Shortages of PS2s to be Relieved by Air Freight

A world-wide shortage of the new slim PS2s has retailers quivering in their boots and holiday shoppers biting their fingernails as one of the hottest products is rather scarce. Desperate times call for desperate measures and it is therefore that Sony will be
using air freight (
Europe) to ship the consoles directly from their factories in China to NA and Europe. According to the article, the high cost of shipping will cut in half the margin Sony makes on the PS2. In addition, even though this air lift will help, it won't ease all the shortfalls. In an interesting side bit, part of the reason for the shortages in Europe is that a Russian oil tanker ran aground in the Suez canal causing a major backup. One of the backed up ships is loaded with PS2 for Europe.
