According to
many sources Sony has revealed they will be using the new Blu-Ray disc format for use with their third gaming console, presumably named the Playstation 3. Blue-Ray discs are read with a special blue laser and can hold up to five times more data than current DVD discs of the same size. The Blu-Ray specification also allows for reading existing DVDs, meaning the PS3 should be able to play standard DVD movies and PS2 games.
