Best Buy and Wal-Mart Xbox 360 Update

Joystiq is today reporting their reliable and anonymous Wal-Mart source says, "the world's largest retailer is stockpiling Xbox 360s for their first ad of the new year". The source claims his store actually has the Xbox 360 consoles ready to go in the back room, but the higher ups are forcing the stores to hold back until that first ad goes out, presumably on the 1st or 2nd of January.

In Best Buy news, an industry flyer (which looks quite legit) has been circulating on many forums stating Best Buy stores are expecting consoles to arrive this week. Granted, it is Friday, but, according to the flyer, if stores receive them today, they can't sell them until tomorrow, which means people who want an Xbox 360 for Xmas potentially have one last shot at getting one. But call your Best Buy store before making the journey, as the shot really is a narrow one.

While the vast majority of those who want Xbox 360s won't be getting one this Christmas, it does look like they're starting to trickle into retail stores. I know our Circuit City received three this week, and we finally got the one we reserved from EB last June (which will make my father happy for the holiday). Online retailers, like Target.com, Circuitcity.com, Gamestop.com, and Toysrus.com (Amazon) have each successfully sold out of high priced bundles within hours of putting them up this week. Point being, they had them to put up this week. So, while Santa may not leave you an Xbox 360 under the tree, there is hope to be had, and isn't that what Christmas is all about (kind of)?
