Part 2: The Beginning - Save Fountain 9

01. The Beginning

For the beginning part of the game, you'll be prompted on what to do. Pay attention to your cues and learn the movements as the game teaches them to you. If you played previous Prince of Persia games, this will be a nice refresher for you.

Run toward the broken door and use your "Action" button to roll under the door. Next, get a feel for your camera movement. At anytime you can enter the "Start/Pause Menu" and navigate to "Options" > "Camera" to adjust your camera controls. Locate the wooden structure on the left that you can jump up to. The game will tell you to, "Jump up and Grab the Ledge". Do so and press your "Action" button again to climb on top of the structure. Climb up the next, small ledge, and jump across the gap to the stone platform above the door where you entered. Jump across the small gap to the next stone platform, turn the corner, and then jump across the gap to the wooden platform.

It is here that you will learn how to do a Wall Run (Horizontal Wall Run - See "Movement Terms" in the Introduction). Press and hold the "Special Action" button while running next to the wall. You'll run along the wall and end up on the other side. At this point, you need to do a Vertical Wall Run. Face the wall, move toward it, and press and hold the "Special Action" button. You'll run up the wall and automatically grab onto the ledge. Shimmy (see "Movement Terms" in the Introduction) to the left and around the corner and then drop down. Drop down again and you'll see the top of a ladder sticking up. Move toward the ladder and you'll automatically get on. Slide down the ladder.

Jump onto the column. Climb up and turn yourself around so that you can jump to the other column. Climb up this column and then jump back to the first column (now higher up on it). Climb to the top of it and rotate so that you can jump to the balcony behind you. Run around the balcony to the raised platform with the railing. Move toward the railing and you'll automatically jump over it and hang from the other side. Jump from the railing to the column. Climb to the top, rotate so that your back is facing the wall with the recessed ledge and jump to it. Shimmy to the right and then drop down onto the platform in the corner. Wall Run along the left wall and you'll automatically grab onto a recessed ledge (or if you don't quite make it, you'll end up standing on a small ledge). Shimmy to the left and climb through the gap in the wall.

Congratulations. You've found your first Save Fountain!

02. The Ramparts

Head down the ramp and when you get to the corner balcony with the railing, you'll get a prompt to go into "Landscape View". You know this because you'll see a flashing "eye" icon in the lower left of your screen. Continue a few more steps to the ladder and climb up. Head right into the small room and you'll grab a Dagger from the table.

Here you will learn the Speed Kill System. You'll know you can do a Speed Kill (or stealth kill, if you will) when you see the edges of your screen flash white and become distorted. You'll also hear a heartbeat. You'll see a guard in front of you with his back turned. Press your "Speed Kill" button (the same as you Secondary Weapon) and you will enter a an automatic sequence. When you see your Dagger glow white/blue, hit your "Speed Kill Finish" (same as Dagger attack) button. Then, watch to see if your Dagger glows again. If so, hit your "Speed Kill Finish" button again, and you'll finish off the enemy. (Note: some enemies will be one-hit kills and some require two or more).

If you fail to hit your "Speed Kill Finish" button while the Dagger is glowing (either too early or too late), your Speed Kill will fail and you'll enter normal battle.

You simply can't fail this first Speed Kill. Just follow the instructions and you'll quickly get the hang of it. Head to the right side of the balcony and jump over the railing. Your back will be facing a circular column. Jump to it. Slide down the column and sneak up behind the enemy to do a Speed Kill.

Go to the edge of the balcony where there is no railing. With the wall on your left, do a Wall Run and you'll grab onto the recessed ledge. Shimmy to the right until you can go no further and then pull yourself up. Jump to the higher recessed ledge and shimmy to the right until you can go no further. Then, drop down and move to the right. Across from you, you'll see a balcony with a ladder going down from it. Press your control stick in the direction of the gap between you and the balcony and then hit the "Jump" button.

Slowly slide down the ladder. Note the guard below. When you're about half-way down the ladder, shift to the other side of the ladder and slowly move down until you are above the guard. When he moves to go on patrol, you'll get a Speed Kill opportunity. Or, if you missed the opportunity while on the ladder, simply sneak up behind him and do it.

