"Thief Deadly Shadows" is a very long and sometimes very scary game. As a general rule, you should be going through fairly stealthily because you do not want to constantly be in a state of running out of ammo or low on Health. Below, you will find everything you need to complete this game. First up is the "City Guide" then "Weapons and Items" then "Enemy Strategies and Factions" then "Saving" then "Pavelock Prison" and then finally, the "Walkthrough" itself. Please read the Introduction carefully as it contains many answers to questions that you may have.

Also, be sure to read the entire section of the area where you are stuck. Often you will have missed something earlier and you're not reading far back enough. You can get an idea of what you're trying to accomplish by reading the entire mission rather than just the part on which you are stuck.

The walkthrough was written based on the Xbox version playing on Normal difficulty level. The only difference in difficulty levels is better Artificial Intelligence and a higher percentage of loot. Since this walkthrough contains 100% of the loot, (see Loot Guide) and all of the Hammerite Rust Mites and Pagan Cornerstones (see City Guide below) it has everything you need to dominate the game.

City Guide

South Quarter

This is where you begin the game after training and where your home is (Garret's Place, My Place). Most importantly, there is Black Alley, which contains a Fence, Heartless Penny (sell your stuff) and a Shop, The Well Equipped Thief (buy stuff) including Water Arrows. There is also a Fountain near your place which is a good landmark. You can get to the Docks and Stonemarket Plaza from here. Also, Pavelock Prison is located here. See "Pavelock Prison" below for more info.

Pagan Cornerstones

West of the Docks entrance, near the sewer ladder and the wooden cart.

Facing the Black Alley Shop (not the Fence), to the right, on the Porch.

This is the West side of the overall Stonemarket. You'll be going to the NW of Stonemarket Plaza quite a bit because that is where the Keeper Library entrance is located. The NW also contains Terces Courtyard and the Gargoyle Statue. The Clocktower is also accessible from this area.

Pagan Cornerstones

West side of the Tavern, across street from Blue Glyph and Rust Mite, behind some crates.

Head South from the Stonemarket Proper entrance, and you'll see it behind the tree and crates.

Hammerite Rust Mites

Go to Terces Courtyard and find the Gargoyle statue. Run up the stairs South of the statue.

Go to the West side of the Tavern. Find the Blue Glyph hiding the secret room. It's right there.

Stonemarket Proper

This is the East side of Stonemarket. Most importantly, there is St. Edgar's Church, a Fence, Black Market Bertha, and a Shop, Marla's Shop where you can buy Moss Arrows. There is the Stonecutter's House that you can get to by picking the lock on the door directly West of the Old Quarter gate...it's through the small archway. Once inside, you'll find some good loot on the various floors. There is also Cothon's Armory. It is North of the Old Quarter gate identified by the Red Sign hanging outside. There are various weapons and loot inside. Just North of the Armory, there is another small storage armory of sort that has two Health Potions inside.

Pagan Cornerstones

Go North from the Stonemarket Plaza entrance, stop by the tree, and look directly across the street, under a streetlight.

Hammerite Rust Mites

Between the Fence and the Shop near St. Edgar's.

Old Quarter

This is the only way to get to Auldale once that becomes an option. There is both a Fence, Ramien's and a Shop, Carmen's Shop where you can buy Gas Arrows. This is also where the "invisible" Keeper Compound is located and Fort Ironwood and Fort Ironwood's Graveyard. Also a good way to get to the Docks.

Pagan Cornerstones

Near entrance to Auldale near a tree.

Go to main entrance of Fort Ironwood. Look to the North from the entrance and find the chimney across from some crates. On the corner of the chimney.

Travel "To Graveyard" in Fort Ironwood (not main entrance). Find the Cataclysm Memorial. Look North, to the dead tree. Near the corner of the dead tree.

Hammerite Rust Mites

Go to Fort Ironwood Graveyard. Face Fort Ironwood by looking East. Look directly up and find the gray smoke coming from the building. Climb up to the smoke. On the balcony you'll find your Mite.

Westernmost area, near Keeper Compound. In street.

Near entrance to Docks.


