Introduction and Gameplay Notes

Introduction - PS2 VERSION

Welcome to Lunabean's "Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow" Walkthrough and Strategy Guide for the PS2. We are great fans of Ubisoft's "Splinter Cell" series. We hope the use of our guide helps gamers enjoy the game as much as we did. After all, it's no fun being stuck for days on end.

We realize few people will read this guide from start to finish. Most will pick it up when they're stuck and go from there. However, we ask that you keep in mind that "Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow" often offers several ways to get through sticky situations. We play through those situations several ways, then we document what we find to be the best way to get through the situation with the least amount of damage, in the stealthiest manner possible. If you are stuck and you pick up this guide, it often will serve you best to go back a couple of paragraphs to make sure you are taking our same path. If you are not, we suggest that you go back to a previous save and take the suggested path, following our guide as you go. We can't help you if you are taking a different path and keep getting caught. There are reasons for choosing the paths we chose.

Important Notes on Gameplay

1) This is ultimately a stealth game. Your goal is to go through most situations undetected. Use your stealth meter to make sure you stay in the shadows. You should pretty much stay in a constant crouch position. If you crouch and move slow, you won't be heard.

2) Controls for the game can be found in the in-game pause menu although there are some references to exact buttons since this is the PS2-specific version of the walkthrough. Hit "Start", select "Controller", and you'll be shown the controls. If we name a button that you don't know, check your controller option to find the specific button in question.

3) As in the original game, some players are having trouble with the "Interact Menu" when there is more than one option. For example, if you have an enemy in your clutches and you are told to make him use a computer, approach the computer and you will get two options: Interrogate or Use Computer. Hold down your "Interact" button, then select "Use Computer". Otherwise, you'll be trapped in an endless cycle of Interrogation.

4) Some parts of the game do not allow lethal kills. You will be told this. If you are not sure, watch the bottom of the screen where your objectives are often flashed for you. If you are told you cannot use lethal force, then you cannot use your bullets. You can knock these people out with your elbow, you can sneak up behind them, grab them, and knock them down with the butt of your gun, or you can use any one of the SC-20K's secondary weapons to take them down. If you kill them, your mission will be over.

5) It will often take two elbow whacks to take enemies down. If you are in a situation where you are trying to not set off alarms, the double elbow whack should only be used on the last guard in the area. If you use it while any other guards are around, they will hear you and set off the alarm.

6) Hide bodies. It really is important. You can be going along in the game and suddenly an alarm will go off and your game will be over because some guard you took out a half hour ago was found. Hide them.

7) Head shots are the best way to take out guards quickly. Remember, your SC-20K works as a Sniper Rifle. Use it.

8) Look around your environment. Poles, narrow alleys and ledges often provide alternative methods for getting past a difficult area.

9) Have fun. This game is awesome.

Multiplayer

NOTE: This was written for the Xbox version of the game. However, I have confirmed that the below is also applicable to the PS2 online multiplayer.

There are eight maps, all of which you can go through in the "Tutorial" mode to learn the inherent ins and outs. The multiplayer game is based on two teams: The Mercenaries (ARGUS Corporation) and the Spies (SHADOWNET). There are three different game modes which are described below.

As a Mercenary, you play in a classic first person mode. You are limited to basic first person movement like running, strafing, and jumping. You have one main weapon, your assault rifle, and a selection of gadgets such as spy traps, laser and proximity mines, and two special vision enhancments: EMF (elcectromagnetic field) vision and motion detection. As a Mercenary, it is your job to protect the ND-133s (the containers holding the biotoxin). There are many ND-133 sites throughout each level which the Spies are trying to get to. In general, the Spies only have to deactivate two or three ND-133s per level, meaning that as a Merc, you run around trying to stop them. To aid you in your mission, there are various in-place detectors which will alert you to the presence of a Spy in a particular room or area. Usually, you and a partner will be trying to defend the ND-133s. You can talk directly to your teammate(s) to coordinate defensive strategies via the headset.

As a Spy, it is your job to either deactivate or steal the ND-133 containers. As opposed to the first person Mercs, Spy movement is more similar to the single player campaign movement of Sam Fisher. You play in the third person and have the ability to climb walls, hide and crawl in vents, and generally be very sneaky. Spies have their own set of gadgets such as spy bullets, which allow you to "mark" an opponent or area, noise emitters, and a variety of grenades. You have the two classic vision enhancements: Night Vision and Thermal Vision.

As you might be able to guess, on any particular level, Spies are able to use ceilings, wall, vents and beams to stealthily achieve their objective. Mercs are limited to running around on the main floor, looking for those rascally Spies.

There are three game modes in Multiplayer:

Neutralization Mode: Spies must find the ND133s and neutralize them by standing near them and hitting the "Interact" button. This takes a few seconds during which the Mercs are alerted to their presence. In order for the Spies to win they must neutralize the set number of ND133s within the time limit or eliminate all of the Mercs. In order for the Mercs to win, they must either eliminate all the Spies or protect the ND133s for the whole time limit.

Extraction Mode: Spies must first find the ND133s and then bring them to a set extraction point. Mercs must protect the ND133s and can regain a stolen tube by eliminating a Spy before he reaches the extraction point.

Sabotage Mode: This is similar to Neutralization mode except that instead of neutralizing the set number of ND133s, you must set a modem near it. The modem requires a countdown during which a Merc can come and remove or shoot it. A Spy can replace a modem and the countdown will start from where it was stopped.

Tips:

1) It is best to explore and get comfortable with a particular map before diving into online play or you'll get annilihated.

2) Try each map as both a Merc and a Spy. This way you'll understand where the Spy is coming from and vice versa.

3) As a Merc, you can use your Laser Sight to identify if another character is friend or foe. Don't shoot your friends if you're new to the game. Fellow gamers don't like that. Oops.

4) In general, communicate with your teammates. Don't be shy about letting them know that you're new to this. Often, experienced onliners will have the best advice.
