BEGINNING NOTES
Before the actual walkthrough does start, I must note down some stuff that you
may need to know to comprehend the acronyms and whatnot. I will be assuming
you can catch Pokemon, control it and all that since it is incredibly simple
to do. For listing the Wild Pokemon in the area, it shall be done as follows:
| POKEMON |
TYPE |
EVO. METHOD |
RAR |
LVLs FOUND |
FIND METHOD |
| Starly |
Normal/Flying |
N/A |
50% |
2,3,4 |
Grass |
POKEMON is the name of the creature, TYPE are the types of the Pokemon. EVO.
METHOD is what must be done to get this Pokemon to evolve - if it is level,
it will say level and also list the level it evolves at. Otherwise it could
say Happiness, [Element] Stone, Beauty, Time, Item etcetera. There are a fair
few possibilites. RAR is short for rarity and it will be listed with the
percentage of how often you find it. This would be like taking it from a sample
of 100 wild Pokemon - obviously you could get lucky and find a 2% Pokemon many
times or never find a 60% Pokemon but on the whole it will show how rare it is.
LVLs FOUND is short for levels found and will list the possible levels for the
Pokemon to be at. Finally, the find method is how the Pokemon is found. This
field can include any of the following:
:: Grass - Walking in the grass.
:: Surf - Surfing on the water.
:: Rock Smash - Breaking rocks.
:: Event - Found in an event ie receiving your starter Pokemon from the bag.
:: Fishing O - Fishing with the Old Rod.
:: Fishing G - Fishing with the Good Rod.
:: Fishing S - Fishing with the Super Rod.
:: Fishing OG - Fishing with the Old or Good Rod.
:: Fishing OGS - Fishing with any of the rods.
:: Fishing [letters] - You get the idea.
:: Grass (R) - In the Grass with Ruby equipped. Post National-Dex only.
:: Grass (S) - In the Grass with Sapphire equipped. Post National-Dex only.
(It may also be with Fire Red (FR), Leaf Green (LG) or Emerald (E). As always,
post National-Dex only.)
:: PokeRadar - Found in the grass with a Key Item you receive after you get the
National Dex. Post National-Dex only, obviously.
:: Swarm - Appears in the case of a route swarm as seen in Sandgem Town. Post
National-Dex only.
:: Garden - In the Trophy Garden Pokemon list, Pokemon with this find method
will be seen there. It means that they can be in the garden but only on one
day. This day is entirely random.
Each route will have three seperate lists, one each for each time of the day.
They will be shown each time a new area is explored that has Wild Pokemon you
can access at the time.
The Pokemon that you may face from the trainers will also be listed before
the walkthrough to each area starts. As always, these will only show if there
are actually trainers in this area.
You should also note that you can delete your save file by pressing B, SELECT
and UP on the Giratina screen. This must be done to successfuly save a new
file onto the game cartridge.
You can also soft reset the game at any time by pressing the button combination
L + R + START + SELECT. This is helpful if you accidentally kill a legendary,
for example.
In addition, the following Pokemon are now in the Sinnoh Dex:
Rotom, Gligar, Gliscor, Nosepass, Probopass, Ralts, Kirlia, Gardevoir, Gallade,
Lickitung, Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon,

In addition, these Pokemon CANNOT be found in Diamond, Pearl or Platinum:

Keep this in mind for the walkthrough. Now, let us start Pokemon Platinum!
TWINLEAF TOWN
YOUR HOUSE
Before starting, you must name yourself and your rival, as always, as well as
choose your gender. Whatever you choose makes no difference to the gameplay,
so pick as to your preferences. Get through Rowan's monotonous speeches (hold
down A to make it go faster) until you reach the end of it and are actually
in your house.
Before you get to start, you will be shown a TV Report about something which
I currently cannot tell you, but it has a picture of Rowan's lab. You'll be
able to press A after a few seconds.
As soon as you start, press X and go down to options (three down from the top)
and press right on the first one (Text) to set it to fast. This makes it much
more bearable if you read at a good speed. The other two are incredibly slow.
The rest of the options are to your choosing. Battle Style, changed to Set,
can make it so you aren't able to switch when the opponent switches like in
the Battle Frontier, which can make the game a slight bit more of a challenge.
Battle scene can turn the attack animations on and off. Button mode can stop
your A button wearing away as fast, perhaps. Frame is always fun to customize.
You should note that Platinum has new frames from D/P, including a classic
GSC frame (#18). Make sure to exit with the bottom option to save the settings
you chose, then save your game. Note that if you wanted to start a New Game
then you would have to do B + Select + Up at the Giratina intro screen then
delete your file before you could save a new one.
When you start, move one square in any direction and your rival will come up
the stairs and start talking to you. Once he stops, go downstairs and your
mother, Johanna, will also come talk to you. She tells you that your rival
asked you to go to his house, so do so. But not before she stops you at the
door and tells you to beware of Pokemon. Pretty typical mother there.
Attempt to enter the rival's house and he will come out and bump into you. He
starts heading to the lake then stops and goes back inside again. Silly boy~
Follow him inside the house to end up talking to him again and watch him leave
and threaten you with a ten million fine, then follow him. Again. This time,
head out of Twinleaf north to meet up with him. Ugh.

After your rival talks about something, Rowan makes his first appearance.
Answer yes to his question, then after some more dialogue Dawn will come along
with Prof. Rowan's briefcase. You can now choose the starter Pokemon of your
choice from the briefcase - just press A on it. None of them make the game
particuarly hard and they're all worth using. Infernape and Torterra are
probably better than Empoleon but overall it makes little difference. Just
choose who you want to - there are other Pokemon to fill the type gaps. If you
want to save before you battle, save just before you pick your Pokemon.
Rowan and Dawn will leave, then your rival will ask if you want to battle.
When you say yes, you will be thrown into a battle.

STRATEGY
With no elemental attacks, this battle is a simple brawl. Just keep attacking
with your main attacking move and use the secondary move if neccessary. It
can be somewhat luck if the rival attacks a lot since you have no way to get
your Pokemon's HP to recover. Don't worry if you lose! Piplup users particuarly
might have a problem because of Turtwig's tendency to Withdraw about six times,
so you might have to pray for a Critical Hit. Using Growl six times to reduce
Turtwig's attack power might be worth it, for this will reduce Turtwig to about
1 or a rare 2 damage per attack, as will you be because of Turtwig's Withdraws.
You must Growl to win pretty much because you WILL lose a straight-out attack
fight with Turtwig. If you do lose, you will have to give up $40 and a free
level for your starter, but nothing more.
YOUR HOUSE
After this INCREDIBLY ANNOYING BATTLE (if you chose Piplup) you will go back
to your house. Johanna will talk to you a bit and then you will get the Running
Shoes, meaning you can go faster anywhere just by holding B! Very convenient.
Head out of the house and go back into Route 201, with double speed.
