There is some moving and shaking going on in the video game business world. First, we have the on going saga of Eidos (
Tomb Raider, Hitman, Thief, Deus Ex) and the
ensuing bidding war between Elevation Partners (a venture capital firm with Bono on the board) and SCi, the British developer most famous for the
Conflict series. SCi is correct in thinking that the Eidos brand name is undervalued. I don't care who buys Eidos, I just want new
Thief and
Deus Ex games. Second, we have the
purchase of Radical Entertainment (
The Simpsons: Road Rage) by huge mega-conglomeration Vivendi Universal. This one won't affect the average gamer too much but is yet another sign of the times...mergers galore!
