Update: A Stealth Launch for a Backlit GBA SP?

Update: A Stealth Launch for a Backlit GBA SP?

Tags: GameCube

Wednesday - September 21, 2005
Joystiq is reporting on a flurry of GBA rumors today, which suggest Nintendo has stealthily launched a backlit GBA SP, with a screen that is actually brighter than the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP. As rumor has it, "the old on/off side-lighting button has been replaced with a button that now toggles between two (backlit) brightness levels." It has also been said that new backlit GBA SP is only available in Graphite and Pearl Blue. NintendoGal has some pictures of the new GBA SP, while the gang over at Gaming-Age Forum claim the rumors are true. Why the stealth launch? Perhaps to not steal the GBA Micro thunder, which just launched on Monday.
I'll be going to my local EB later today, and I'll find out what they know. Until I see it for myself, or Nintendo puts out a press release, I have to leave it in the rumor category...for now.
Update: We have confirmation from our local EB. It's not in yet, but expect it in the next couple of days!!!
