Main objective - Find the ancient stone dais

After an introductory cutscene, you'll be dropped into this first mission, where you'll find yourself high up on some jungle cliffs. Begin by running up to the gap, where you'll be taught how to jump. Simply hitting the "Jump" button will cause you to jump straight up. Since you want to jump across the gap, use the control stick (or directional key) and push it in the direction you want to jump (if you're running and hit "Jump", this will happen naturally. Hold "Jump" for more distance or height.

Once across the gap, hang a left, move past the large boulder, and make your way down to the swimming hole below. Fall in and swim across to the other side. You'll automatically pull yourself up. Press yourself up against the cliff wall and hit "Jump". You'll automatically grab onto the above cliff (a huge improvement of Angel of Darkness by the way). As you're hanging, hit "Jump" again to pull yourself up (if you're prompted with another button, hit it quickly, or you'll fall).

Here you'll be taught how to call up your PDA. Hit the designated button ("Select" on consoles) and check it out. You'll find a list of Objectives, Data, and Gear. Exit and approach the boulder in front of you. Follow the on-screen instructions to grab ("Interact" button) and move the boulder. Push it off the cliff, then jump the gap. Here you'll get a Checkpoint.

Approach the vine to your right and you'll automatically grab on. Climb straight up, point your control stick right and "Jump" to the vine to your right. Slide down a bit, then jump over to the right cliff. Run forward for a Checkpoint.

Between you and the waterfall is a hanging vine. "Jump" to it and you'll automatically grab on. Use the control stick to swing the vine, then jump through the waterfall to the cave behind it. Follow the on screen instructions to turn on your Personal Light (arrows mean a direction on your D-Pad). Move through the cave to the end. Jump to the next cliff and pull yourself up. Face the wall to your left and jump straight up. You'll automatically catch the ledge above. Shimmy left (hit your "Interact" button in rhythm with your movements to move faster) to the end of the ledge. You'll find yourself with your back to the next cliff you must reach. Simply press your control stick in the direction you want to jump and jump. Pull yourself up. Checkpoint.

Run up the flowing river and you'll feel a vibration. Continue forward, but stick to the right wall. A large Indiana Jones style boulder will roll right past you. Move through the open hole, then up the flat rock along the right side. Jump up to the horizontal poll. Shimmy left, then swing (control stick) and jump to the next poll (again, if a button prompt appears, that means you landed with a one handed grab...hit the button before you fall). From here, swing and jump straight forward again. You'll catch the ledge to the left of the waterfall. Aim your control stick right, watch Lara's movements, then, when she thrusts herself right, hit "Jump" and you'll jump across the waterfall and catch the ledge on the right side. Here you'll get a quick cutscene...someone else is in the area.

After the cutscene you'll be taught how to shoot people. Aim with "Combat Lock". When the reticle turns red, hold "Shoot" until the enemy goes down. Move over the area where you killed him to automatically pick up his ammo. Turn the corner and you'll be taught how to use your binoculars. Press the indicated button (again, arrows on consoles suggest a direction on your D-pad), then activate R.A.D. mode with the indicated button. Next, play with the zoom buttons. When you're comfortable with the binoculars, take a look at the fallen tree trunk to the right of the rock. When you focus on it, the R.A.D.-enabled binoculars will scan it and tell you it's a mechanism. Noted. (By the way the symbols at the bottom of the binoculars break down like this, from left to right: Chemically unstable (will blow up), Technical (part of machinery), Movable (can be moved somehow), Physicall Unstable (you can break it). Put away the binoculars by hitting the same button you used to bring them up.

Move up the rock next to the fallen tree, then turn around and notice the trunk expands as it approaches a cliff with vines hanging from it. Run up the length of the trunk and jump. If you moved fast enough, you should be able to catch that cliff. If you took too long, your weight will have caused the trunk to teeter down, making it impossible to catch it. If this happens, try again and move faster. Once you catch it, pull yourself up.

Next, move to the backside of the boulder, grab onto it, and push it onto the trunk from which you just jumped. This will raise the front end, and expose to you a functional branch. Return to the rock in the middle of the river and jump onto the new horizontal branch in front of you. Whip around the branch and jump onto the rock in the middle of the waterfall. Checkpoint.

