Shadow of the Colossus Walkthrough and Strategy Guide >
Colossi 9 - 12
Ride north and across the ravine bridge. Take the upper path, then ride west, along the ravine's edge. Once you clear the ravine, continue riding west, where you'll run into a crevasse (D - 3). Find the land bridge (most likely to your left) and cross it. You'll find yourself in a dried up area with many geysers, each one surround by a black circle. Light is hard to come by, but if you keep your sword up, you'll run into some, which will focus the light into a dark cave north of the geysers. Enter the cave to discover Colossus #9 (still within D - 3).

Stay on Agro and quickly ride out into the geyser area (don't dilly dally, or the Colossus will hurt you with his mouth projectiles). Your goal is to lure the Colossus over a geyser. If your timing is right, and, if the geyser spouts with the Colossus over it, he'll slightly fall, and tuck two of his feet under him. This will expose the green undersides of two of his paws. Run or ride to the exposed portions and shoot an arrow into each one. This will cause the Colossus to roll over. He rolls a good distance, as he's a big guy, so it's a good idea to ride Agro over to the side where the Colossus's belly is exposed.
Once at the belly, hop up to the fur, using the parallel barred armor/exoskeleton to reach it, if necessary. Climb fast and straight up to the next parallel barred section of armor/exoskeleton. Quickly jump up it and over the exoskeleton shelf just beyond it. It gets weird up here, as this is the back of the Colossus, which will, momentarily, be upright. However, for a moment you'll be in limbo, as the Colossus will begin standing up, and your footing will be lost. It is for this reason that I suggest you try to keep on jumping straight up, as any time I stopped at this shelf, I fell off. You may jump over the back of the Colossus in doing so, but, even then, something should catch you as the Colossus stands up. Once you gain balance, work your way to the spine of the Colossus (if you're not there already). If you're on one of the side shelves, run to the beast's posterior to find a path up his spine. Once you find that path, carefully run to the vital sign on top of the Colossus's head. Stab it until the Colossus goes down. If you need a break to refuel, hop back onto his back. You don't want to go through the entire process again.
Your next Colossus is west of you. Ride all of the way to the land bridge you used to reach the geyser area, where you just fought Colossus #9 (D - 3). Don't cross the bridge. Instead, move past it to the south, then head west, toward the light of your sword. You'll pass the Western Plain Altar (C - 3), and you'll pass through a large canyon (C - 4). When you emerge from the canyon (right at the B - 4 line), look south for another altar, the Lair to the West Altar. Move beyond it and through the large cave opening SW of it. Continue through the cave until you find the the large sand pit at the end (B - 4). Ride through it until you stir up Colossus #10.
When the Colossus appears, continue riding Agro, and ride like the wind, or you'll be knocked off and severely damaged. I suggest focusing purely on riding the beast out the first time around. When it disappears, continue riding, and ride fast. Find a long straight line across the sand pit (I suggest a diagonal), and gain some speed. This will cause the Colossus to appear again, from behind.
When you feel the rumble of the Colossus, arm your bow and pull it back. Let Agro continue riding forward as you turn around and take aim at the Colossus behind you. Eventually the Colossus will reveal his face. When he does, shoot him in the eye, then ride to one side, as he'll take a tumble straight into the closest wall. When this happens the Colossus will be temporarily stuck in the ground. Ride over to him and hop on his back. Climb up to his first vital sign and stab it hard and as many times as you can. Three hard stabs should rid the beast of the first vital sign, and you should have enough time to do that stabbing before the beast unsticks himself for the first time. When the Colossus does free himself, simply run to Agro and repeat the process. This time you'll have to climb up to the second vital sign, near his head. Two hard stabs should take it out, and, again, you should have time to do this before the beast goes under again. Once you've destroyed the second vital sign, the beast will die.
Again, ride north, over the ravine bridge, then continue north, with the aqueduct running along your right side. Ride past the Norther Span Altar (F - 2). At F - 1 you'll find a canyon just east of the aqueduct. Head to the easternmost part of the canyon, marked by a broken ruin. Approach the edge of the canyon and hop down to the ledge below. Run down the switchback path to the lake below, then swim west. When you pop out of the water look for the path to your right, which will continue to lead you west and up. Once you're on the path, ignore the path which leads under the ruined pillars. Instead, continue past them, to a ruined archway behind them. Pass through it then look left. You'll be looking at the ruined pillars from behind. Make a running jump so you can cross the gap between you and the pillars, and Colossus #11 will reveal himself.