Continue around and go down to the ground level. Go through the open door. Here is a guard. This is where you'll encounter the Single Weapon Tutorial (see "Free Form Fighting System" in the Introduction). Defeat the guard and then pick up his weapon by standing over him and hitting the "Pick Up/Throw Weapon" button. Note that as soon as you pick up a secondary weapon you'll get an indicator extending to the right of your Health Meter. Your secondary weapon is only good for a certain number of attacks. This indicator keeps track of that for you.

After you kill that guard, you'll see a gap with several waterfalls and a fire ball on your right. Wall Run along the left wall and right before you run out of wall, Jump. You'll end up across from the wall, on the ledge. Jump up to the higher ledge and shimmy to the left. Pull yourself up to the floor and then go up the ladder on the left. At the top of the ladder, look up to see an open window/hole. Vertical Wall Run up to it and climb through.

Move left and you'll see Kaileena being dragged into the inner city. Move left and Wall Run to the curtain (the red tapestry). You'll automatically pull out your dagger to ride the curtain down. Now on the ground, three guards will attack. Don't forget about your "Block" button as it will come in handy. Kill them using whatever combos you like.

After the three guards are dead head through the open door and climb up the ladder. Jump from this ladder to the one behind you. Switch sides on this ladder and continue up. In this small room you'll see a ledge on the left. To get to it, Vertical Wall Run up the right wall and just before the peak of your Vertical Wall Run, Jump. You'll be propelled across the room and will grab onto the ledge. The timing of this will take some getting used to, but it's not difficult.

Now hanging from the ledge, climb up so you're standing on the ledge. Look to the right and you'll see a ladder hanging down. Jump across to it and go up. At the top, you'll learn about your First Person Camera where you can look around to your hearts content. Drop down to the pathway below. Follow the path to the door. To the left of the door is a ledge you can grab onto. Do so, pull yourself up and then jump to the next higher ledge. Pull yourself up to the platform and you'll see an Archer below. You'll want to do a Speed Kill on him. Wall Run along the left wall and you'll end up on a ledge above the Archer. You'll get the Speed Kill indicator. Activate it and kill the Archer.

From the dead Archer, go through the open door and down the ladder. At the bottom of the ladder you'll be in a passageway and you'll see a Guard and an Archer in the distance. Note the ledge on the left wall. Vertical Wall Run up to the ledge. Move along it until you ar blocked by the wall and then jump across to the ledge on the right wall. Move along it until the Guard is below you. At this point, you'll get a Speed Kill opportunity. Do it. The Archer shouldn't have seen you do this. His back will still be turned. Sneak up behind him and do a Speed Kill.

Go through the opening near the dead Archer. Go up the ladder at the end of the hallway. At the top, go forward and drop down. Go forward out onto the wooden balcony. Do a Wall Run along the left wall and near the end of it, jump to land on wooden platform above some windows. Go to the edge of the platform and fall down so that you're hanging from it. Shimmy to the right, along the ledge that goes underneath a window that sticks out from the wall. Shimmy around the corner and then pull yourself up and go onto the next wooden platform.

This platform has a wooden beam sticking out of it, spanning the gap above the alleyway. Cross it, move along the ledge to the right, turn the corner, and then go out on the partial wooden beam. Jump the gap, across to the other partial beam. Go to the left and roll through the small square opening in the wall.

In this room, there is a weapon rack that you can break to grab a sword. Go out onto the partial beam and jump through the hanging rugs. You'll land on an upper beam. Drop down to the beam below you. There is a Guard and an Archer below you. Wait for the Archer to move away, leaving the Guard isolated beneath you. You'll get a Speed Kill opportunity. Do it. Then, sneak up behind the Archer and do the same. If you fail in either Speed Kill, simply kill them by fighting them.

Find the alcove in the corner and look up. You'll see a series of beams. Go to the back wall and do a Vertical Wall Run and then jump. You'll grab onto the lower beam. Pull yourself up and jump up to the beam above you. Get on top of this beam and move left into the small in between area/room. Continue forward and jump to the next beam. Pull yourself up, go out onto the partial beam, and you'll see two walls that are close together. These are Close Walls. You can jump to them and you'll do a split to steady yourself in between them. Now between the walls, slide down. At the bottom, press your "Climb Down" button to drop down.

