EMI Sues EA Over Video Game Music

EMI Group has filed a federal lawsuit against the world's largest video game publisher, Electronic Arts, over claims of copyright infringement in a number of EA's most recent sports titles, including "MVP Baseball 2004", "Madden NFL 2004," and "Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004".

EA said in a statement, "This entire lawsuit is related to a single song that samples lyrics from another song. Our use of that song was licensed directly from the artist. We have agreements for every song used in our games."

EMI claimed in the suit filed yesterday that EA sought from EMI licenses for the use of certain songs, but went ahead and released the games before the licenses were granted.