Run up the river and note the shimmering circular plate in front of you. Hit the "Grapple" button to latch onto it, then hit "Interact" to pull it out. Hit "Grapple" again to detach. Move through the new hole. Here you'll find a couple of new enemies. "Aim" and "Shoot" and the first guy, then, if you're playing on a console, flick your right control stick in the direction of the next enemy to aim at him. Shoot until he's dead. Run over the spots where they fell to pick up anything they might have dropped. If there's a Health Pack there, go ahead and use your own Health (up on d-pad), then collect it (now you know how to make use of Health Packs).

Move up the dark rock leading to the waterfall, then jump and catch the ledge of the structure behind the waterfall. Shimmy left and the ledge will break (although, if you move fast, you'll cross before it breaks). Jump up again, then jump the new gap to the small piece of ledge left over on the left side. Jump backwards and catch the horizontal bar. Swing and catch the ledge on the pillar, then shimmy around the corner. When Lara refuses to shimmy any farther, jump over to the ledge beneath the cliff. Hit "Jump" again to catch the above ledge, then pull yourself up to the top of it. Make a U-turn and jump to the hanging vine. As you're swinging, note the shining object in an alcove to your left. Jump straight from the vine and you'll land safely on the structure behind the waterfall. Turn around and jump to the horizontal poles and swing your way to the next path. Checkpoint.

In front of you is an enemy. Aim and kill him. Move around the corner and approach the gap. A button icon will appear at the top of your screen. This indicates a grapple point above you. Look at where it is, then make a running jump toward it. Hit "Jump" again to catch the grapple point, swing, then hit "Jump" one more time to disconnect from the grapple point and land safely on the path. Move up the stairs then through the structure to your right. At the end of the path you'll spot some ruins...and some competition. Checkpoint.

After the cutscene you'll spot a button icon in front of you. This identifies a shootable object. Go into aim mode, and you'll automatically aim at a person below you. Don't worry about that. Instead, hit the indicated button and you'll shoot the rock. Keep shooting until it falls, hopefully taking out an enemy or two in the process. Remain in Lock-on/Aim mode and slide down the cliff in front of you. Shoot the man at the bottom as soon as your reticle turns red. When you reach the bottom, look left, as a couple more enemies will appear. Take them both out.

When all men in the immediate area are out of commission, use health, if necessary, then collect the dropped items of the fallen enemies. Move up the path to the right of the slide, and kill the man who rolls from the right. Watch as his weapon (SMG) flies from his hands. Walk over to the SMG and hit "Interact" to collect it.

Move to the edge. You'll be tempted to jump to the hanging vine. Don't. Instead, jump down to the ground beneath you and move right. At the ruins look up and left. Kill the guard (if you see him), then remain in "Aim" mode until you see the shootable object button icon appear at the top of the pillar past the bridge. Hit the button to shoot the rocks, and they'll fall, hopefully taking out an enemy or two with them. Return to the cliff from which you jumped down into this area. Pull yourself up, then jump to the vine. Swing to the opposite side (if you need to pull yourself higher on the rope, hit "Interact" then climb) and slide down the cliff. Look right, aim, and start shooting. From this position you should be able to take down two men. Cross the little bridge then eliminate the two men by the Jeep to your right. Use your Health, if necessary, and swap out the SMG for the dropped Assault Rifle (it doesn't matter what is armed as you swap, as you'll always keep your pistols). Run up the stairs of the ruins. After a cutscene, enter the ruins. Checkpoint.

Walk down the hall in front of you. Walk slowly as the floor will open up in front of you, revealing a spiked pit. Look up and note the grapple point. "Jump", hit "Jump" again to connect to the grapple point, swing to get the momentum necessary to reach the other side, then release from the grapple by hitting "Jump" again. Continue forward and you'll reach a room of chains. Climb the one without the weight at its base. When you hit the circular ball, jump to the chain across the way and climb it. Once you clear the ball, return to the original chain, then jump into the opening. Move through it and you'll spot another chain. Jump to it and slide down. Run down the hall to the swimming hole. Checkpoint.

Fall into the pool and you'll be told what button to hit (and hold) to dive. Press it and move straight down. As long as you hold that button, you'll continue moving down. Release it and you'll stop sinking. Next, you'll be shown what button to hit to swim to the surface (should be the "Jump" button). Hit and hold it to get some air, and keep this button in mind, as you'll always have to keep an eye on your air meter when underwater.

With your back to the pool entrance, dive again and look right (if you have a dark screen, your Personal Light may help you). To your right you'll spot a tunnel. Swim through it (remember to let go of the "Dive" button once you've reached the necessary depth, then use your control stick to guide you forward). Once through the tunnel you'll come to some sunken ruins and an open pool above you. Swim up for some air and pull yourself up to the platform. From the ledge, face the pool again.

