Sony has a new idea: to become the iTunes of movie downloads. And what better device to play your movies on than a PSP? At least that's the thinking behind
Sony's move to digitize 500 movies by next year. The movies would be available for download at
MovieLink. They also plan to put the movies on flash memory cards (my guess is a MemoryStick) for mobile phones and, one would guess, the PSP. The problem, of course, is that there is a long tradition of mobile music, popularized by Sony's Walkman, ironically, but no such tradition of mobile movies. Movies are meant to be played on a large screen and are often 1-3 hours long. I just don't get the attraction to watch movies on a mobile device. Music I understand...quick downloads, high quality, the ability to carry 5,000 songs with you, etc. I think Sony doesn't know what it's doing anymore.