The Docks are a seedy part of town. You can't get there until you get Keeper Door Glyph powers. There is a Fence, Dalia and a Shop, The Undercurrent, where you can buy Fire Arrows and the Climbing Gloves. Also in this area is the Abysmal Gale, a haunted ship, and the Tavern. The other side of the Docks is a Pagan area. You really don't have to go there.

Pagan Cornerstones

Pretend you used the Blue Glyph door from South Quarter to get to the Docks. With your back to the Blue Glyph door, facing directly East, you'll find the Cornerstone.

Go to where you found the Pagan Sapling, on the crates. To the NW is a little L-shaped passage. In the corner of that passage.

Find the Tavern's main entrance. Go to it. Face North. Across the street you'll see the Cornerstone.

Hammerite Rust Mites

Take the ladder near the Tavern. On the balcony.

Head to the rowboat that took you to Capt. Moira's Place. In the little side pathway area, with the iron bars.

Go to the Fence shop. Just East of it, in the street.


The ritzy part of town. Has a Museum, a Pump House, and a Fence, The Audale Fence. The Park has become a Pagan area and you can find Inspector Drept's window (with a Hammer symbol in it) near the Pub. One of the burning questions that some of you may have is how to get into Fogerty's Gold Smithery in the Plaza. The door is boarded up but you can see some loot. To get in, head to the canal and find the Pump House as a landmark. With your back to it, face West and go up to the iron fence. If you look through the fence, across the canal, you'll see a small grate and a crawl space. Climb the wall to get over the fence and open the grate and crawl through. You are now inside the Gold Smithery. Pagan Cornerstones

At base of Museum Steps.

In Auldale Plaza, directly below the "Auldale Plaza" sign.

On corner near Inspector Drept's window (the one with the Hammer Symbol in it, near the Pub.

Hammerite Rust Mites

Take secret sewer grate to tunnel near Museum steps. Drop down. There it is.

In the Pump House, accessible only after you get Dyan's Medallian on Day Eight.

Behind the barrel and crates, down the ramp from the Pub.

Weapons and Items

Blackjack - Your club. If you sneak up on enemies from behind, and stand up, you'll see your arm raise up. When it does, thwack the enemy for a one-hit kill. This will also work on the Statue Monsters way later in the game once you have the Unbinding Glyph.

Dagger - Basically use it the same way as the Blackjack. Only difference is, it kills and leaves blood behind. However, it is useful if you are caught and need to take out a Guard. Simply stab him a few times in combat and he'll die.

Broadhead Arrow - If shot at unsuspecting Guard in the Head or Chest it will register a one-hit kill.

Noisemaker Arrow - Does what it says. When shot it will emit firecracker-esque noises. This will attract Guards to that location so that you can either sneak by or Gas Bomb the whole lot of them.

Water Arrow - Puts out torches, candles that you can't pinch out, fires in fireplaces, and if you shoot it at the chain of a chandelier, it will also put out chandeliers.

Moss Arrow - When fired at an opponent, it chokes him/her temporarily. When shot at ground creates a soft and silent surface for you to walk over. Useful on metal walkways and grating if you're trying to be silent. Shoot a Water Arrow at a moss patch to watch the patch grow.

Fire Arrow - Explosive arrow that can cause a lot of damage, especially if well placed between two or three enemies. Can also be used to light the area you are in if you don't shoot it but simply keep it nocked. It will also set an Oil Flask on fire after you have used an Oil Flask. This can be used to block passages. Also works on Undead.

Gas Arrow - Will instantly knock out anybody in the area where you shoot it. Quite rare.

Health Potion - Self explanatory.

Flashbomb - Will temporarily blind opponents so that you can escape. Can also kill Undead. Very useful.

Gas Bomb - Expensive, but highly effective. Will knock out anyone within its range. Try using a Noisemaker Arrow to make several Guards congregate and then throw a Gas Bomb at them.

Explosive Mine - A land mine. Place it on the ground and anybody, including you, who steps on it will get blown up. Good to plant and then have Guards chase you and watch as they run into it.

Oil Flask - Causes a slippery surface. If placed on stairs or the edges of balconies you can watch as Guards chase you and then slip and fall and knock themselves out. Also, can be set on fire with Fire Arrows in order to block pathways.

