Recently, a small number of XboxLIVE users received an email saying that because their Gamertag was extremely similar to another user's Gamertag that they would have to change said Gamertag, or their account would be suspended in 10 days. To compensate for this inconvenience and/or loss of identity, MS will send a copy of
PGR2, Top Spin, or Links 2004 in addition to a year of XboxLIVE (yet to be confirmed). MS claims that they need to get their data in order, not that they are not running out of Gamertags. This has lead some to speculate that EA Games recent acceptance of XboxLIVE is the cause for the changes. Many users are upset, as they have had their Gamertags since beta testing over 2 years ago. I put in an email to the press department at Xbox. I'll update you with any "official" information if I receive any.
