Tomb Raider Underworld Game Guide

Introduction

In true "Tomb Raider" fashion, you begin in the middle of the action. Run toward the fiery blaze and you'll automatically climb over the rubble. Continue forward until you get a prompt to jump and climb ("A" on the Xbox 360). Move up the stairs, face the control panel, and hit your "Interact" button ("Y" on the Xbox 360). Move through the door.

Crouch ("B" on the 360) and move under the burning log. Jump and climb up onto the rubble. From this position, "Grapple" ("X") and "Pull" ("Y"). Move through the door.

Grab the Health Pack in front of you ("Y" or "Interact"), then face the yellow ledge on the way (from the opposite side of the gap), and jump to it. Shimmy left. Jump up, shimmy left again. Drop down, shimmy, then pull your control stick down and jump to reach the ledge behind you. Grab ("Y" on the X360) and push the crate to the wall. Climb onto it, jump, and shimmy right. At the end, jump off to the right. Jump the gap and move through the next door.

Head left and you'll get a "Grapple" prompt. Follow the directions (tap "X" to grapple, "A" to jump, control stick forward, then "A" again to dismount). Next, head right, stand on the ledge, and hit your "Crouch" button to carefully climb down and hang from the ledge. Release for a quick cutscene...let the games begin!

Mediterranean Sea Expedition

The Path to Avalon

OK...they don't call this "Underworld" for nothing. It's time to go diving.

Hop into the water and you'll be told how to "Descend" ("B" or "Crouch" on the 360) and "Ascend" ("A" or "Jump" on the 360). Descend all the way to the bottom. Once there, look for the tallest rock structure and swim toward it. If sharks bother you along the way, shoot them. Find the opening at the base of the structure and enter.

Collect the axle from the pedestal, then note the three discs in front of you. Swim to the center of either of the base ones. When you get the "interact" prompt, that means you've found the hot spot. Go ahead and insert the axle. Hit "interact" again to pull the axle. Watch as the disc spins. Note, the middle disc already has a disc inserted, but the third disc is missing an axle. We've found our first task!

Exit out via your entrance, then look at the pile of rocks ahead of you and a bit left. Note the doorway. Swim through it, turn on your flashlight (press left on your D-pad on the Xbox 360), and swim forward. Eventually you'll come to another pedestal with another axle on it. Collect it and return to the discs.

Insert the axle in the third disc, then back up and look at what you have. Each disc has three sections. Each section either represents a closed eye (the line), or an open eye (the circle). You need to make it so the three sections of the central disc display open eyes. This is easy to do. Once you get one in that central disc, go ahead and turn the disc so the eye is at the top. From here, simply turn the side discs until there's an open eye in the central disc.

Swim forward through the revealed hole. Make your way through the jellyfish maze. Look out for the tentacle and swim through the hole. Surface and pull yourself out.

Climb up, then climb the ledges and drop down. Move through the door. Hop in the water, but move up the ramp. Climb the next ramp, then climb the stone block. Jump up to the ledge on your right and shimmy around the corner. Continue to shimmy right. At the dead end, jump up, then shimmy around the corner to the right. Jump to the pole, swing, jump to the next ledge. Shimmy, then drop down to the ground. You'll find yourself on the opposite side of the ramp pool.

Climb the stairs and you'll find a lever. Look up and right and you'll find a grapple point. Noted. To the right and to the left of the pressure platform you will find a pressure pad. Between the pads (in front of the lever platform) are two square blocks. Pick up each one and place them on the left pad. Go over to the right pad until you are beneath the grapple hook (the "Grapple" button will appear). Grapple, hit your "Interact" button, then quickly move out of the way. The statue above will fall onto the grapple pad.

With both pressure pads pressured, the door is free to open. Step up to the lever and pull it.

Niefelheim

Move forward and up the two sets of stairs. Climb the rubble at the top, then drop down. Continue up the next set of stairs, then crouch and move under the fallen rock. Drop down into the pit, then crouch and move through the low cave. Climb your way up and out of the next pit and you'll arrive at the foot of another set of stairs. Climb them and move forward.

AHHH! Now that's an octopus!

You are given instructions on how to use your field camera (press "down" on the d-pad). Check out the tentacled monster, then head down the hall to the right. Cross the first pit (fall down then work your way up and out via the ledges), then slide down the ramp into the second pit. Move down the hall to your right and you'll eventually come to a large gear with a tentacle wrapped around it. Grapple the ring, then pull it (your "interact" button, "Y" on the 360). The tentacle will retract. Climb to the top of the room.

Face the gears across the way, then look right. Note the horizontal bar. Slide down the ramp and "Jump" before reaching the bottom to grab the bar. Swing from it to the ledge, then shimmy left. Pull yourself up, the pull the switch. Move across the plate that's extended to you (pulled from the sun platform) and you'll find yourself level with the spiked sun platform.