Holy Water - Very rare. Can be found in Fort Ironwood. Instantly kills Undead and can be used in doorways to block the path of Undead.

Enemy Strategies and Factions


This game has a faction status where you can see how much you've offended or appeased the Hammerites and the Pagans. You can be hostile to both or allied with both or neither or one or the other. The only advantage of becoming allied with one or the other is that the allied group will not harm you as long as you are outside their areas. For example, if you are allied with the Pagans and aren't in one of their parks or camps, but just see them on the street, they won't bother you.

There are two main ways to become allied with each group. The Pagans want you to find and shoot Pagan Cornerstones, the black/dark gray blocks at the base of some of the corners around the city. The Hammerites want you to shoot Rust Mites, little beetle bugs. I have fully listed each and every Rust Mite and Pagan Cornerstone in the City Guide. Please look there first.

Enemy Strategies

You can play through this game with full stealth, using only your Blackjack if you like. Every enemy can be knocked out from behind with the Blackjack as long as you sneak up on him/her. However, this game is meant to have a good mix of stealth and all out power. It is kinda fun to launch a Fire Arrow at the face of an unsuspecting Guard, afterall.

In general, stick to the shadows, don't be seen, and either Blackjack (bop) the enemies or fire Broadhead Arrows at an unsuspecting Guard in the head or chest to kill him with one shot. It's much easier to take out enemies with one hit rather than miss, have them start looking for you, thus wasting time by forcing you to hide until everything settles down.

A good way to kill several Guards at once is with a well placed Fire Arrow, an Oil Flask on stairs or a balcony without an edge, a Gas Bomb, or an Explosive Mine.

Undead can be killed with 2-3 Flashbombs, one Holy Water, or a few Fire Arrows.

There are no auto-saves in this game. That means it's up to you to be responsible and save often. Nothing is worse than getting through a long stretch only to die and have to do it all over again. I have included many friendly "Save" reminders throughout this walkthrough pointing out important places to save, for one reason or another. You, however, are free to save when, where, and how often you like. It's completely up to you but it is a very good idea to create many different save points.

Pavelock Prison

If you get caught in the city by the City Watch you'll probably end up in Pavelock Prison. If you do, you can either go back to a previous save, or, if you want the challenge, you can go ahead and escape.

Break out of your cell.

Welcome to Pavelock Prison. If you got caught somewhere in the City, then this is where you'll end up. Warden Stout will talk to you. Wait for him to leave then wait for the Guard to come up to your cell. When he turns around, grab the Keys off of his belt. Wait for him to go away, then, open your cell door.

Your equipment is locked up in the Confiscation Depository, South of your cell. Get it back.

Head South. Sneak up behind the sitting Guard and steal the Key off of him. This is the Key to the caged storage area so that you can get your stuff. Sneak up to the cage door and open it. You are in! Grab your bag. Before you leave, open the Wall Safe for some Fine Wine and Silver Coins, grab the Goblet and the Flashbomb from the shelving.

Escape from Pavelock Prison.

Exit out of the Confiscation Depository (the caged area) and sneak up on the Guard and bop him with your Blackjack. Go to the locked chest and pick the lock for a Flashbomb.

Enter the tunnel to your West. Follow it and when you get to the T-Intersection, go left. Continue following it to find a Health Potion. Backtrack to the main hallway where you cell is. Avoid the Guard and take him out. Head up the stairs and pick the lock on the door. On the barrels in front of you are two Broadhead Arrows and Flashbomb. Take out the Guard, grab the Health Potion. There is one more Arrow on the desk. Go up the stairs and pick the next locked door.

Go through when the Guard is not near, then sneak up on him and bop him. Cross the room and pick the lock on the next door. In this room, you'll see Warden Stout near the front gate and a two patrolling Guards, one on each side. Take out the Guard on your right by sneaking up on him. Then, take out the Warden with his back to you, then, take out the final Guard. Collect all of the items around the area. Face the gate. To the left, there is a lever which will open the gate. Pull it.

Go through, up the stairs, then up the metal stairs. At the top of the metal stairs, face West, crouch and go into the tunnel. It leads to a ladder from which you can escape to South Quarter!
