It seems James has received a rather cryptic letter from his wife, Mary, stating, "Silent Hill, our sanctuary of memories...I will be waiting for you there." No biggie, right? Oh, did I forget to mention, Mary is DEAD!!! So, there's that. If you throw in scurrying monsters that hide under cars and attack your ankles, crying children, hallways lit up with only your flashlight, a thick layer of fog which surrounds you whenever you're outside, and buildings resembling insane asylums lining the streets, you have all of the ingredients necessary to make a game spooky as all hell.
The graphics are stunning, and the music is so in sync with the horror that surrounds you, I could cry thinking about it right now. As for gameplay, I, personally, love it. An interactive map lets you know what your next move is at all times, the game isn't bogged down by cut scenes, and the riddles take some figuring out. It moves fast, but it's not overwhelming. Overall, the game deserves a very positive review, as long as it's served with a side dish of Spookilicious.