Fight the two Guards and you'll get some more fighting tips. When they're dead, jump to the beam. Move toward the right wall. From here, you can see a partial beam slightly above and further from you. Jump to it by pushing your Control Stick in that direction and jumping. Climb on top of the partial beam, move left and then jump to the close walls. Climb up the close walls and then pull yourself up to the platform.

From here, you'll see fires burning in the various windows. There is beam sticking out of the right side window. Jump to it. Go out onto the very small partial beam and jump to the close walls, between the burning windows. Slide down. You'll see a Guard below you, but your back is to him. Move the Control Stick so that you turn around (still between the close walls...this is like switching sides on a ladder). Once you turn around, you'll get a Speed Kill opportunity. Do it.

Go up the small staircase and go forward. You'll be overlooking a courtyard and you can do a Landscape View. Below, you'll see a Guard and an Archer. Jump to the central structure where you'll land on a beam. Hang from it. Wait for the Archer to be away from you and have his back turned. The Guard will be below you. Do a Speed Kill on the Guard. Then, sneak up behind the Archer and do the same.

Near where the Archer was standing, you'll find a ladder. Climb up, go out onto the partial beam, and jump to the railing across from you. You'll be hanging on the outside of the railing. Wait for the patrolling Archer to head right and disappear. When you don't see him, climb over the railing and onto the pathway. Sneak up behind the Archer and Speed Kill him. Continue along the path and roll under the door. Go around the corner and on the left you'll see a Save Fountain!

03. The Streets of Babylon

From the Save Fountain, go towards the railing. Look to the right wall. Somewhere between the fire and the railing, do a Vertical Wall Run up the right wall. You'll grab the ledge. Pull yourself up. Face out over the city and do a Wall Run along the right wall, jumping near the end of the Wall Run. You'll end up on a beam above a balcony with a Guard and an Archer below you. Climb on top of the beam. Wait for the Guard and Archer to take up their stationary positions. Then, do a Speed Kill on the Guard below you and sneak up on the Archer to do the same.

From this balcony, do a Wall Run along the left wall and you'll grab onto a partial beam sticking out of the wall. Climb up and walk out to the end of the partial beam then jump the gap to the balcony with the staircase across from you. Head left, up the stairs and you'll reach a dead end. Time to learn the Wall-to-Wall jump. Vertical Wall Run up either side of the wall and then jump. When you hit the other wall, jump again, then when you hit the wall, jump one more time and you'll grab onto a ledge (either the right or left ledge, depending on which wall you started the Vertical Wall Run). Either way, make it up to the next ledge, a stone ledge. Pull yourself up and go around to the half-wall blocking your way. Jump on top of the half-wall and walk out onto the beam. Face the beams spanning the alleyway and jump to the nearest one. Jump to the second, third, and fourth beams and then to the balcony with the railing.

Hop over the railing and position yourself in the middle of it. The camera angle will show that there is a small ledge across the alley from you, part of a broken wall. Although it doesn't look like it lines up with you, jump from the middle of the railing to it. Drop down to the lower ledge and you'll get a Speed Kill opportunity for the Guard below. Do so, then sneak up on the other nearby Guard and Speed Kill him. If the second Guard is alerted, kill him the normal way.

Work your way around the pathway and go out onto the partial wooden beam overlooking the various drainage waterfalls. Jump to the recessed ledge across from you, shimmy left, get on top of the partial wooden beam, jump to the next partial wooden beam, and then from this beam, jump to the hallway across from you.

Go around the corner and you'll be overlooking another drainage waterfall area. Wall Run the right wall and jump to the partial wooden beam. From this beam, jump to the right side wall (not the back wall). When you touch the right side wall, jump again, thus propelling you to the upper wooden beam. From this beam, jump to the room in front of you with the fire ball and the Save Fountain!

04. The Palace Balcony

Hop over the railing to the left of the Save Fountain. Drop down to the tiled roof below. You'll be doing a Wall Run and jump to the balcony ahead of you in a second, but first wait for the Guard to leave the balcony. When he does, Wall Run the left wall and jump to the balcony. Don't attack the Guard. In fact, don't let him see you. Instead, look up to find a ledge going around the corner, above the Guard. Do a Vertical Wall Run up to the ledge. Move around the corner and wait for the Archer to go away. Then, Speed Kill the Guard.

