According to Gamesindustry.biz, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata continues to believe online gaming is not in great demand and is, therefore, not of utmost importance to the gaming industry. Iwata, who recently explained his theories on online gaming at the Japan Economic Foundation, cited sales figures which he said "proves" online gaming is not an important factor.
While I agree with Iwata that most customers don't want to pay extra money for online play and internet connections still aren't easy enough for some customers, I don't like that he used a PS2 golf title to prove these games aren't selling...particularly when that golf title wasn't a "Tiger Woods PGA Tour" title. If Nintendo wants to stay out of the online gaming market, that's fine. However, there's no need to mislead people about the success (not to mention the tremendous amount of fun) of it.