Looking down at the pool from this position, the tunnel through which you just swam is in front of you and to your left. You, now, must swim through the tunnel in front of you and to your right. Dive in and swim through it. Surface when you come to a dead end, and climb up to the ledge. Checkpoint.

Move down the stairs and kill the jaguar who charges you. Continue forward and down the stairs. Watch the walls, as they'll close in on you at the bottom of the stairs. Wait for them to close completely, then move through them as they're resetting. Turn the corner and you'll see two more sets of closing walls. You can't make it through this set without a little help. This help comes in the form of the crate in the corner. Grab the crate with "Interact", then push it in front of you as you move between the walls. When you clear them, release the crate and move up the stairs into the first big puzzle room. Checkpoint.

Remain in place and equip your goggles, then turn on the R.A.D. function. Notice a few items are "pulsing" under the R.A.D. view. This means they are functional pieces of the puzzle. High and in front of you is the door you want to open. To your left and right are the gears for that door, which are currently blocked. On the ground around you are three pressure pads, and one crate. In the water pit area in front of you are two more crates and a teeter-totter mechanism. Noted. Let's get to work.

First, grab the crate to your right and place it on top of the pad closest to it. This will free up the right gear. Next, hop down into the water pit and push the crate out from beneath the raised side of the teeter-totter (watch out for the jaguar as you do this, and kill it when it approaches). This will cause the teeter-totter to tilt in the other direction. Take the crate and scoot it on that down tilted side. The crate won't sit wholly on the teeter-totter, but, as long as you can get it partially on, you're OK. Next, climb out of the water pit and move down the central runway. Climb the few stairs at the end. From this position, jump onto the raised portion of the teeter-totter. Your weight will cause the crate on the opposite end to fly up and out of the water pit. Grab it and push it over the square pad on the left side of the room. This will free up the left gear. Repeat with the final crate, which is also found in the water pit. Place it on the square pressure pad in the middle of the runway. When all three crates are in position, the door will open...now you just have to reach it.

From your original entrance, with your back to the entrance, go right and you'll spot a chain. At the chain, look up and right. Here is an alcove. Jump up to it and collect the reward. Next, move across the room to the opposite chain. Climb it to the top, then jump at the structure surrounding the left gear. You'll catch a ledge at the top. Shimmy around, toward the gear. At the gate, "Jump" and catch the above ledge. Pull yourself up to it and move across the chain. Drop down ("Crouch/Roll" button), then approach the ledge. Hit the same button to fall down and catch the ledge. Hit it again to drop down again. Shimmy right, then jump to the horizontal bar. Swing to the ledge and move through the door. Checkpoint.

Watch the interactive cutscene and hit the prompted buttons as they appear. If you miss, you'll die. When you clear the death trap area, run down the hall for another Checkpoint.

Continue down the hall and drop off the ledge. Shimmy right and drop down. Continue to drop until you safely reach the ground. Kill the jaguar then move up the mound to your right and take position on the concrete square. Face the spiked mechanism next to you so you're also facing the tunnel opening, for which you're ultimately aiming. Hop onto the horizontal poll and you'll move the mechanism counterclockwise. Jump to the poll in front of you, which will cause the central mechanism to spin, then jump to the final mechanism. After it's done spinning you'll end up facing a wall. Jump to it and catch the ledge. Shimmy right. Jump the gap, then shimmy right. Jump up and catch the ledge above you. Shimmy right, catch the ledge, shimmy right again, catch the ledge. At the top, shimmy left, jump the gap, then shimmy around the corner. Jump down then run forward and pull yourself up to the above level. Turn the corner and make your way down the hall, jumping the stones in your pathway. Checkpoint.

Continue moving down the hall and you'll come to a cutscene. As soon as it ends you'll find yourself on the suspension bridge with the helicopter shooting at you. Please note, if you die, you can go into your pause menu to "Skip Cinematic", if you so desire. However, the goal is for you not to die. When you get control of Lara immediately run across the bridge. Jump the gap, then make a running jump for the cliff's ledge. Pull yourself up, then shoot at the men to your right. Checkpoint.

Take cover behind the statue structures and kill the men who come at you. Watch you health meter and refill accordingly. Also, continue to run over the enemy's dropped guns, to refill your ammo, as it's much easier to kill these guys with your Assault Rifle than with your Pistols. Once you've killed the all the enemies you'll complete the level.
