Chapter 8



The Final Heart Pillar



Once you're done with Merlon, head to the Mushroom Shop and stock up on various Health Potions (you're entering the final Chapter, after all). When this is complete, make your way to the Flopside's 2nd Level Outskirts. Once there, head right, jump the gap, then move across the pillars to reach the Heart Pillar. Insert your latest Pure Heart and head left, where you'll meet Flopside Merlon. He lets you know the newest door is in Flopside Tower (not Flipside Tower, per usual). So, make your way back to the Flopside Town and ride the elevator up to the Tower. Pass through the final door.

Chapter 8-1: The Impending Darkness



Count Bleck Entry



Head right, flip to 3-D, and move through the door.

Move right while avoiding the charge of the Spiked Koopas who come your way. Either ignore them or take them out with Boomer or Cudge. Look out for the Black Ghost before the door. Simply jump on him to eliminate him. Go through the door.

Fight your way up the stairs to your right with Boomer (or avoid by flipping to 3-D) and pass the door at the top. Continue up the next set of stairs and move through the door up here.

Here you'll have a few Eyes to contend with. The way you eliminate these guys is to flip to 3-D and run circles around them, one at a time. Otherwise, leave them alone and use Luigi to reach the above door, since the one at ground level is locked. Move through it.

Head left and jump to the above ledge as Luigi. Collect the Stop Watch and Long-Last Shake from the chests, then return right. Jump up to the ledge here, hover over the gap, and move down the pipe. Fight your way right and open the chest at the end for the Castle Bleck Key. Backtrack to the aforementioned locked door and move through it.

I suggest switching to Bowser as you make your way to the right, as there are many enemies. Use Bowser's fire, or even his extra weight, for attacks. If all else fails, simply run past the enemies in 3-D. Pass through the door at the end.

Take note of the sconces as you run past them. The second, third and fifth ones are lit. Next, make your way up the stairs, in a suggested 3-D position as it's easiest to ignore the obnoxious Koopas guarding the stairs. Collect the mushroom from the "?" block at the top and go through the door.

Save at the Save Block then head right. Take note of the five sconces. Light them as they were lit in the previous room: 2, 3 and 5. This will reveal a stairway. Move up it and through the door at the top.

Here you will meet O'Chunks...again. The name of the game is the same. Simply jump on his head whenever you get the chance. Bowser is the best choice, as he has the greatest attack power. Seven or eight jumps should do the job. When he's defeated (and once you've lost your most powerful party member), run right and smash the Level Star.

Chapter 8-2: The Crash

Fight off the enemies as you make your way to the door at the right. Go through it.

Speak to Merlon and hit the "!" block. Hey, that's not Merlon. Mimi sure is dirty. Use Boomer on the crack in the wall, then flip to 3-D to slip behind it, then flip back to 2-D (for walkthrough purposes). To your left is a door. To your right is a pipe. To the right of that pipe is another door (get to it via 3-D). Also, if you look at the ceiling, you should see that there are to pipe holes on either side of the pipe. Don't worry about that now. Instead, simply head up the pipe.

Flip to 3-D and collect the Thunder Rage. Next, count the pipes. There are only four. The one from which you emerged, two on the right and one on the left. Go down any one of those pipes and you'll fall to the room you were just in. Again, check out that ceiling. There are two pipe openings to the left of the pipe, but there's only one pipe in the above room. What's the deal with the far left opening? Hmm.

Head through the left door, move past the fire spinner, and hit the red "!" block twice. This will line the pipe up with that mystery pipe. Move up it and voilà...new room. Collect from the chests the Courage Shell the Castle Bleck Key, and the Life Shroom. Flip to 3-D and fall through the hole to the scene of Mimi's crime. Whatever you do, don't hit the blue "!" again. Instead, unlock the door and move through it.

Head right and make your way up the stairs (fight or avoid with 3-D). Pass through the first door if you're in need of health, as there's an Ultra Shroom Shake behind it (head right and flip to 3-D to find the path). Otherwise, simply make your way up the next set of stairs and pass through the door at the top.

Head right and WAIT. Before getting too excited you should note that each and every hanging Mushroom in this room is a trap. If you grab one, you'll fall into a pit below and have to face some enemies. Granted, the enemies aren't hard to defeat, and may be worth facing to earn the Mushroom's 10HP. So, grab the first two mushrooms if you want. The third Mushroom you must grab. Once you fall below, flip 3-D and take out the square enemies. This will provide you with the Castle Bleck Key. Grab it and warp up the pipe. Save at the Save Block, then move through the locked door.

Here you will meet "Merlee". Don't be fooled. This is Mimi, trying to pry info from you. Your answers will determine what appears in the next three rooms. So, make them good. Answer "Ultra Shroom", "Thunder Rage" and "Cooking Mistake" (or "Amazy Dayzee"...just don't pick "Francis", or you'll have a battle on your hands). Exit right.