Colossus #11 is a fan of charging you. To escape his charges, it's best to use the crouch and roll (hold "R1" then roll with "Triangle"). When you're not escaping, make your way to any one of the four fire urns and climb it from the side. Wait in position until the Colossus charges the urn, and a fire stick will fall from the fire, onto the ground. Stand on top of the fire stick and hit "O" to pick it up. If your fire stick is no longer burning, climb back to the top of the urn and ignite it by swinging it through the flames.
With your burning fire stick in hand, jump down to the Colossus. You'll discover the beast is afraid of fire. Remain in front of him and guide him to the tall pillars at the far end of the arena. Actually, guide him through the tall pillars at the far end of the arena, so he falls to the area below. As you're guiding him, keep a bit of distance between the two of you, as he will swat at you. Also, feel free to swing your fire stick at him to get him moving.
When the Colossus crashes beneath the pillars, his armor will shatter and his fur will be exposed. Jump down to meet him (all of the way down), and equip the Ancient Sword. Hop on his back and grab onto his fur, as he'll wake up immediately. The bucking Colossus is tough to stab, as he moves around a bit, but you only need to get three semi-powerful stabs in to eliminate his vital sign. Also, since he does stop for short amounts of time, you really don't need to worry about your grip meter. I tried to run it out and it wouldn't let me. So, keep holding on and keep stabbing, and, eventually, the beast will fall to his death.
Ride north and across the ravine bridge, then east, along the edge of the ravine until you spot two pillars NE of you (G - 3). Pass through them, ride across the bridge, then into the woods. Stay close to the cliff wall to your right, and follow it around until you pop back outside, east from where you entered. Ride east and around the cliff, where you will spot a large waterfall with a few archways above it. Take the path up to it, passing the Misty Falls Altar as you go (G - 2). Move up the stairs, then shimmy around the pillar. Run up the next path, then hop into the the water below and swim north, through the archways. Find one of the level platforms in this area and jump up onto it. This will cause Colossus #12 to emerge.
Immediately jump into the water before the Colossus has a chance to shoot an electrified projectile your way and swim underwater (hold "R1") to any of the three shelters. If you aren't swimming underwater, chances are you'll be electrocuted on the way there.

When you've reached the shelter, note the central circular platform and duck behind it. This will provide you with protection from the Colossus as he comes your way. When the beast is close (you can whistle with "X" to draw him closer), arm your bow and arrow and shoot an arrow into one of the rocks sticking out from the top of his head. This will cause the Colossus the momentarily (and barely) lower his head. Take this opportunity to make a running jump at his face mask. Note, to reach the Colossus, use the shelter extensions which project out from the base of each pillar. Also, note, as you'll soon learn, the stones on top of the beast's head guide him, so, try to aim for one of the front stones, as he'll lower his head straight down for you, making it easier to catch him.
Once on the Colossus's mask, jump and grab your way up it to the top of his head. From here, guide him back to one of the shelters by hitting the rocks on top of his head with your sword (or arrows). Hit the rocks on the right to make him go right, hit the rocks on the left to make him go left, and hit the rock in front to make him go straight. Be sure to grab onto his head in between strikes, or you'll fall off. Once you get close to a shelter, jump from the top of the beast's head to the top of the shelter. Again, use the circular platform for cover. If the Colossus wanders away, whistle to get his attention.
When the Colossus has you in his sights and you are on top of the shelter, he'll hop up on his two back legs, planting his two front legs on top of the shelter with you. This will expose the vital sign on his belly. Make a running jump for the beast's chest, grab on, and stab away. Expect to repeat this process two or three more times, as the Colossus just doesn't give you much belly time.
