Family Sues Rockstar Games

We told you last week of the horrific murder of a 14 year old British boy who was beaten and stabbed to death by a 17 year old who was allegedly "obsessed" with Rockstar's game "Manhunt", and used the 14 year old to recreate a murder from the game. Last week the victim's family was asking retailers to pull the game from store shelves. This week, the victim's family has hired a US lawyer and is filing suit against Rockstar for making the game, and Sony for making a console on which the game was played.

The US lawyer they hired was Miami's own Jack Thompson, of Stopkill.com. Thompson is the man behind every major US lawsuit concerning violence and video games and has made his services available for parents who believe their kids are addicted to video games.

What happened was a tragedy, and, in all honesty, "Manhunt" is an icky game, but nothing will be resolved by these lawsuits. The obsession with "Manhunt" should have been an indicator of something being wrong with the 17 year old. A healthy person doesn't find a game, and then start killing...and any good lawyer knows that.
