Chapter 3

Chapter 3 Introduction

Guide Luigi through the door to the left, down the stairs, then through the door at the bottom. Go through the next door and head all of the way left, where you'll encounter a bit of trouble and a cutscene.

Back at Flipside Tower, speak to Merlon, then take the elevator down to the 2nd Floor. Save at the Save Block, then head to the Store (left) to stock up on supplies. When you're ready, flip to 3-D, go through the fence, then take the path to the Flipside Outskirts. Head down the pipe, then move all of the way left. Blow the bricks off the pipe, then slip down it.

You'll arrive in the Flipside B1 Outskirts. Head right and deal with the two Spring Monsters (excuse me, Sproing-Oings). Continue right then flip to 3-D. Use Slim to make your way through the narrow hole in the wall, then insert you Pure Heart in the Heart Pillar, thus revealing Door #3. Like before, use your Return Pipe to get to the door fast, and move through it.

Chapter 3 - 1: When Geeks Attack

Immediately upon entering the new pixilated universe, Tippi is snatched up. You now have a mission!

Head right. Flip to 3-D to make it past the first two pipes (take out the Koopas as you go), then hit the arrow block next to the third pipe. Flip to 2-D and use the block to reach the top of the pipe, then hit the brick block above it. Climb the ladder that's created and move through the door at the top.

Head right and collect the star from the "?" block. Continue right in your enormous form, smashing as you go. Go through the door at the end and fall down to the next level. Here a Koopa will come across his own star and charge you. Flip to 3-D to avoid him, then locate the next freed star and push your way right. Continue until you reach the sign. Read it backwards: "The red pipes fall in between". Or is it, "Fall in between the red pipes?". Hmm. Hit the "!" block and a platform will appear beneath the door from which you entered the area. Head to it and return through the door.

Backtrack to the left and go through the door. YOu'll be back in the first area. Head right and Save at the Save Block.

Continue past the two red pipes (you'll return here momentarily). Head right and take out the Magikoopas (wait until they've cast their spells to jump on them, or use an item whenever). You will also come across a Cursya on this path. Whatever you do, don't let it touch you, as it will send you back to the Flipside. Either use an item on it, or jump over it to avoid it completely (I suggest avoidance, as you should be saving your items for later). Go down the green pipe at the end and you'll appear in the background.

Head left and move down the first pipe. Open the chest for an item (Thunder Rage for me). Take out the blue Growmebas and move down the revealed pipe. Continue moving left in the background and collect the Ice Storm. Backtrack to the foreground, then return to those two red pipes. Fall down the hole between them.

Hit the blocks above to collect the Pill Palls and work your way right, to the first green pipe. Wait for the Piranha Plant to sink back in, then slip down the pipe yourself. Collect the many coins, then return to the above level. Continue moving right until you get to the platforms. Simply cross the first set. However, when you reach the second set, ride them to the top then jump off to the right so you're above the main level of the area. Continue to the right and fall into the open pit with three pipes. Go down the one to the right for some coins and a Magikoopa Card. To get back, simply jump up and through the pipe from which you arrived.

The left pipe will take you back to the area with the two red pipes. Since we cleared that area, there's no point in going back. So, instead, go through the middle pipe.

Save at the Save Block and head right (you can go left to take on the Koopa Kickers, if you want, but it's not necessary). After a bit you'll encounter a Koopa guarding Bowser's castle. As tempting as it may be to use one of your items on them, you'll want to save what you have, so take them out by jumping on them.

Continue right, evading and/or jumping on the Bullet Bills and the various Koopas. Eventually you'll reach a castle with a red "X" on it. Place Boomer next to that red "X", and watch the castle blow.

Needless to say, blowing up Bowser's happy abode isn't going to make him happy, so you're going to have to battle the big guy. I hope you've been saving up your items as suggested, as using two to three of them should easily do the big guy in (both the Thunder Strike and Ice Storm do work well here). If you haven't, use what you have, then start evading Bowser's attacks (run under him when he jumps, stay out of this fire breath). When you get some distance between the two of you, lay down a Boomer bomb and hope that Bowser gets close to it. It's not an easy task, but the only option for you if you're out of items. A three of four hits should do the Bows-Man in, at which point he'll join your party (shocking, I know).

As Bowser, practice blowing fire by pressing "down" on the D-pad. You may also care to note that Bows has an attack power of 6. Not too shabby. Once you've had your fun, move right and hit the Level Star.

