Very early in the game you encounter your first Bucket Knight. Bucket Knights allow you to save and will give you hints if you are stuck. It's a good practice to save often in this game. If you die, you have to load your last save file, and if you are negligent, it can be a while back. In this walkthrough, I tell you if there are any important places you should save, like before a big boss battle.
You only have 12 save slots, so save wisely. Save in a variety of slots. When you complete the game and save, don't overwrite that save. If you want to replay the game, you should load that save.
Throughout the game you will find Rubbish Bins next to every Bucket Knight. The Rubbish Bin is where you can store all of your items that you don't want/need or that don't fit into your in-game inventory. At any time in the game, if your in-game inventory is full, you can "Drop" an item. It will automatically be placed into a Rubbish Bin so that you can retrieve it later.
Once you have used an object, for example you followed the Red Feather as far as it will go, you don't need it any longer. You can simply Drop the item. Also, the two maps in the game, Orphanage Map and Airship Map do not need to be in your in-game inventory for you to use them. Once you find them, they will always be accessible by hitting "Select" on the controller.
This game has terrible fighting mechanics. Often you will hit an enemy and it won't register. You simply have to deal with this. The best way to attack an enemy is to make sure that he is standing up (for some reason you can't attack enemies if they are on the ground, except for the fish) and to attack, retreat, attack. Also, during battles, be sure to stay on the move. Don't get caught in one place or enemies can gang up on you.
Any difficult fight in the game is detailed in the walkthrough.
Once you have Brown, the dog, you can have Brown "Find" items. Pay attention to the Find Tutorial given to you when you first rescue Brown. In general, it works like this: You get an item. Open your inventory. Select the item and then choose "Find". Exit your menu and go back to the game. Hit the Triangle Button to make Brown find the item you selected. If the item is in the area, Brown will sniff it out.
You'll know Brown is tracking something if he barks and moves in the direction of the item. You'll know the item isn't around if he whimpers and stays put.
For information on all of the Findables in the game, you need to purchase the PDF version of the guide, which contains every single Record, Film Cannister, Special Item, and information on all of the game's items and secrets.
