Halo 2: Raking in the Big Bucks

"In the first 24 hours we'll have an opening that's (more) popular than any motion picture has ever had in history," Bill Gates told Microsoft shareholders at a meeting yesterday. Peter Moore, a corporate vice president in Microsoft's games division, deemed yesterday a "$100 million day on Halo". Of course, the numbers aren't quite tallied yet, but according to Wired's "Halo 2 Rakes in $100 Million" article the numbers will add up. The midnight launch at about 7000 stores nationwide certainly helped, as "one retailer sold 8,500 units in the first 11 minutes of sales, while another sold 200,000 units by daybreak Tuesday."
