is today reporting a California bill that sought to ban the sale of violent video games to children under the age of 17 failed to clear committee yesterday, falling one vote shy of what is necessary to pass such a bill. Stating the obvious was the bill's author, Assemblyman Leland Yee, who said, "We should not allow kids, on their own, to go into a store and purchase those kinds of ultra-violent video games". Too bad such an elected leader can't figure out a way to do such a thing without going down the slippery slope of censorship.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if we could get our government to work with the ESRB instead of against it, we could get a kick ass public service campaign going that would demonize anyone caught selling such games to minors to a point where this situation would take care of itself, without taking away the First Amendment Rights of our minors. Sheesh.