Jump to the hand (or make your way to it via the arm), then the sun platform. Cross the bridge and enter the next room, where you'll find more gears and another tentacle. Grapple the ring that's to the right of the switch and "interact" with it to pull the gear toward you. Activate the switch, forcing the tentacle to retract and drawing the second plate away from the sun platform. Return to the sun platform.

While stading on the sun platform, look to the switch. To the right of it is a grapple ring. Around the corner from the grapple ring is a ledge. That's the ledge we're going for. So, from the platform, jump to the hand to the right. Move along the arm until you are directly across from the ledge. Jump to it. Jump again to catch the ledge above, then one more time. Shimmy around the corner to the end, then drop down on the platform with the switch. Pull the switch, thus raising the platform and exposing two broken chain links. Both of the broken links are on the platform with you, so shoot each one until they break, putting an end to Mr. Octo.

Either jump in the water below, or choose the more stylish option and use the grapple ring to grapple and climb down. Pull the switch at the bottom to open the door and pass through.

Climb the stairs to the massive gap. Climb the wall on the left to the opposite side. Move up the stairs, then cross the beam. Crawl under the rock, then climb the next set of stairs. You'll come to a cutscene.

The Norse Connection

Climb the pole to your right and jump through the hole. Drop down to the ground, then place the two blocks on the pressure plate, thus opening the door. Stand on the pressure plate with the blocks and toss each one through the door (Right-bumper on the Xbox 360). Once they're both on the opposite side, quickly move under the door before it closes.

Place the two blocks on the pressure plate at the base of the right pillar, then stand on the left pillar and grapple the ring on the door. Doing so will bring the door down. Enter for Thor's Glove, and another cutscene.

So, you're trapped. This certainly isn't the first time...but you do need to get back to your boat. Return to the room with the pillars and move through the door to the right. Climb the block to the door above and move through the tunnel to the room with the poles. Jump on the first pole to your right, climb it, then jump backwards to the hanging pole. Climb to the ledge above.

From here, jump to the top of the pillar, then to the pole, then to the ledge. Jump to the next pole, then jump backwards to the pillar. Hit the next pillar, then jump to safety. Phew!

Move down the hall and crawl through the low cave. Move down the hall and you'll find yourself high above the Octopuss room. You'll be shown an enemy diver. Grr.

Move right and use the grapple ring to swing across the gap. Climb the rock structure to the top, then use the bar to reach the platform. Run to the far end, then slide down the ramp. Enter the tunnel then fall down to the area below. Behind you will be a pit, to your right will be the large open area, to your left will be a hall. Move down that hall.

Head down the stairs, then carefully work your way down into the pit. Jump up to the low tunnel and climb through it. Climb out of the next pit, crawl, and move down the next set of stairs. Climb over the rocks and continue down.

Eventually you'll come to the room with the water pit. Hop in so you can reach the door and move through it. Climb over the rocks, exit the door, hop into the water. Dive, swim through the hole, then swim along the jellyfish tunnel until you exit out the three disc opening. Exit the rock tower and surface. Swim to your boat. Cutscene.

God of Thunder

So it's time to kick some butt and take some names. Hop onto the anchor and climb the chain. Climb onto the ship, collect the health, then look to the cargo containers to your left. You will soon be climbing these, but, first, you must eliminate the three men protecting them. There is no trick to this, other than doing your best to take them on one at a time (you don't want two men shooting at you while you fight one). Either hit the men with melee attacks (my preference), or shoot them. Your choice.

When all is clear, find the single stacked blue container (near the front) and climb on top of it. Climb the red container above it, then jump back, jump right, then jump to the triple stacked blue container. From here, jump forward, then up to the next set of triple stacks. Pull yourself up and take out the enemy. Jump to the upper deck, collect the health.

Make your way down either the right or left side, shooting as you go. You'll have to take out about eight men, so, if you find yourself low on health, then, by all means, fill up (on the Xbox 360, press "Up" on the D-Pad). Fight your way down to the helicopters, where there will be two more men. Take them out. Move down either set of stairs to the lowest level, and eliminate the four men here (they're tougher, but still easy).

Move through the door, take out the enemy, move down the stairs. Pop the two men in the control room. Move down the stairs and onto the catwalk. Cutscene.

Continue forward and down the stairs. At the fork, move up the left set of stairs for another cutscene....seems that you're going to the west coast of Thailand...but not quite yet.

Realm of the Dead

It's time to run. Backtrack out of the ship, sprinting as necessary ("LB" on the Xbox 360). Dodge fiery obstacles that come your way. At one point the ship will turn. Continue forward to the dead end, then use the beams and ladders along the left wall to climb out. Climb up to the beam at the top (left side), then move down the next hall to the next ladder. Climb it, then climb the pipe valves to the top. Move left. Shimmy until you're above the beam, then carefull walk across it. Jump and pull yourself up and out of the exit. Cutscene.
