LB Introduction
This walkthrough is very detailed, so there's little information you will need to know outside of the walkthrough. However, there are a few things you should note.
Controls
While playing hit your "Start" button and scroll through the options. When you get to "Controls...", stop and select it. You will then be shown a display of your controls.
Gadgets
You can purchase gadgets by going into Bentley's "Thief-Net" while in the Safehouse. Instead of selecting a character, select Bentley's computer and a list of "gadgets" will be shown to you, each indicating which character will benefit from the gadget. Some gadgets are automatically assigned, others will require you to hit the "Select" button and assign said gadget to a specific button. The gadgets you can by will increase in number and cost as you go through the game.
For fast money to purchase gadgets look for treasures in the level. Treasure locations are provided in the walkthrough. You must make it back to the Safehouse with the treasures in one piece to get credit for the treasure. If you are hit or are harmed in any way, the treasure will return to its original position. Some treasures are booby trapped, meaning you have to get them back to the Safehouse in a certain amount of time (watch the timeclock), or they will blow. Once you get them back, they'll be automatically placed in your "Thief-Net". Go into it and select "Sell Loot" to get the credit for your stolen treasure. This is also how you sell pickpocketed items.
Bottles
I tried writing down locations of bottles, but the further I got, the less sense it made to include such locations. When people play the game, they collect bottles as they go, then look for ones they have missed. I don't know which ones they have missed, and getting them from bottle to bottle while they may have already picked up said bottle was way too difficult. Particularly after I figured out a great trick. Bottles all make a "clink clink" noise when you get close to them. The closer you get, the louder the noise becomes. If you go into your "Options" menu and select "Music Volume", you can turn it down to "0". This makes it so it's easy to hear the "clink clinks" (although it's a good idea to turn up the volume on your TV, too). I have provided tips for finding some difficult bottles through the guide.
When you collect all 30 bottles look through your binoculars to spot the "Blue Safe" arrow. Open the safe and you'll learn a cool new move. Some really are fun.
To 100% the game you must finish the "game", collect all treasures and collect all bottles. You get nothing but personal satisfaction for doing so. With that being said, on with the game!
Training
Bentley the Turtle will begin the game by calling up Sly on Sly's binoculars. When the conversation is complete, your goal is to power up the elevator, which is up one level. To get up, jump onto the drum in front of you and you will be shot up onto the dinosaur bones above. Take the bones over to the upper level and you'll get an automatic cutscene. After the scene, wait for Bentley to disarm the lasers and raise the gate, then move forward through the hall.
At the next corridor hang a right. Smash any and everything around you to collect coins. Coins will allow you to buy upgrades later. Continue moving forward and take the next right. Down this hall turn left and move outside.
Once outside Bentley will tell you how to walk on ropes. It's very easy. Simply approach the rope, jump (hit "X") then, while in mid-air, hit "O". You will land on the rope. From here, simply run across the rope with your control stick. Jump to remove yourself from the rope. Continue moving along the many ropes to the next room. Approach the gate and you'll meet Murray. Murray will raise the gate for you. Move under it, then jump onto the next rope. When you do, Murray will bust open another door. Cross the rope and pass through the new opening.
Here you will run into Carmelita and Neyla, or "the law". You are a thief, you run from the law. As soon as you gain control of Sly, run from the ladies and their firepower, and keep on running. Once you make it outside, move from rope to rooftop and rope to rooftop. Eventually you'll come to a rope which will put you on the ground. Your boys will pull up in the van. Hop in the back, and welcome to "Sly 2: Band of Thieves".