Go around the corner just a tad, so that you can look through the decorative screen. You'll see two Archers and you can activate a Landscape View if you want. Wait for the nearest Archer to look to the right (instead of in your direction) and sneak to left, to the alcove behind him. Look up. You'll see a beam. Get on the chest/furniture, Vertical Wall Run, and jump to the beam. Go out onto the beam and you'll end up above the Archer. Speed Kill him. Then, sneak up on the other Archer and do the same.

Locate the pedestal on the left wall with the two wall plates above it. These are Dagger Plates and are new to PoP: TT. Climb onto the pedestal and then Wall Run up and hit your "Dagger Attack" button to plunge your Dagger into the lower Dagger Plate. You'll be hanging from it. Jump and press your Dagger button again to reach the higher Dagger Plate. Jump to the balcony railing across from you.

Next, you'll learn about the Diagonal Rebound Shutter (Rebound Shutter). This is the thing sticking out of the left side wall. Wall Run to it and when you get to it, press your "Jump" button to spring off of it. It'll automatically send you in the right direction.

On this balcony, you'll see a Floor Switch. Step on it and run through the now-open door. On this balcony, you'll see a gray table in the corner. Get on it. Wall Run the wall and get ready to plunge your Dagger into the Dagger Plate in the wall. Now hanging from the Dagger Plate, drop down to the partial beam below and then jump across to the Dagger Plate on the opposite wall. From here, you'll get a Speed Kill opportunity on the Guard below.

After he is dead, face the two circular columns. Climb up the right side column and jump to the partial beam. From here, jump to the balcony railing and hop over onto the balcony (across the room from the balcony where you entered). Through the decorative hole in the wall, you'll see an Archer. Facing in the direction of the Archer, Vertical Wall Run up the left wall to the ledge, move along it, and out onto the partial beam. From the beam, jump to the close walls. Now in the close wall, turn around, slide down and do a Speed Kill on the Archer.

Face in the direction of the railing and area that is bathed in a soft blue/white light. Hop over the railing and jump to the beam. Do a Speed Kill on the Guard below. Head to the archway that is blocked by furniture (two chair/couches). Here you will learn that destroying objects near enemies may tip off the enemy to your presence. Quickly break the furniture and run away. Wait for the Guard to reset. Then, sneak in, Vertical Wall Run up to the railing, shimmy to the right so that you're to the right of the Guard, hop over the railing (you are now behind the Guard) and Speed Kill him.

Look up. You'll see two Dagger Plates, a Dagger Plate to the left of those two Dagger Plates, a balcony to your right (with an Archer), and a balcony to your left. Wall Run up to the Dagger Plate and then jump to the upper Dagger Plate. Wall Run from the Dagger Plate to the left, using the Dagger Plate to your left. From this Dagger Plate, Wall Run again to the left and you'll end up on the balcony (the one without the Archer).

Face the balcony with the Archer. Get on the table in the corner by the railing. Do a Wall Run to the Rebound Shutter and, instead of hitting your "Jump" button when you get to the Shutter, hit your "Speed Kill" button to start a Speed Kill. After the Archer is dead, look up to find a partial wooden beam. Vertical Wall Run and jump to it. Jump to the next partial beam, above the room below. Walk to the end of it, turn around and jump up to grab the stone ledge. Jump to the stone ledge across from you and then jump up and over the railing.

To your right is a Guard and an Archer. Climb onto the table in front of you and Vertical Wall Run up to the Dagger Plate. Wall Run to the right and jump from the wall, across to the beam (the beam is actually the top of a partition wall). Go out onto the very small partial beam and jump to the close walls. Wait for the Guard to go away. Then, Speed Kill the Archer. Continue along the hallway toward the Guard. On the left, you'll find another table. Climb on it, Vertical Wall Run and jump to the wooden beam. Although it looks like you can jump to a close wall above the Guard, you can't. Instead, follow the beam to the right. Jump to the Dagger Plate. Wall Run left to the next Dagger Plate. Jump to the beam behind you, then, you'll see a close wall, directly above the Guard, that you can jump to. Do so and then Speed Kill the Guard.

Go through the open archway and into the next room. Get onto the ledge/table lining the wall, Vertical Wall Run up to the Dagger Plate, and then Wall Run to the right, thus grabbing onto a ledge. You'll see two Guards dragging Kaileena above you. Move right to the area without the railing and climb up.

