ESRB Investigates "GTA: SA" Sex Minigames

Soon after last month's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas PC release, a mod was made available which allowed gamers who installed it access to various X-rated minigames within GTA:SA. Last week California assemblyman Leland Yee (D-San Francisco), who is known for his desire for legislation banning the sale of violent video games to minors, caught wind of this mod and demanded the game be rated AO (adults only). Yee's scornful words have now prompted the ESRB to investigate the matter. According to Gamespot, the ESRB investigation "will examine whether or not the mod unlocks pre-existing code, as appears to be the case, or is actually a purely third-party creation". If this is pre-existing code, the ESRB will take appropriate action and I, for once, will agree with Yee. Slipping X-rated code into a game without warning people of this code is really a sleezy move. It also undermines the hard work of the ESRB and those who believe video games are a form of art and, therefore, are fighting for first amendment protections. Actions like this only hurt the video game industry.
