Microsoft Targets the Ladies with Xbox 360

The New York Times has today published A Game Console for the Rest of Us (subscription required), a very interesting article about how Microsoft hopes to go more mainstream with the Xbox 360, and, in doing so, is making a concerted effort to attract the ladies to the new console. The effort seems to be two-fold. First, they're aiming for female gamers by making more games which appeal to women (Kameo is used as an example in the article). Second, they're appealing to moms and wives by hitting hard the multi-function aspect of the console (MP3 player, DVD player, photo displayer), even going so far as to include in the Xbox 360 brochure a, "Here are some things you might want to tell your wife this thing does" tutorial.