Grab the Ultra Shroom. Exit right. Collect the Thunder Rage. Exit right. Collect the Cooking Mistake. Exit right.

Boss Fight: Mimi



Your goal here is easy. Use Thoreau to toss Rubees at Mimi as she's hanging from the ceiling. This will cause Mimi to fall to the ground. Toss another Rubee at Mimi, then, as her body hangs low, jump it. Repeat until she runs out of HP.

You shouldn't have to work too hard at protecting yourself from Mimi. She has a couple of attacks (outside the obvious Rubee tossing). One is her Spin Attack. Honestly, it's easier to run beneath it than jump over it, but you can go either way. The second is a Rubee wave that will emerge from the ground. Jump to avoid this, then hover until the Rubees disappear. Note, Mimi does move faster as the attacks go on.

Finally, as the battle moves on and Mimi get's tougher to jump on, try jumping under her. Of course, only do this while holding a Rubee above your head, or you'll be the one taking damage.

Upon defeating Mimi, I graduated to Level 14. And, like everyone, I lost another important team member. How rude. Hit the Level Star.

Chapter 8-3: Countdown to Destruction



Castle Bleck Interior



Fight your way right and move through the door.

Take out the Piggy Banks in this room then return to the door from which you entered. Flip to 3-D to spot the above ledge, then use Luigi to reach it. Head right and flip to 3-D again to move past the square barrier creatures. Fall off the opposite side. Go through the door to the right (note, if you don't use the above ledge to reach the right door, you'll just return to the front of the room).

Carefully head right, jumping gaps as you go. Keep an eye on the mirrors at the base level and locate the one that doesn't "shine" like the others (it also seems to be the only mirror perfectly centered on the platform on which it sits). Once you've located that dull mirror, flip to 3-D and move through it. Head left for the Castle Bleck Key. Head right for the Ice Storm. Return through the mirror and continue to make your way to the locked door on the right. Move through it. (Note, if Dimentio is a problem for you, flip to 3-D to avoid his attacks).

Collect the Mushroom from the "?" block then flip 3-D to reveal the path beneath the stairs. Move to the end of the path and pass through the door.

Eliminate the black ghosts, then note the three blocks at the top of the room. Have Luigi smack the on on the right, revealing a door. Move through it. Repeat the process in the second room, but hit the middle block to reveal a door beneath it. Move through this door.

In this next room there will already be a door beneath the third block. However, don't go through it (if you do, fight off the Chain Chomps then hit the "!" block to be released). Instead, hit the block above the door to shift the door left. Don't go through it, either. Instead, move through the door that takes its place, beneath the third block.

Take out the black ghosts, then flip to 3-D to reveal the numbers on the blocks. Hit them in order (middle, right, left). Collect the Castle Bleck Key, then backtrack through the block rooms back to the stair room. Once there, head and flip to 3-D to move back under the stairs, then move up the stairs to the locked door at the top. Use your new key on it.

Take out the enemies then flip to 3-D. Note the arrow path on the wall. It goes over the first platform, beneath the second platform, then back on top of the second platform. From here, it goes up and right (I know it looks left, but it's really right. Then the arrows point down to the door below. Use Luigi to follow this path and exit out the door (if you do it wrong, you'll be returned to the other door).

Another mirror room. Again, make your way right and look for the mirror without the shine (again, it will be perfectly centered above the platform below it, but it will be a little raised, so you'll have to jump through it. Once on the other side, jump your way through the harmless clones to the Ultra Shroom and Thunder Rage to the left, and the pther Ultra Shroom and Castle Bleck Key on your right. Note, it's tricky opening the chests. Just try to jump on the opposite side of the direction you're being pushed and quickly press "up". It will take a few tries.

With the key in hand, exit out, Save at the Save Block and move through the locked door.

Here you will meet up with Dimentio...momentarily. Use Fleep to flip the Space Rift, then hit the "!" block. You will be transported to a place with color (feels good, doesn't it?). Fight your way right. At the end, use Fleep on the Space Rift to the left of the door.

Next, Chase Dimentio through Merlee's Mansion, all of the way to the safe you cracked for the 1,000,000 Rubees. Use Fleet on the Space Rift here, then hit the "!" block.

Swim all of the way left to locate the Space Rift here. Flip it and hit the block.

In space, head right (flip 3-D to make it up the cliff, then use Luigi to get on top of the pipe), and move past the green door. Flip 3-D to see the bridge and continue forward until you find the Space Rift. Flip it and hit the block.

In Caveman or (Crognon) land, head right, then flip 3-D to reveal the path to the lower level. Take it and flip the Space Rift.

Ride Carrie to the right, where you will find the next Space Rift (listen for it, as it's hard to see). Flip it.

Finally, make your way to the top of the room, and locate the Space Rift on the door. Flip it.

Speak to Dimentio and refuse to fight by his side.

