Men Spend More on Games than Music
Friday - April 08, 2005
Nielson Entertainment group
reported yesterday that men spend more money on video games than they do on all forms of music. It also reported that nearly one quarter of all gamers are over 40 years old. DVD sales still trump video games, but that will soon fall as well. The report doesn't point out that the average video game costs $50 while a music download is $.99 and a CD around $15. I wonder if music sales have dropped, leading to video games winning out, or if music sales have stayed steady or even gone up and video game sales have simply become all the more popular. Another interesting stat from the article is that 23% of gamers own a PC, a console, and a handheld while only 8% own all three consoles (that's me!).
