"The O.C." The Game

"The O.C." The Game

I tried not to write about this. I saw the story break yesterday, it gave me a giggle, then I opted to ignore it. After all, it's a mobile phone game, and Lunabean doesn't do mobile phone games. However, as an "O.C." fan (hey, I'm part of the "90210" generation...I need these shows to feel normal), I have to quickly say something about it as others who are writing about the game clearly don't watch the show, and I wonder if Gameloft, the game's publisher, even has.
According to the press release writers seem to be picking from, "Gameplay will be akin to The Sims, with players aiming to make their characters fit in the OC world, date the right people and move in the right social circles." I'm sorry, but was Marissa trying to "date the right people" when she went temporarily gay? Was Summer trying to move into the "right social circle" when she opted for the geeky Seth Cohen? And what about Ryan? He knows he's not going to gain popularity by punching every single person who gets in his way, but he does it anyway. OH, and let's not forget about the creepy Jerri Ryan character who, you know, is going to come after Kirsten for leaving her alone at her creepy alcoholic retreat cabin.
Point being, the show is about so much more than social circles and popularity, and I just can't stand it being treated as such...is that weird? :)