Chapter 3 - 2: Bloops Ahoy

The Tile Pool

It's time for a swim! Simply tap "2" to swim, and make your way to the right. Swim under the "?" blocks to hit them, and collect the rewards. (I graduated to Level 6 upon releasing the Happy Flower). Continue swimming right, in both 2-D and 3-D so you collect all of the coins possible. Don't bother with the enemies, as there no efficient way to take them out at this point. At the end of the level, flip to 3-D, hit the Save Block to save, then move down the green pipe.

Again, swim right, avoiding obstacles as you go. At the end of the path, swim to the surface and jump out of the water. Here you will be shown a drawing of posts: Up, down, down...Up, down, up. Noted. Hop back into the water and swim left. Swim high and you'll come to another surface area. Exit out and move down the green pipe.

Head right and switch to Bowser to take out the Goombas ("down" on the D-pad provides fire). Hop in the water, float to the bottom, and continue to fight your way forward. Pass through the door at the end.

Here you must clear out all of the enemies. To do this, you must swim and blow fire. It's easiest to start your flame high, then fall down so the fire toasts the enemies below. Once the room is cleared a chest will be revealed. Open it to meet your new Pixl pal, Thudley. Thudley allows you to pound things into the ground. How convenient. Stand on top of the post and hit "1" to pound it into the ground, thus unbarring the door. Move through it and backtrack all of the way to the green pipe. Move down it, then swim left and up the pipe at the end. Flip to 3-D and swim left to the line up posts. Flip back to 2-D. (You may care to save again here, as you'll be encountering an enemy soon).

You know what to do. As per the drawing, you're looking for the first set of posts to be Up, Down, Down (so slam the second two), and the second set to be Up, Down, Up (slam the middle one). Note, if you slam an incorrect post, slam it again to fix it. Hitting the posts will produce a new door. Move through it.

Guide Bowser to the right and have him breath fire on the Robo-Fish in his way. If this proves to be too difficult, simply use Mario to swim past them in 3-D.

Eventually Bowser will reach a massive Blooper. Just keep your cool. Avoid his tentacles as he raises them. Then, when he raises a red one, burn it with fire. Three or four hits should do the job, at which point continue your journey to the right. Go through the pipe at the end and return to the dry world. Hit the Level Star at the end.

Chapter 3 - 3: Up, Up, and a Tree

The Dotwood Tree

Head right, jump to the green platform, then to the brown one, then wait for the yellow platform to come your way. Ride it left, then work your way up the tree, jumping from platform to platform. Take out the various enemies as you go. Eventually you'll reach a platform where you're stuck. You can't reach any higher. At this point, flip to 3-D and hit the arrow blocks. Flip back to 2-D and jump to the above green platform, then switch to Peach and hover to the brown platform to the right. Continue to work your way up using this hover method.

Once you reach the red Koopa, deal with him, then move to the brown platform above him. Use Thudley to hit the post and a platform will be revealed. Use it to continue on your journey up the tree. There's nothing particularly tricky left. Just avoid being hit by enemies that might make you fall down. Otherwise, make your way up to the door at the top and have Bowser burn off the dried bark. Pass through.

Ride the yellow platform up, then move through the yellow pipe, which will take you to the top of the room. Save at the Save Block, then hit the "!" block to turn it red. Return through the pipe and make your way up the new platforms. Take out the Crayzee Dayzee (avoid her music), then hit the "!" block so it's blue. Move up the next set of platforms and you'll eventually reach a post. Slam it into the ground and climb down the ladder that is created. Hit the "!" block so it turns red, then climb back up the ladder to the yellow platform. Ride it up to the next one, then make use of the red platform to your left.

Continue working your way up until you find yourself on a brown platform with nowhere to go. Flip to 3-D and move through the pipe to the spike chamber. Use Slim to carefully move across the spikes (take your time, or feel the pain), and hit the "!" block at the end, so it's blue. Exit back out the pipe and use the blue platform to reach the next "!" block. Drop a bomb next to it to flip it red. Drop a second bomb, then quickly move across the red platform to the brown platform. When you reach the brown platform the bomb should blow, providing you with a blue platform. Take it and continue to make your way up. Go through the pipe at the top.

Jump on the yellow platform and use Slim to get past the spikes. Hop down to the "!" block and set a bomb next to it. Exit the hole before the bomb blows, then backtrack through the yellow pipe. Jump to the right platform, then up to the new red platform. Flip to 3-D and get to the brown platform above. Flip back to 2-D and hit the "!" block. This makes the door appear above you. Use Thudley on the "?" block (Mega Mushroom), then fall all of the way back down to the bottom of the level (then up to the first brown platform). Pass through the yellow pipe, save at the Save Block, then go through the door.

