The Chicago Tribune has published a
fantastic article concerning Wednesday's 91-19 House vote in Illinois to ban the sale of violent video games to minors. Why do I call it "fantastic"? Because it deals primarily with the House
debate, which was a lot hotter than the 91-19 vote reflects. For example, Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia almost self-imploded when answering questions about violence against aliens disguised as humans, while Rep. Lou Lang voted for the bill because, "these are disgusting, violent and horrible games", but admitted the bill, as drafted, is "unconstitutional." I say, stop undermining the ESRB, and, instead, back them up and aid in the education of parents about video game violence. That way, we can prevent the sale of such games to minors, without touching their 1st Amendment rights.