Move along the pathway and locate the Wall Switch. Do a Vertical Wall Run over the switch and jump to the beam behind you. The switch will have opened a panel in the wall. Climb from the beam through the open panel and you'll see a Save Fountain in front of you!

05. The Palace

It's time to deal with your first obstacles. In front of you is a spike floor. To get past it you can either roll repeatedly or do a Wall Run past the spikes. Continue along the path and you'll get to a rotating blade. You can easily roll by it on the right side. Next, is a spiked half-log. One side is flat and harmless, the other is spiked. Wait for the flat part to show and then quickly do a Vertical Wall Run up to the railing. Hop over the railing and continue down the path.

Here you'll have to do a Wall Run past the rotating blade. If you hit the saw, don't worry. You'll take a bit of damage, but can easily climb back up and try again. To get by the blade, start your Wall Run when the flat part of the blade is parallel to the ground. In other words, wait for the blade to enter the wall half way and then begin your Wall Run. At the end of the Wall Run, jump. You'll land on the next pathway.

You'll have to do a Wall Run to a Rebound Shutter. The only problem is there is a spiked half-log in your way. Wait for the log to be flat, then do the Wall Run and Rebound Shutter jump.

Next, a spiked floor and a spiked half-log that you have to Vertical Wall Run past. Wait for the spiked half-log to begin its turn from spiked to flat. At that moment, roll to the wall, thus getting by the floor spikes, and quickly do a Vertical Wall Run.

Here you'll see two rotating blades. Stand on the right side and roll past them. In this hallway, you'll see a Dagger Switch (see "Switches" in the Introduction) on your right and a rotating switch in front of you. Go to the rotating switch. Grab a hold of it with your "Wall Run" button and push it to rotate it. A hole in the ceiling will open. Go underneath the Dagger Switch. Vertical Wall Run up to it and plunge you Dagger into it. Your weight will pull it down, thus moving the block out from the wall. Jump to the stone block and then Vertical Wall Run up to the ledge and climb up to the room above.

On the left, you'll see a Save Fountain!

06. The Throne Room

The voice-over Kaileena tells you to pay attention to what you overhear while in this room. Essentially, Vizier (you may remember him as you final fight in Sands of Time) is evil and he now has control of the sands of time.

Look around the room. There are four swan-horse statues, various platforms, and many columns. With your back to the Save Fountain, look to the first swan-horse statue on your left. You'll see a Dagger Plate above it. Go there and Vertical Wall Run up to the Dagger Plate. Wall Run to the right and you'll end up on a stone platform. You'll see an Archer. Wall Run to the Rebound Shutter and activate a Speed Kill on the Archer.

You are now on the side of the room opposite the red curtained throne. Wall Run along the back wall to the next stone platform and Vertical Wall Run up the stone block. From here, Wall Run and jump from the Rebound Shutter. You'll end up hanging from a ledge on a column. Pull yourself up and you'll see a Dagger Plate above you. Jump up to it. From the Dagger Plate, jump across to the beam. Move out onto the partial beam and jump to the Close Wall. Turn around and slide down. Wait for the Archer to place himself under you and then do a Speed Kill.

Facing out over the room, Vertical Wall Run up the left decorative wall. You'll grab a stone ledge. Pull yourself up and move along the ledge until you are under another Dagger Plate. From the Dagger Plate, Wall Run to the right and then jump. You'll land on a ledge of a column. You are now on the side of the room with the throne.

There is an Archer patrolling near the throne. Wait for him to walk off to the right of the throne and then quickly jump to the circular column. Rotate around and jump to the railing. Hang there and don't move. By this time, the Archer will be moving back toward you, but won't see you as long as you're hanging from the railing. When he turns back around again, hop over the railing and sneak up behind him for a Speed Kill.

With your back to the throne, go to the left corner of the balcony railing. Looking out over the room, you'll see two Guards below and a circular column that you can jump to. Do so. Rotate and jump to the Close Walls. Slide down and you'll be prompted to do a Double Speed Kill. Go through the door the Guards were guarding and you'll get an amazing cut scene.

