You can explore if you want. However, if you're looking to move things along, simply continue making your way to the left, while remaining near the bottom of your screen. Eventually you'll run into a "strange thing", or a space pod (Olimar will refer to it as an Onion). Run into the Onion and it will emerge from the ground and spit out a seed.

Wait for a couple of seconds and watch as the seed sprouts. Approach the sprout and you'll be given some on-screen instructions that tell you to pluck up the sprout with "A". Do so to meet your first Pikmin. YAY!

At this point you'll be given instructions explaining how to control your Pikmin. You can throw the Pikmin by grabbing him with "A", pointing your Wii-mote so the pink reticle is in the spot where you want your Pikmin to land, then hitting "A" again to toss the little guy in that direction.

You can call the Pikmin to your side by hitting "B".

Disband your Pikmin by hitting "C". This will come in handy when you have more Pikmin, as will moving all Pikmin by pressing down on the control pad.

In addition to Pikmin controls, you'll also be given camera controls. Rotate the Camera (behind Olimar) with "Z", press the control pad right or left to Zoom, or press the control pad up to Change Perspectives.

Since this first day is untimed, play around with your controls a bit to get a feel for them. When you're ready, take note of the two Pellet Poseys (red flowers) near the Onion. Toss your Pikmin near either one of them and he'll automatically get to work cutting it down. Once Pellet falls, the Pikmin will automatically pick it up and carry it over to the Onion.

Note, the Pellets display a number "1". This means only one Pikmin is required to carry the Pellet.

When the Pikmin and the Pellet reach the Onion's beam, the Onion will suck up the Pellet and spit out more Pikmin seeds, thus creating more Pikmin. Pluck them from the ground, then toss your three Pikmin at the other Pellet Posey. Notice how much faster three Pikmin get the job done than the one did. Moral of the story? Put as many Pikmin on a task as possible, as it will speed up each and every process.

Pluck up your two new Pikmin, giving you five.

To the right of the onion is a cardboard box. Press against it and your Pikmin will do the same. Note the number 10/5 appears. The "10" indicates the number of Pikmin necessary to move this object. The "5" indicates the number of Pikmin you have trying to do so. You need five more little troops.

Call the Pikmin to your side with "R", then return to your ship. Note the tree stump slide behind the ship. Lead your five Pikmin up it then toss one at the Pellet. Follow him as he carries the Pellet back to the Onion, and take note of the Pellet behind the nearby flowers as you go (it has a "5" on it).

Once the Pellet is sucked up, pluck the new Pikmin, then head to the large "5" Pellet. Stick five of your Pikmin on it and have them carry it away. Toss the remaining two up to the nearby Pellet Posey on the ledge, and have them carry that Pellet back to the Onion. When all is said and done, you should have about 14 Pikmin by your side (the number of seeds the Onion spits out isn't always consistant).

Guide these 14 Pikmin back to the cardboard box and have them push it, opening up a new path for you.

Immediately take note of the moving piece of machinery to your right. Move toward it to discover your first ship part, Dolphin's Main Engine. Toss a Pikmin at it and he'll grab hold. Doing so will reveal that you need 20 Pikmin to move the piece of machinery. Hmm...a few more little guys to go.

Collect your troops and move up the little ramp. Cross over the cardboard box to an open tree stump with four Pellets (one may be hard to spot, as it's at the bottom of the screen, up on a ledge). Assign your Pikmin to each of the Pellets and follow them to the ship. Tap "A" to quickly pluck the many seeds. When all is said and done you should have about 25 little red men. Lead the group to the Engine, assign them to it, and watch as your little team brings the first ship part to the Dolphin. Nice work!

Day 2 - The Forest of Hope - 1 Part

While there is still one ship part that needs rescuing at the Impact Site, you're not quite ready to grab it. So, instead, select "The Forest of Hope" and head to your new destination.

From here on out your days are going to be timed. Watch the sun meter at the top of your screen to see how much time you have left (remember, a day is 15 minutes).

Immediately head to the Onion and step into the beam of light. Hit "A" and you will be asked how many Pikmin you want to release from the ship. Select them all (press "down" on your control stick, then hit "A").

With all of your Pikmin by your side, assign a couple of them to each of the two Pellet Poseys, then toss the remaining Pikmin at the white gate to the right. They will begin work on knocking that wall down. Don't worry about the wall opposite the gate at this time, as you will need bombs to knock it down.

Pluck your new Pikmin as you wait for the gate to fall. When it does, move in and take on your first native creature (the red frog/beetle looking thing). To defeat enemies all you must do is toss your Pikmin onto the enemies' backs, at which point your little team will start whacking away (watch the meter above your foe to find out how much life he has left). Note, always try to throw your Pikmin at the enemy from behind. You can take a forward approach, but doing so will almost always guarantee a few Pikmin will be chomped by your foe.

When the native creature falls, assign five Pikmin to it and they will carry it back to the Onion. The Onion will, in return, spit out more seeds. Lovely. Continue to collect the many Pellets in the area and fight off the small red beetles (there are three more). At this point, avoid the large red beetle near the pellet marked with "10".

Once all the pellets have been sent to the Onion, return to the ship and pluck up your new Pikmin friends. Lead them back out to the spot where the "10" pellet was, near the large red beetle. Across from the sleeping beetle is a Eternal Fuel Dynamo. Assign forty to the ship part, then sneak your remaining Pikmin (have at least 20), to the back side of the sleeping beetle.

Toss your little red men at the native creature. Be careful not to toss the Pikmin at the big guy's mouth. Also, watch the beetle shake off the Pikmin, as those affected will be put into a daze. Quickly call them back and toss them at the enemy again. Repeat until the beetle goes down and have your men carry him back to the Onion.

Head to the Onion, passing those carring back the beetle. Collect the 40 Pikmin at the Dolphin (the ones who returned the Eternal Fuel Dynamo), and lead them to the fence just past the spot where they large beetle was sleeping. Have them begin work on the fence. As they slave away, return to the Onion and collect those who delivered the large beetle. Pluck up those in the ground, too, until you hear that your Pikmin have completed work on the fence. Gather all of those that have been unearthed, and make your way to the fence.

Move forward with your gang. Quickly eliminate the two small red beetles, then sneak past the large one and attack from behind. You should have plenty of Pikmin with you at this point, so getting rid of him should be easy work. Once he falls, note the nearby space pod. Another Onion? Approach it for a bit of a cutscene.

You have unearthed the Yellow Onion. Any Pellets or bodies brought to the Yellow Onion will result in Yellow Pikmin. Yellow Pikmin can be tossed higher than Red Pikmin, and they work with bombs.

Note, Pellets of the same color as the Onion will produce more seeds. This means you should do your best to deliver Yellow Pellets to the Yellow Onion and Red Pellets to the Red Onion. The receiving Onion is determined by the color of Pikmin carrying the Pellet. Pikmin are completely democratic, so, if there are more Yellow Pikmin carrying an object, that object will be delivered to the Yellow Onion, and vice versa.

How do you control one group of Pikmin over the other? Disband them with "C". This will force the Pikmin to break up into color groups, allowing you to easily select one color group over the other (put your cursor over them and whistle with "B").

At this point you should be nearing the end of the day. If you have time, go ahead and collect the surrounding Yellow Pellets with your Yellow Pikmin. However, as soon as you get the "Hurry Up" screen, head back to the Red Onion and the Dolphin collecting any and all straggling Pikmin as you go. Pikmin that are far from home base (the Onions) when time runs out will be left behind in the darkness, and they won't survive the night.