Boss Fight: Dimentio



After that game of cat and mouse, you'd expect a more difficult battle out of Dimentio. All you have to do here is jump on top of the crazy magician and avoid his easily avoidable attacks. Occasionally the big guy will call up a few clones. These are there to confuse you. Try to jump them if you want. If it's a clone, you'll miss. If it's Dimentio, you'll do damage.

Continue to jump on him until he's out of juice. Fairly easy.

Again, you'll lose a party member (not cool). Have the lone plumber hit the "?" block.

Chapter 8-4: Tippi and Count Bleck



Castle Bleck Inner Sanctun



Head right and fight or flip to avoid (avoidance is best, in my opinion) the many nasty enemies. Don't miss the "?" blocks along the way, as two of them hold Mushrooms. Move through the door at the end.

Take out the black ghosts then point your Wii-mote at the screen to locate the door. Move through it.

Make your way to the right, jumping from platform to platform. Once you reach a wall, flip to 3-D and make your way to the platform behind you. Continue to the right and out the door.

In this room there are more more platforms. However, you need to be a little more careful as you move across these platforms. If you allow yourself to ride any of them to the top or the bottom, you'll fall off. Eventually you'll reach a non-moving platform. Flip to 3-D to see the pipe, then move down it. Flip to 3-D again and move to the far side of the room. Note the break in the white line at the floor. This is a hole in the wall. Use Dottie to move through it to the chest and collect the Castle Bleck Key. Backtrack to the platform room and continue right. Move through the locked door.

Flip to 3-D to avoid the elephants and go through the door at the end.

In this next room, immediately flip to 3-D and note the archways to your right. Move through the second one (the first is closed off), then continue through the next one, then the next, until you get to a corridor where you can see there are several enemeies. This is the corridor you want. Move down it and go through the door at the end. (If you want, you can continue into the next corridor, where you'll find a Shooting Star.

Move through the door and flip 3-D. Go through the open archway to your right and collect the Super Shroom Shake. When that's complete, return through the archway, and move to the end of the hall. Flop to 3-D again, then make your way through the series of open archways to the left. When those open archways dead end, flip back to 2-D, head right and go through the door at the end.

Eliminate the Jawbus and the Furries (I went to Level 15 here), then flip to 3-D. Move through the open archway on the right, followed by the next one, and you'll come to a chest with an Ultra Shroom Shake in it. Collect it, flip to 2-D (you are automatically), and head left. Flip to 3-D at the end, then move through the two open archways to the right. Once through the second, flip to 2-D and fight (or evade) your way to the door at the end of the hall. Go through it.

Go up the stairs, collect the Mushroom from the "?" block, Save at the Save Block, then move through the door. Are you ready for this?

Boss Fight: Count Bleck



When the battle begins, focus on avoiding Count's Void attacks, as you cannot do any damage to the big guy at this time. With this being said, you do have to try to hurt the Count, or the game won't progress. So, try to jump on him a few times (use the platforms for a clean shot), but accept the fact that all this does is move the battle forward.

Once your friend rejoin you (thank goodness they're OK), then real battle begins.

For being a "final boss", Count Bleck is quite easy to defeat. Yes, there are several techniques you can use, however, I found the best to be the old standby: The Bowser head jump. Bowser has twice the attack power of any of your party members, so why not use him? Yes, he is a little bigger, making him more vulnerable to attacks, but the Count's attacks really aren't hard to avoid (with the exception of a slow down attack, which only slows you down temporarily). Also, don't be too worried when you spot the Count's mega Void attack, as you can almost always fight your way out of it.

So, avoid the attacks and use the platforms to gain height. When you see the Count open for a shot, jump on his head. Repeat eight or nine times until he goes down.

Boss Fight: Dimentio and Mr. L

Like the last battle, Dimentio will be initially invulnerable to attacks. Try anyway, to get the story going. Also, anytime you see that he's honed in on you with his targeting system, just keep moving. Eventually he'll lock on, but, if you're moving, you'll be long gone before the damage is done. Finally, unless you're completely desperate, DO NOT use any health shakes at this time, particularly if you only have one or two left. I say this because, after this first phase, your health will be automatically refilled by your friends.

Once you're healed and ready to go, fight Dimentio as you did Count Bleck. Use the platforms to climb high, then, when you get a shot, jump on his head. I didn't have trouble doing this as Bowser. However, the Bows a bit slower and not as agile as Mario, and since it is important that you a) keep moving and b) stay off the ground to avoid Bleck's attacks, you may want to move around as Mario, then switch to Bowser right before the head jump.

If you do find yourself on the ground (and you will) look out for the Brobot from above, as he will try to land on top of you, or toss his large white ball your way. He may also push you over to one side. In any case, it's best to flip to 3-D anytime you're on the ground to best avoid any of these attacks. Then, when you've put some distance between the Dimentio Brobot and yourself, flip back to 2-D and climp your way up the platforms. Seven or eight attacks as Bowser should do the job...and complete the game. Of course, since it's a Mario game, there's still sooooo much more to do.
