Sony's handheld gaming and entertainment system, the PSP, is set to launch in the US on March 24. The PSP uses a proprietary 1.8GB disc dubbed UMD (Universal Media Disc) which can hold games, movies, music, etc. Sony has announced the first five movies to be released about a month after the PSP launches:
XXX,
Hellboy,
Resident Evil 2,
Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and
House of Flying Daggers. The first four movies will retail for $19.95 with the art house
House of Flying Daggers retailing for $28.95. Whether or not people will actually buy these movies is still to be seen. Afterall, unless you can pop your UMD into something other than a PSP, the application seems a bit limited.