Here you will meet Dimentio. If you're like me, you're out of all items by this point (if you're not, by all means, use them). This means some good old fashioned fighting is necessary. I suggest switching to Bowser, as he has the highest attack power. Yes, he's bigger and it does make it harder to avoid some of Dimentio's attacks, but you'll get the battle over faster. Once you have Bowser chosen, wait for Dimentio (either one) to get close to the ground. Make sure she's not casting a spell, and jump on her head. If it's the real Dimentio, it will do damage. If it's not, it won't. Repeat four or five times to defeat Bleck's minion.

Make your way up to the top of the next set of platforms, and note the wind blowing to the right. Look for a red wave and jump to it. Let it carry you to the right, where you'll spot a pipe. Move through it, then hit the Level Star.

Chapter 3 - 4: The Battle of Fort Francis

Flip to 3-D and move down the pipe. Toss the block at the "!" block and collect the Fort Key from the chest. Return up the pipe and use the key on the door to enter the Fort.

Save at the Save Block and speak to the Robo-cat. Continue through the door to the right, then make your way along the corridor. Look through the two keyholes in the large cat door and continue through the door at the end. Flip to 3-D to find the stairs up to the next level, and climb them. Run to the next door.

Take out the robots, then stand beneath the second door hanging door you pass (the one to the left) and use Thudley to pound the ground and make it fall. Go through it, then use 3-D to locate the platform to the right. Jump up to it, flip back to 2-D, then use Peach to glide over to the left platform. Return to 3-D again and climb the blocks to the next level. Pass through the door here.

Head right and jump on top of the first Flying Robo-Cat that comes your way. Wait for him to get near the ground, then grab him with Thoreau. Toss the feline at the "!" block and head across the bridge that is formed. Move through the door on the opposite end, then speak to the Robo-Cat in the next room. Answer "True", "True", "True", then realize you are without a passcode. Drat! Down you go.

Use Boomer to take out the Chomp-Chomp, then grab the block and stand on the red platform with it. Move up the pipe then jump on top of the arrow block. From here, jump to the level above the spikes (go to 3-D if you can't find it), then move right. Read the plaque along the way, which says, "Right room: 2323, Left room: 2828". Continue to the end and stomp the "!" block with Thudley. Here you will meet a new Pixl. I told him I thought Francis was a nerdy photographer who likes butterflies. A tech geek, if you will (but not necessarily in that order). The new Pixl agreed.

Use Carrie by hitting "1", and glide over those spikes. Continue all of the way left, then flip to 3-D to spot the pipe. Move up it and you'll find yourself back in the entryway. Save at the Save Block, then move through the shorter door. Make your way back to the room with the two hanging doors (one you slammed back on the ground). This time, slam down the door on the right and move through it. Use Carrie to float over the spikes and go through the door at the end. Speak to the Robo-Cat here. Answer "True", "True", "True", "2323". Go through the new door and ride the elevator up.

Hit the "?" block for a Mushroom, then flip to 3-D. Jump on top of the Robo-Cat to get some lift, and make your way to the platform with the chest on it. Open the chest for a Fort Key. Backtrack to the room that once had the two hovering doors and go through the left one. Return to the first Robo-cat you encountered. Answer "True", "True", "True", "2828". Go through the door and use the Robo-Cat to reach the chest. Open it to reveal the Fort Key. When this is complete, backtrack to the large cat door with the two keyholes. Switch to Peach and insert your two keys, then answer all questions "True". When this is complete pass through the door for a funny little scene. Answer with the first answer whenever you get a chance.

If you're like me, you blew through your items a long time ago, so this battle is going to be pure and simple (if you didn't, use what you have, but be sure Francis is visible when selecting an item, or it will go to waste). The best way to fight Francis is as Bowser, in 2-D, hovering on Carrie. You can battle in 3-D, and you can actually see Francis's shadow in 3-D, but I found it to be too hectic. 2-D is the way to go.

So, hop on Carrie and float back and forth across the room. Deal with any Robo-Cats who come near you by blowing fire on them (it's the fastest way to take them out). Next, focus on Francis. Look for the blur that happens before he appears. As soon as you see it, either jump so you land on his head when he appears, or begin blowing fire his way. Either way, you should knock him back 6HP. Note, if you miss you could a) damage yourself b) be temporarily blinded by Francis's camera or c) become a Francis meal. There's nothing you can do about a or b, but if c happens, shake your controller fast to be tossed back up (yummy).

The battle gets a bit tougher as you go, as Francis will try to appear on top of you. This is why riding around on Carrie is so important. The key is to constantly be moving and take a shot when you can. Seven or eight successful hits should do the job, at which point Tippi will be released, as will a Pure Heart.