You have gained the RECALL POWER

The Recall Power allows you to rewind time about five seconds. This is very useful, if for example, you fall while making a jump. You can simply rewind and try again. Another example is if you die while fighting an enemy. You can rewind and keep fighting. Note that inside your Health Meter, three of the six Sand Tanks are full. Each time you use the Recall Power, you use one Sand Tank. You can refill Sand Tanks by finding Sand Clouds in various dead enemies and by breaking objects. Finally, note the red bar underneath your Sand Tanks. This depletes as you rewind, allowing you to see how much time you have left to rewind. The red meter need to refill before you can activate another Recall.

You also have the Dagger of Time, a much better dagger than the previous one you had, and is responsible for your time abilities.

If you fall during any of the following, just use your Recall Power to rewind time.

Enter the flaming hallway, break the furniture and continue along the path. The floor will start breaking underneath you. Just keep running. You'll end up in a safe corner where you'll see a Wall Switch. Vertical Wall Run over the switch, which will open the door, and go through the door.

The floor will again be collapsing. Quickly Wall Run the right wall, continue running along the collapsing floor, and turn the corner. Here, near the rubble, you'll be safe. Look up at the wall to find a Dagger Plate. Vertical Wall Run up to it and, from it, Wall Run to the left where you'll be able to use another Dagger Plate. Wall Run again to the left and you'll land on a corner platform. Wall Run the right wall and you'll hit a Curtain, which you'll automatically slide down.

When you land, you'll see a Save Fountain in front of you!

07. The Trapped Hallway

Continue along the hallway. Roll by the first spiked half-log and then the next. Turn the corner and you'll get to some spiked columns. Stand on the right and roll by them as they move to the left. Double roll past the next spiked half-logs and spiked column obstacle. Next, stand on the right and double roll past the two spiked columns with the spiked half-log when the log is flat and the columns are headed to the left. Head down the stairs. You'll see a Wall Switch on your right. Activate it and go through the door at the bottom of the stairs.

In this room, there are five columns. The floor will begin to break away underneath you. Run to the back right column and jump on. Climb up. Jump to the circular column behind you, climb up, rotate and jump to the next circular column. Climb up, rotate so that your back is facing the wall with the windows where the light is pouring in. You'll see a ledge on this wall, above the right side window. Jump to it, climb up (if you're hanging) and then quickly move to the right as the ledge will fall. Turn the corner, jump to the higher ledge, move right, jump to the circular column behind you. Quickly jump from the circular column to the Dagger Plate on the wall. From the Dagger Plate, Wall Run to the next two Dagger Plates and then jump to the next circular column. Quickly rotate and jump to the next circular column and then to the beam sticking out of the wall. From the beam, jump to the opening in the wall where you'll see a red curtain.

Jump to the red curtain and slide down about half-way. Then, jump and you'll end up between some Close Walls. Slide down. At the bottom, it is safe to drop down. Here you'll find a Save Fountain!

08. The Ruined Palace

Move down the hallway and, from the left side, roll past the first obstacle with the left side spiked half-log is flat. Turn the corner and simply run over the triple spiked half-logs when they are flat. Keep going and when you reach the triple spiked columns, stay on the right and roll by them when the furthest column hits the right wall and begins to move left. Immediately do a Wall Run along the right wall as the floor breaks beneath you.

Go through the open door and jump the gap. Continue along the balcony and jump the next gap where you'll have to fight a Guard. After you kill him, grab his sword if you don't have a secondary weapon. Climb up onto the small ledge/platform with the double columns and jump to the wall where you'll land on a ledge. Move left and you'll face off with two Guards. On the right, in an alcove is a Treasure Chest with Sand Clouds.

Across from the Chest is a fire. To the left of the fire, you'll see a two-stepped platform. Climb up the ledges and you'll face off with a Guard on this central platform. Find the Dagger Plates on the wall. Jump to the lower one, then up to the upper one, and then jump up to the ledge above. Move left. Jump the gap to the stone platform and then Wall Run to the Rebound Shutter and jump from it. You'll end up on a ledge. Move left and you'll find a Save Fountain!

09. The Royal Chambers

From the save fountain, step on the Floor Switch and go through the door. Head down the stairs and when you reach the hole in the floor, your arm will take over and you'll be tossed down the hole. There is a Save Fountain.
