Thanks to BoingBoing.net for pointing out this truly unique form of punishing players who "misbehave" in the online role-playing game Roma Victor for the PC. According to the Roma Victor site, "Crucifixion is to be used as a form of player 'ban' within the virtual world of Roma Victor, with the length of the ban reflecting the severity of the punishment. For cheating by exploiting a bug and advancing his or her character's skills unfairly, for example, a player might typically receive a seven-day ban; multiple or more serious offences will result in a longer (or even permanent) ban."

An unlucky gamer by the name of Cynewulf has been the first to receive the punishment, and is currently hanging on a cross for public display in the digital reconstruction of the provincial town of Corstopitum.

If only we could use this form of punishment for those who misbehave on the Lunaboards. Ah well.

Check the Roma Victor site for pics.
