Nintendo has just made your Monday better! That's right, the Mario factory has flipped its magic switch and WiiWare is knocking on your console's door, begging to be downloaded (the flashing blue light indicates a knock).
For those not familiar with WiiWare, think of it as an online store (accessed via your Wii), from which you can buy and download games. It differs from the Wii Virtual Console in that a) these games are new titles, and b) many are from talented indie developers and publishers who don't have the money to go through traditional channels to get their games in your hands (of course, many come from power house developers, too). It's a good day to be a gamer!
CNN's Glenn Beck is receiving quite a bit of negative feedback for his factually challenged report the other day on "Grand Theft Morality". Instead of taking the criticism seriously, he opted to personally attack those who dared challenge him:
I will tell you that all these video gamers… they’re bloggers, as well as video gamers - they’re writing all kinds of stuff about me [that] I’m the enemy now of video gamers. I could care less about video games. Video game bloggers? They’re losers…
It seems Yahtzee received a wee bit of negative feedback for his Super Smash Bros. Brawl review. So, instead of reviewing a game this week, he's opted to review you, the viewer. Super bonus, it includes one of the funnier GameSpot digs I've ever heard.
For the record, it is my opinion that gamers are split into two groups: Those who love Super Smash Bros. and those who don't. I, along with Yahtzee, fall into the latter group, and I thank him for both his review of the game and his response to those who can't handle the criticism.
For those of you who can't wait for the June 3rd release of The Bourne Conspiracy (PS3, Xbox 360), you can wet your whistle today by hopping on Xbox Live and downloading the playable demo.
Prefer a PS3 demo? You'll have to wait until Thursday for your Bourne adventure.
I'm currently working on the Pigeons section, and will be adding to it all day. If anybody knows where to find the pigeon on the west side of East Borough Bridge, let me know in the comments as it's driving me crazy, crazy I tell you!
On last night's Glenn Beck, Beck thoughtfully dissects the morality of "Grand Theft Auto". Oh wait. No he didn't.
Instead, Beck ran a clinic on how to be a misinformed idiot who pulled the good ol' "sex with prostitutes and then kill them with a baseball bat" line out of the GTA-bashing repository that, apparently, all TV pundits visit.
What always amazes me with these people is that the things that they say are in the game, are really things that they'd want to do in the game if they ever played it. You know that if Glenn Beck ever sat down with this game the first thing he'd do is find a prostitute and then murder her.

Well, this should be entertaining. Jack Thompson, the self-proclaimed crusader against video game violence, will be appearing on "The Glenn Beck Show" this evening. Glenn Beck, of course, is the self-proclaimed crusader against Katrina victims, 9-11 families, and, well, thinking human beings.

The first Silent Hill set to be released on the Xbox 360 and PS3 has both a name and a release month.
Silent Hill: Homecoming is the title chosen for the fifth installment of the creeptastic series, and September is the release month...in Europe. No other release dates have been provided for other regions. My money says those of us in North America will see the game appear mid to late October, just in time for Halloween.
For details of the game, and the poor fool who wanders into Silent Hill this time around, please go here.
The Chicago Transit Authority has chosen to pull Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto IV advertising campaign from the sides of its buses. According to the report from the Fox affiliate in Chicago, the decision came after a particularly violent weekend in the Windy City, where 15 people were shot, and six were killed, due to gang activity.
All I can say is, I hope the city is doing more to squelch the violence than removing these ads, which may be in bad taste, but certainly aren't causing anyone to kill.
