for pointing out even more disappointing news in the gaming realm today (the first, of course, being the potential of a $500 PS3, below). An article from the UK's The Register
claims that sources close to the company are now saying Microsoft's Xbox 2 console will not be backwardly compatible with the current version. In other words, the Xbox 2 will not play Xbox 1 games. Backwards compatibility was an Xbox 2 feature touted early on, as the PS2's backwards compatibility was, arguably, crucial to the console's success.
