Thanks to Matthew Sakey of the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) for his thought provoking article entitled "Culture Clash". In the article, Sakey seriously examines the irony behind many religious groups' condemnation of violence in video games while telling people to see "The Passion of the Christ" (often telling people to go twice), a movie which is more violent than any video game on the market.
Sakey does an excellent job as he understands the importance of context. The Bible is violent, but there is purpose behind the violence, which leads to a greater good. However, the question he begs deserves contemplation, and that questions is: "Do people oppose game violence because they oppose violence, or because they oppose games?".
